HBM 4 Jaw chuck for Unimat SL
17
Hi All, Years ago a bought a 50mm HBM 4 jaw independent chuck M12 thread for my Unimat SL. I need to do some work on reducing a couple 25x25x25mm aluminium bars to 24x24x25 and thought it might be a good idea to use my SL. However, It does appear that when I remove a jaw and reverse it, it wont move back into the chuck? Does this mean that the jaws are not reversible I seem to doubt this) and if there are not, how can I realistically swap them around? Any advice will be most greatly received. Many thanks Rob

I'm in need of a couple items and reaching out to see if anyone here might be of help. I'm looking for a single jaw for a 4-jaw chuck (where there more than one type sold and do I need to match a particular model?) I'm also in need of a new tail stock double threaded screw. Thanks, -Brad

795, 895 (etc) DC motors
60
Bit off topic (sorry) but has anyone got experience with these smaller 24V DC motors? This is not for re-motoring the U3 - which I¡¯ve done already, a tremendous improvement - but for an auxiliary spindle. I believe the motor designation number relates to the physical size but I¡¯m having trouble finding a general page as an overview of their characteristics. A google search brings up pages of items being marketed. Any advice and recommendations resulting from your practical experience would be much appreciated. I guess I¡¯m looking for the best balance of size/weight and power, as it would be mounted on the slide. Quality and reasonable longevity are always good as well ! I have a 24V supply with two PWM outputs, so that part is no problem. Thanks!

Emco Unimat 4 / Rear Casting Pad ?
6
Hey Guys, Ive been looking at the Emco Unimat 4 Lathe and notice a protruding 'Pad' in the casting of the bed at the rear of the lathe ! Its reminiscent of the 'V-Block' Protrusion on the Unimat 3 which is used for the vertical mounting bar for the milling head assembly ! I'm wondering, if a somewhat different but also similar arrangement was available for the Unimat 4 ? If not, does anyone know of perhaps plans or kits in existence to add this capability to the Unimat 4 ? Kind Regards,

Looking for some help.

I know you all are going to hate me for this, but I was able to purchase a Unimat Jigsaw/fret saw at an estate sale for $4.00 and a Unimat Table saw at the same sale for $3.00 (I later found the fence, miter gage, and blade guards in different rooms for $.50 each so $4.50 total). I was unable to locate the eccentric drive for the jigsaw or the blade arbor for the table saw anywhere, so I need to make them. I also could not find the Mounting bar for the table saw. I have seen the drawings that are in the files section for the Table saw arbor, and the ones that are there for the eccentric, but I am wondering if anyone would be willing to take a couple of photos of the actual eccentric and provide the measurements (I would like the original one that is counter balanced) Also the Center-to-center distance between the spindle center and drive pin center, which I think is 5mm? If anyone has pictures or drawings of the table saw mounting bar I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance! BTW, there was a Unimat lathe, and boxes of Unimat accessories at this sale that I was unable to get because they were sold by the time I got in the door. The Unimat lathe went for $65.00 and most accessories were $3.00 each Jim in Minnesota

Unimat 3
13
Just had this delivered: The owner fell ill quite a while ago and can no longer use it so his son moved it on. Now it's my turn to clean it up and get it working again, it is in a sad state but if all goes well I will replace one of my SL's with this one. Not many parts came with this so will be looking to add to it at some stage. Phill

Recommendations for stepper motors, controller, software
47
I'm lucky enough to have about three quarters of a second Unimat 3 to play with, and (while this is a huge rabbit hole that I probably don't need to dive down) I'm interested in trying out some CNC technology. I wouldn't want to buy a CNC kit - I'd tinker on myself, so would be particularly like to learn from those who have done it DIY. - what type and size stepper motors did you use? - what hardware controller? - what software? I would more than likely use Linux on a laptop. - how you attached the motors Plus of course any other advice from your experiences. Many thanks!

Copy Attachment or what?
2
I want to reproduce some cams that are on a shaft. Some are circular with the shaft offset from centre, others elliptical & some are sort of heart shaped. I do not want to have to file these up. There must be some way to copy them accurately. Any suggestions? Regards, Brian.

Anyone Actively Unimat?
18
Is anyone actively using their Unimat? I am interested in learning what other Unimat Owners are using their Unimats for. As for me, I am using mine to aid in creating high quality hinged wooden jewelry boxes of exotic hardwoods. The hinges are of brass and are hidden. The top of the boxes are hand carved in relief. -- http://www.homemadetools.net/forum/ OFF-SET-tailstock-center-65965#post105972 http://www.homemadetools.net/forum/s...995#post112113 SMALL TURRET TOOL POST PLANS http://www.homemadetools.net/forum/l...994#post112111 LARGE TURRET TOOL POST PLANS http://www.homemadetools.net/forum/m...383#post110340 MINI-LATHE CARRIAGE LOCK PLANS http://www.homemadetools.net/forum/s...191#post106483 SMALL QC TOOL POST PLANS http://www.homemadetools.net/forum/q...849#post119345 QUICK CHANGE LATHE TURRET http://www.homemadetools.net/forum/m...949#post119893 MINI LATHE COMPOUND PIVOT MODIFICATION

Unimat DB200 Dutch Motor Diagram

#db200
Hi, new to this forum and have a very old cast iron DB200 I am restoring that was given to me. The only problem is that everything is in parts, including the motor. I am close to being done with the entire lathe restoration with exception of the motor. I am looking for a good breakdown/diagram of this early Dutch induction motor. Any help is appreciated!

Thread Size on ER32 collet.

Does anyone know what the thread size is on an ER-32 collet closer nut? I want to adapt my Unimat the nose to fit the collet closer nut. Turning Wood

Many of you may find it sacrilegious but tonight I was turning wood on my SL.

Just bought a DB200, need a motor. (Doesnt have to be an EMCO).
13
Hi- Newbie to the world of Emcos, but found this guy at an estate sale. Couldn't resist it. I've cleaned it up, and nothing seems bent out of true or seized- BUT- it lacks a motor. I cant afford the $150 ones on ebay. Is there a substitute that can be used? I'm thinking 120v, 1/10 HP/120watt AC. Anyone got the specs including shaft/pulley size on the standard DB200?
