Unimat SL refinish/refurb 14
I'm making some questionable decisions but I wanted to refinish one of them and make it look as pristine as I could. I was going to use a rattle can hammered finish, found a color I liked. It didn't take me long to decide I wasn't happy with its durability though so I switched to powder coating. I'm pretty satisfied with this so far. I know there are a few reasons one wouldn't want to do that on a precision machine but I'm ok with the risks. The headstock didn't come out as good as the rest, I forgot to pre bake it to offgas. Whoops. Not sure I care enough to redo it though. Stripping powder coating is a bear. Once I finish coating parts, most of the bare steel parts I'm going to give a thin nickel plate and polish up. Then just regrease things and get it all assembled and ready to roll.

New aftermarket motor db200 lathe 11
My old cast iron unimat has some strange motor (220v) on it which is very noisy. I want to replace it with something else, I see a lot of folks moved to the dc option with transformers and speed control. I would prefer to stay with 220v ac. I was looking at sowing machine motors with a foot control, any suggestios or ideas would be much appreciated. Dave Borneo

Multi-purpose press tool 4
I¡¯ve created a little machine by mixing various 3d printed models I found online and adding my own Tinkercad bits. It is designed to help with creating accessories for the Unimat and other tools. It facilitates tapping alignment, hot insert additions to 3d models and probably a lot more to be discovered yet. Machining 3d prints 36
I made a couple of items from PLA+ and of course got warping on the bottom of them. That caused me to dig out my poor old neglected Unimat. After finding enough parts to be able to use the mill, and fiddling with setup, I have successfully machined the plastic. These parts are solid, 8 walls, 6 top and bottom layers and 100% infill. There are lines on the surface, small and insignificant for this project. The mill head is good side to side but slightly off from front to back. The only way I know to fix that is by using a tiny shim under the mill base. This is the column mounted mill that is independent from the lathe bed. I used a solid carbide end mill. The ¡®chips¡¯ are fuzz and ¡®worms¡¯. No melting, just sticking together made the worms. Easy cleanup. And with the fuzz wiped off the part:

Hello All; New member, long time Unimat 3 user. I recently inherited my boss's old Unimat 3 and accessories, which lead me down the rabbit hole here. He had quite the set up, many of the add-on accessories, and I've added a few of the parts he was missing or were lost in his mess after he passed. I just today uploaded an article from the defunct American model railroad magazine "Mainline Modeler", which shows how to add dial indicators to a Unimat 3. It's not my work, but worth a read as it is another way to improve the U3. FWIW, I started using this Unimat 3 in 1984 after I joined the guy's company, American Model Builders, and he'd bought the Unimat circa 1982. We were a professional model building shop specializing in architectural and piping models located in St. Louis, Missouri; and we did a ton of work for Monsanto, McDonnell-Douglas (and later Boeing after the merger) and all manner of smaller firms. In recent years the firm was primarily making laser cut model railroad structure kits (under the LaserKit trade name), and they just closed after 41 years - even though the owner died almost two years ago. I used the U3 mainly for delicate turnings used in making brass master patterns for white metal spin casting; smokejacks, fire hydrants, wheels and flywheels of all sizes, etc. The machine actually hadn't been used in almost 20 years when I got it, but being a Unimat, it's still in great shape - just bought some new belts and it fired right up. He had the 3-way cross slide, indexing attachment, grinding wheel, steady rest, milling post/table/etc.; and I've added a second drill chuck and some quick change levers. We couldn't find the little vise he had, so I sourced one off eBay and bought it. Total investment by me to date has been about $175. Jeff Saxton

unimat 3d model project 56
Hi, I just joined the group recently. Also pretty new to the unimat stuff but I'm already enjoying this lil machine (db200/sl1000). I noticed some of the accessories are pretty hard to find and pricey and it made me think, why not get everything all modeled up and ready to make from scratch when/if necessary. Has anyone started a similar project already? I searched the group and found a couple conversations that were similar in topic, but none lead me to a link to any actual models. Apologies if I missed one somewhere. If no, anyone interested in working on it with me? I was thinking like a github repo or something with step files of everything. I don't have all of the accessories (yet) but I'm going to start modeling up everything I have soon.

Please list those items you have found and if possible upload them to the files/photos section. I have the tailstock casting files as .stl files and am uploading them now. (If it works)

DB200 for sale
have a Unimat DB200 for sale. It is in working condition and has the power feed attachment. I have a number of accessories including the milling column and table, divider head, threading attachment w 16 and 18 tpi dies, the frame for the low speed pulley set-up and a few other items. The lathe is mounted on a baseplate with a wooden cover. US$650. I have not checked shipping cost which would be additional, so pick-up would be preferred. See attached photos.
