At the risk of being banned from the group as a non-believer, I don't think you are ever going to find an exact match for the "factory" paint.? You MIGHT someday find the Holy Grail and get the "factory" specifications for the paint, but that will give you the color when the Uni left the factory.? Mine is going on 50 years old and there's NO way it's the same color as when it left the factory.? The sun fades colors, and paint oxidizes.? A really good body man will be able to get a very close match to the current color by tinting and/or playing with the settings on the spray gun.? Been there and done that, was taught how to do it by a very experienced body man.? But the Average Joe getting that out of a rattle can - not gonna happen.? And when you get right down to it, the vast majority of our little Uni's aren't exactly show pieces that will get judged and lose points for miss-matched paint.? So does it REALLY matter?
If you absolutely can't stand miss-matched paint, then repaint the whole shooting match, (Even PINK like Tamra did.) and record all the information you can about the paint.? And if you get more attachments in the future, hope that you can still get the exact same paint and paint them to match.? (You did record the color, right?)

Well I asked the "good" bodyman.? This is the shop that the local MB dealership will send you to.? I just stated earlier that they do not do hammered paint.? The Sherwin Williams auto paint store does not handle anything called hammered paint.? Unless someone can tell us all exactly what to do, I conclude that most of this business is a fantasy.? As far as the paint is faded routine, many Unimats are barely taken out of the box.? Yes, original Unimat colors vary.? I have several.? But so far we as a group cannot come up with anything at all, at least for the US.
All this discussion is wasting time as it has no definitive answer.? The Unimat was produced in several different colors, so there is NO ONE COLOR that is the “correct” one.? Besides, the paint colors everyone seems to be searching for are no longer manufactured and no longer distributed.? Accept that, paint your machines whatever color(s) you like, ?then get on with it and use the time you spend writing these e-mails to actually MAKE something with your machines.

?And add to that that I have seen three variations of the "Standard color". The Common Green, One with a slight yellow to it and one with a slight blue to it. And that would be normal for a industrial finish that spanned many years of production. You mix Yellow and Blue to get green, so it would be very easy to be off a bit in the ratio. And this was pre computers etc.?
?And no one mentions that the Unimat also came in a "Hammered" Sliver grey.?

Need more than color, you also need? mix date and lot number. Good luck with that! I found half a dozen cans of Rust-Oleum Hammered Dark Bronze spray paint at my local Home Depot. I'm standardized on that until I run out. Authenticity would be nice, but not worth sweating over. Consider yourselves lucky. I have a Lewis Shaper. They were sold as kits, machined and assembled by each individual and painted any way they wanted... Nothing even remotely resembling a "standard" paint color. ;)

I did not paint a unimat Pink, but do think it would be appropriate as it a favored happy color for me;? I do like the unimat hammered Bronze color that Bill in OKC referenced, too.? ?I do have a Rose Gold Michaels metal cart though.... thought I might use the IKEA Raskog for a mobile lathe tool unit someday.? I did purchase one but it is still in the box.
I do think the SL generation should be green.? My uni is a DB/SL with a Canada badge, and it came to me in Uni green, so the plan is to keep it uni green. I am going with the attempt to color match the existing color on this lathe, and then spray it with rustoleum clear hammered finish.
I have to investigate the base paint, as I don't want water base, if I can avoid it, I do have 3 neighboring states, so will have to make some phone calls.? I'm in Indiana and Michigan is only 20 minutes from me - but I don't know if they have a paint store in the neighboring city across the state line.... and I'm about 2 hours from Chicago, and 2 hours to the Ohio border.? I was confused if I am getting an enamel based paint in Indiana or not at the local Sherwin Williams, and since I have to buy a $30 quart, it is kinda expensive to not get an oil based paint, I would rather try to add this to a road trip if I am not getting an enamel base paint.

This is "Bitec" hammered green. Available in the UK.
On screen this looks nearer to the SL colours I have lived with !
shows a blue very like some Unimats I have seen, and, of course, silver, which has also been used. It looks like the smallest tin they do is 1 litre (1 ? UK, 2 ? US pints). I'm tempted to get a small tin for a few SL parts I will be refurbishing one day, and then pass what's left on to someone else who needs it (UK only!) However, I've gt very little left of the SL, and it will be some time - years - before I get to it.
Ok so let me get this straight. Pour out paint.? Take hammer and hammer away and/ or mix with metal particles. (We should all have plenty of that)? Scoop back into botttle and wallah!! You have hammered paint ready to use.
All kidding aside. That's sure seems like a tedious process, way tooo easily messed up without some exact measurements and ratios for the shade of paint we all seem to be looking for. Best left to professionals IMO.?
Interesting read though. My best-of-luck wishes to anyone that gives it a try. Please do report back with how it turned out. Don't forget to post pictures. I do apologize for the run on sentences and any piss poor grammer I may have used.. Been
a long 48 hours for me.
Reminds me of a Mercury Cyclone a friend of mine had.? One of the small panels on the front of the car somehow got a large scrape on it and needed to be repainted.? Sounds easy, but the paint was an aftermarket metal flake.? Getting the color right was easy for the shop, but getting the metal flake to look right took at least three reapplications.? Variables:? flake color, flake size, flake density, angle of the flakes within the paint.? They all make a difference.??

Pink is indeed a powerful colour Tamara. most boys/men are afraid of it. I have running jacket that’s bright pink and New Balance trainers with Lavender trim. paint one of your lathes pink I say.? one of my race bikes was bright pink for a couple seasons…
Dear rcjge, I am not brave enough to paint my unimat pink, although I love Pink....
I only have male decendents and would love for my tools to stay in the family, (if hmmm.... if I should die before I wake), so I will keep them the correct colors.? Now, if I ever make a 1/12th scale miniature of a unimat, then? it would be incredibly fun to paint my own lathe pink...? These are long into the future projects though, If I am healthy and? don't get an expiration date, I'm working for 10-11 years.... at some point in time in those 10-11 years,??the plan will be to take the summers off and? then I can dig into some real projects without being interrupted to work.
It is still soooo busy at work, no time to play during the day and make phone calls.? Mica is pretty easily found though. 1/4 oz of clear Mica flakes is $7 on Amazon, I might test this too.? I can't paint right now, it is way too cold here to even contemplate painting anything. And the class / workshop season starts at the end of April, where I'm scheduled for classes in April, May and June this year, so I won't be painting until this summer.
