Retro bikes making there way back
=====================
From: James Franklin <jimw650@...> Date: 2007/07/15 Sun AM 07:23:06 CDT To: W650riders@... Subject: RE: [W650riders] Need Help w/ Petition ** I read an article in Motorcyclist Mag recently that said retro bikes in Japan and I think Europe are the latest and greatest things to ride. Each Bike maker has something to offer in this category but not for sale here in the good O'l USA of Mexico and FrArica...the melting pot the call it...ahh humm...but just maybe things would soon be comming but they werent sure? Music Matty The W isn't here anymore because we didn't buy enough of them to make it profitable for Kawasaki to send them to us. If you want to get them here, gather people who want one, get some kind of proof that they will buy one..deposit or something and contact Kawasaki's management here in the US. I know where Honda and Yamaha are..not sure where the Kawasaki one is, but it shouldn't be hard to find.. Many motorcycles, that were great motorcycles, didn't sell well in the USA and weren't brought back. James Franklin 2411 Pine Summit DR. Bill,
Not bad for a dealer price; I just checked royayers.com and they are listed there for 90 bucks apiece. Re: Pipes and Jet Kit - Denver, Colorado
Three things though, first it should be really cheap to get OEM exhausts for your Harley, since no one ever kept them on (slight exageration), there should be tons of OEMs some where.
The second thing is, if you were not making an excessive amount of noise, you probably wouldn't get pulled over and be cited. If I lived in Denver though, I would actively support candidates for city council who would vote to repeal this arbutrary law..arbutrary as it doesn't cover any other type of vehicle..like the Honda Civics with the the loud on purpose pipes, or Tractor Trailers, which are loud in their stock configuration. City council elections are typically not hotly contested, and an organized campaign could change the face of the council. James Franklin 2411 Pine Summit DR. Don't take a left at the light, Jake, you'll end up in Denver.

I've had different opinions locally about whether to drain the carbs over
the winter storage in my unheated garage. Some say in this temperate climate, where it only dips below freezing a few times these days and there's only a week of ice & snow, it's not indicated as it'll only dry out the seals and rubber. Others say despite gas stabilizer, I shouldn't keep old gas and crud in the float bowls and should drain. Comments, anyone? Ruari |

lives", and other folks counter with "No, loud pipes cost rights!"? Guess who was right? As of June 4th, anybody who lives in or rides through Denver, Colorado now have a law specific to motorcycles. Any motorcycle built after 1982 there must have the OEM pipes on it, or it gets a 500 dollar ticket. If your muffler wears out over time or is damaged in a crash, you'd be forced to purchase an exact replacement from the dealership at OEM prices, if they're available at all. The example they totted up was for a 2004 Kaw Mean Streak. It'd be $1,331, plus bolts, hangers, etc. For a 1996 Suzuki Bandit, it'd be $1,206, for a bike that has a resale value under $2000. Worst case is a 1983 Honda V45 Interceptor. The parts you can buy would cost 672 dollars, but two of the headpipes and the left muffler are discontinued. So that bike would be illegal to ride in Denver, throw it on the scrap-pile. Way to go, Denver bikers! I don't think the general public was impressed with the loud bikes, or even intimidated. Matt in Germantown MD My 2000 W650 was running poorly for several months. Engine would break up on light acceleration or when engine/weather was cold. Engine started & idled fine and was good on heavy throttle. The Kawasaki dealer overhauled the carbs. The problem was the diaphram on the vacuum valves. A very expensive repair as the vacuum valves are $105 each. The repair was a success. Don't know what caused deterioration of the diaphrams. Bill Keegan Maryland, USA |
