Don't completely rule out the new Norton, although all bets are

Huge undertaking, and underfunding is always the killer. [The

Back in the 50s, during summer vacation, us kids were allowed to stay up till all hours watching TV.
Back then, for some reason, most of the late night movies were British imports. At least that was true in the San Francisco area.

One movie that I'll never forget was about a man, driving a motorcycle with a sidecar, who kidnaps a young girl so he can get money to help his wife who had some medical problem.

Anyone ever see this movie?

Three things though, first it should be really cheap to get OEM exhausts for
your Harley, since no one ever kept them on (slight exageration), there
should be tons of OEMs some where.

The second thing is, if you were not making an excessive amount of noise,
you probably wouldn't get pulled over and be cited.

If I lived in Denver though, I would actively support candidates for city
council who would vote to repeal this arbutrary law..arbutrary as it doesn't
cover any other type of vehicle..like the Honda Civics with the the loud on
purpose pipes, or Tractor Trailers, which are loud in their stock
configuration. City council elections are typically not hotly contested,
and an organized campaign could change the face of the council.

hmm...Is this a measure just to give Police the power of instant fine should
an excessively loud bike go by, or is it going to be rigorously backed up
with pull-ins and db meters.

1981 Harleys will be worth a bit I expect!

Jon

Don't know. But it does bring to mind something I read today in American
Motorcyclist. You know how some folks say "Loud pipes save
lives", and other folks counter with "No, loud pipes cost rights!"? Guess
who was right? As of June 4th, anybody who lives in or
rides through Denver, Colorado now have a law specific to motorcycles.
Any
motorcycle built after 1982 there must have the OEM pipes
on it, or it gets a 500 dollar ticket. If your muffler wears out over
time
or is damaged in a crash, you'd be forced to purchase an
exact replacement from the dealership at OEM prices, if they're available
at all. The example they totted up was for a 2004 Kaw Mean
Streak. It'd be $1,331, plus bolts, hangers, etc. For a 1996 Suzuki
Bandit, it'd be $1,206, for a bike that has a resale value under
$2000.
Worst case is a 1983 Honda V45 Interceptor. The parts you can buy
would
cost 672 dollars, but two of the headpipes and the left
muffler are discontinued. So that bike would be illegal to ride in
Denver,
throw it on the scrap-pile.
Way to go, Denver bikers!

I don't think the general public was impressed with the loud bikes, or
even intimidated.

Jake

Looking for somewhere or a mft I can get some loud/good sound pipes
for my doubleYeah. Also need a jet kit to go along with it and would
like the pipes to look classic.

Re: Chain tension

Thanks all for the suggestions & links. The front sprocket was just
starting to hook (slightly concave on one side), so I replaced it with
the chain. The bike runs sooo much smoother now - it's like it's
young again.

I ended up getting a DID O-ring because that's all that I could find
locally and I didn't want to wait for mail-order. The dealer markup
was huge ($150 for a 130-link DID-O-ring). That impatience taught me
a lesson, though: order online next time - get what I want at a better
price.

Each Bike maker has something to offer in this category but not for sale here in the good O'l USA of Mexico and FrArica...the melting pot the call it...ahh humm...but just maybe things would soon be comming but they werent sure?

The W isn't here anymore because we didn't buy enough of them to make it
profitable for Kawasaki to send them to us.

If you want to get them here, gather people who want one, get some kind of
proof that they will buy one..deposit or something and contact Kawasaki's
management here in the US. I know where Honda and Yamaha are..not sure
where the Kawasaki one is, but it shouldn't be hard to find..

Many motorcycles, that were great motorcycles, didn't sell well in the USA
and weren't brought back.

They featured a 'half valve lift' system which reduced compression to allow the starting kick, but would still run at idle...

I always fancied a solo model with high roadster gearing..blam...............chuff..............blam..............chuff....etc etc

As I remember they were ideally suited for sidehack service and didn't feel right geometry -wise solo.? Seems like I remember the cylinder head had the stering head mounted on it.? It WAS the front downtube.? 85 mph uphill, downhill, and off a cliff.? Pretty tho.???? Cheers? ?Keith Williams

If anyone is wondering, the bike is a late '50's or early '60's Panther 500cc or 600cc single known by many as 'Slopers'. They were built in Cleckeaton in Yorkshire and basically stayed the same from about 1920 until the mid '60's. Not the fastest motorcycle ever made but?epitomised the 'one beat per lamp-post' slow revving Brit single...

I nearly bought a combo like this aged 16 ( there were no engine capacity restrictions if a chair was attached) but got a Puch ( Sears Allstate) moped instead...which was possibly faster and definitely more reliable in the hands of a gormless lad....

That motor looks right at home there. Very neat (finished) job.
