Re: Better source for luggage rack?

I ordered the rear rack, not the side case racks. They e-mailed me
back that they wouldn't be charging the extra hundred bucks. So it's $178 total, with no idea how long it will take to get it. What is the story on the photo at the top of the Wriders web page of a photo of your old "W" in what appears to be an art museum? If this has already been explained, I somehow managed to miss it. I can only speak for what I found while riding a Majesty until 12 months ago. I now own and thoroughly enjoy my W which in my mind is what a motorcycle should be like.
I also rode motorcycles of all shapes and descriptions in the 60's and even had a BSA Sunbeam scooter for a while, but only as a means of getting about. If you had read the link that went before, you would see that I was explaining to Laura (who is using a scooter while her W is in for repair after a prang) what to expect on a scooter as she has not ridden one before.

The only things to watch out for are that a scooter will NOT handle the same as a motorcycle, and you will not have the same engine braking effect when going into bends due to the automatic drive. The instructions will probably tell you that you need to hold the front brake on while pressing the starter otherwise the thing will not work. The reason for this being that if you happened to have the throttle open while pressing the starter, you would take off at a rapid rate to the horizon. Also the starter motor will not work at all if the side stand is down. Sometimes you will probably notice the machine will creep forward on tickover while at lights/crossroads etc as you can never disengage the drive. thoughts on a loud snapping sound when starting the engine

In the past, I've read where others, including myself, have experienced
a loud snapping sound, like an electrical arcing, just after the engine was started. When checking my valve clearances a few months back, I discovered both of my spark plugs were little more than hand-tight from the factory. Fortunately, even after 7500 miles, the threads looked fine and there were no signs of leakage or damage to the threads. At 1st, I thought maybe it was just a coincidence. But, after approximately 5 yrs. of snapping, almost every time I fired-up the engine cold, since tightening the plugs, I have yet to hear the infamous snapping or arcing sound. For those of you who are experiencing this phenomenon, if you haven't already done so, you might check your plugs. Jim Hudson |

Trail rear tyres (like Triumph Scrambler) retaining handling (or 17" rim?)

Hi Folks
A long shot, but I could do with some advice! Having bought my W on 7yr old Kaccolade tyres, and cutting down mudgd etc for a more Scrambler look, I fitted Trail Wing tyres: on the front, the same one as the new Bonnie Scrambler, but limited choice at the back due to 18" rim. Chose a TW 302 (130/80 18MC 66S rated). Looks brilliant - very very knobbly indeed! Spent last summer playing in Germany, Cz, Slovalia, Poland, Netherlands, and also at home in Scotland. Handling great compared to knackered OE tyres. But I've been cautious with big leans, and think it could poss be better. I'd like a more road oriented tyre, but keep a trailie look if I can (eg sort of thing fitted to BMW trailies). But 18" is a struggle. Only options appear to be TW 302 as present, or Michelin T63 (P rated, 93mph). The T63 looks very knobbly too. Anyone got any experience? If I keep the W for a while (and I've sold my T140, so I prob will), I'm thinking of getting the wheel rebuilt with a 17" rim...lots of tyre choice then! Or is that a bit extreme? That sounds encouraging, I hear tales from other bikers of them having to replace tyres every 2 or 3000 miles...but they probably have bikes churning out 3.5 million BHP.

I owned a yamaha Majesty scooter for two years and it was brilliant. The only things to watch out for are that a scooter will NOT handle the same as a motorcycle, and you will not have the same engine braking effect when going into bends due to the automatic drive. I think I fried something. I tried a 30amp fuse in the taillight
section thinking it would help somehow, I AM AN IDIOT. Nothing works now! I replaced and inspected the fuses. Still nothing. Now I am in a bigger mess. Yes, the stock rear signals are normally off (they have two wires) and thus use a different bulb with only one filament; and the front ones have three wires (on all the time) with two filaments in the bulbs. Your current draw would appear to be a bit high due to the change you are introducing. I am not sure of the answer, though. No good at electrics.
