Re: VARA FM Winlink no connect - Stumped!
I swear no one at Microsoft has ever actually used audio controls in Windows - they go out of their way to make accessing them (especially the record / receive] controls) needlessly difficult. You can

Re: VARA FM Winlink no connect - Stumped!
*VARA has a far far more complex audio waveform than classic packet. *
Classic packet transmits only a single frequency-shifting audio tone at a time.? VARA uses 52 (!) simultaneous close-spaced

Re: VARA FM Winlink no connect - Stumped!
My experience is that the volume setting for incoming and outgoing is very
finicky. In Windows there are many gotchas. One on the Microphone (output)
there is voice enhancement, I found it in Windows

Well, I had just done a Winlink session and had not changed any settings
when I tried again. When I subsequently tried the packet session, I made no
changes in my sound settings.
I appreciate your

Re: VARA FM Winlink no connect - Stumped!
I have used both squelched and unsquelched with the radio, no difference.
The RMS never responds to my connect attempts, so there is nothing to
receive. I'll know more when new sound card interface

Re: VARA FM Winlink no connect - Stumped!
Check the "Playback" settings on your Windows "Sound Control Panel"... since you're using a different app for audio I/O (Direwolf vs VARA FM), your sound settings on the control panel might be

Re: VARA FM Winlink no connect - Stumped!
I second that...
However we're talking about receive volume here. If you're monitoring the channel with a second radio (HT), and the gateway station isn't responding to an "Auto Tune" test, the

audio levels are very tricky on VARA FM.? Using an HT, it's easy to hit the volume knob (there's no "data" port on most HT's).? I'd try turning the volume knob down and retry the autolevel

Hi Matt (and others),
I did have setup a Hybride RMS but it is off-air because of local regulations but if needed I can switch on.
It has VHF with Packet and VARA-FM (Wide) , UHF with Packet and

Thanks for the replies everyone! My issue was very simple and I should have checked first. When I connected both radios into my USB hub the PC changed the names of the Soundcard interfaces due to the

Re: VARA FM Winlink no connect - Stumped!
Sorry, that was a typo! I have tried high and low power, with no benefit.
At this point, I have another sound card coming in later this week, and
I'll see if that makes any difference. I did try

Dave;
I looked up all three gateway stations on Winlink.org ( http://Winlink.org ). It looks like NV7LV-10 is a typo on your part... the closest call I could see on the WInlink.org (

Yes to all your questions. Also, I can hear one of the nodes (not sure which one, as the frequency is shared with several in the area) make a connection to another station, and the connecting

Do you hear all 10 Auto Tune bursts, at increasing volume levels? Watch the Auto Tune counter... if any bursts are missing, are they at the beginning or the end of the sequence?
Are you selecting the

I didn't mention Vara FM, depending on what sound card. I know the

I'm not sure what your getting. I see 2 soundcards. I know what the G90
does and I have used my digirig with. I have no idea what the FT 2980 does.
