I have an older cast iron DB 200 Lathe and want to raise the headstock for turning larger diameter work, also to allow more reach when used as a vertical mill. After spending some time browsing through the Forum I found some information that states a Two Hole Clamping Bolt and Spacer was offered some time after original production started. The Part Number was DB 1310. I have searched around but cannot seem to locate one for sale at this time. My question is does anyone have drawings or dimensions to make one from scratch? It looks like the through holes are tapered to allow tension when tightened by the screw. There is a drawing for this screw and shows an included angle of 25.4 deg. Even if I were going to make one, that internal angle is not standard and cannot figure out at this point how to bore it. Possibly a custom made taper reamer? The spacer is pretty straight forward and I think a later alloy one would work and they seem to be more avalible, or just make one. Thank You,Frank

Re: Old and 'new' thread cutting atachment
So what do you want for it? I'm gearing up to reproduce some Unimat parts. Mostly for my own use, but also planning on making dimensioned drawings. Or would you consider loaning it out long enough to get the drawings made? Bill in OKC William R. Meyers, MSgt, USAF(Ret.) Aphorisms to live by: Good judgement comes from experience. Re: Rustoleum Green Hammered
Many of the paints in these discussions are not in the US.
I have searched here and I am finding only Rustoleum and Kryon in hammered for US.? The only can is Rustoleum.? There is a Behr, Home Depot, hammered, but it seems to make a pitted finish.? So I must repeat myself.? There is no available color tint mix formula for Unimat green that anyone is able to tell me. I have attached a photo of 2 Unimats with color samples of Benjamin Moore house paint.? I think that the 2 in middle, 482 & 593, are the closest color tone.? If anyone can ever find a way to make a hammered blend, at least these will indicate what goes in.? You can get the actual samples at the hardware store.? Also, if you search Benjamin Moore 482, the color will come up on your screen.?? Home Depot still has some hammered silver cans on sale. |
Re: Mert Baker¡¯s Unimat Theading Method
Thank you, Carl!
I want do some experimenting with this method to see how well this works and how handy it is to use. I would like to also design something in CAD that can be standardized with interchangeable components. It¡¯s the Tool Designer in me driving this idea. I can¡¯t help it. |

Dick
?It has been years, but from what I can remember he used a nut and threaded rod. As the lathe turned, it threaded the two together and moved the cutter the correct amount. He used store bought parts for a cheap set up. I miss his posts.
I did a web search Unimat Mert Thread nut and found this
/g/Unimat/topic/unimat_threading/57583664?p=
And that led to a search in the group's file section for "Doug Collinge"
And here is his PDF on it.

Can anyone direct me to that information? Thanks, Dick |
Re: Mert Baker¡¯s Unimat Theading Method
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHello Dick: I'm sure it is in the files, but the concept is simple. Mount a chuck where the pulley is, the threads are M12x1. Put a rod with the pitch you need, any diameter will work. Use a bracket to mount a nut on the rod. Leave the quill unlocked so as the spindle turns it advances with the threaded rod. It is best if you can include a crank on the end of the threaded rod so you can crank the part back and forth as you advance the threading tool. This set up is good for 25mm of thread at a time, and then you can move the threading tool for more length. Use the carriage to "re-time" the tool to the thread. Good
luck, Carl. On 3/28/2023 9:40 AM, OldToolmaker via

Re: Old and 'new' thread cutting atachment
I had not seen the earlier version before, it looks very well built. I have two of the later style and they work great. Great find.

Yes, the grey one is the first version. But I think it is aluminium also. |
