Re: Case / base for newly acquired PC/basic

I adapted an old carpenter¡¯s toolbox to hold my lathe. The major modification was to the front folding section - this was beefed up with a section of counter-top and I added a pair of feet pinned with hinge sections. Pulling the hinge pins allows the lathe to fold up into the box. The lathe is held in place by knock-down furniture screws - the shanks just fit into the lathe mounting holes and act as keepers. ? ? ??Pics here:?

? " According to Ruben, everything I might want to do is almost useless.? This seems to be the nature of many IO discussion groups:? mostly talk. "

John, you don't know me and I don't know you, but you're to fast with conclusions.
I jumped into action and the 2 unimat's in original paint went for the studio to make color neutral photo's.

You want to preserve the original Unimat color's, but strange enough you don't want to hear about an accurate way to do it.....!?

Check on the group site, Many have posted drawings and cad data on measurements.

Re: Rustoleum Green Hammered

Ok,? here are photos of four different SL's. Note one has a Grey Headstock and also note that on one the motor color in difference, a little lighter and that is the motor that came with it. That lighter color is closer to the Rust-o-leum Rosemary. You could also ask for photos of the accessories, because they were painted the same as the lathes.

Re: Case / base for newly acquired PC/basic

A sheet steel top is a good idea, making it easier to use a magnetic base indicator holder even if you have an alloy machine. I don't know enough about the PC/Basic machines. I've only laid eyes on 6 of the Unimats, including the two I own. And I wasn't able to touch the other four.

I'd thought? one of mine was a DB, as it says it's a model DB-200, but the rest of the label on the headstock says it's a Unimat-SL, and both are alloy beds, headstocks, tailstocks, etc.? I'm so confused!?

Such a wealth of information in all your replies.

I have much to think about when I sit down to design it this week.

I'm considering a combination of wood (with sealed surfaces, or perhaps a steel sheet on top), and aluminum extusion for the sides.

Re: Unimat SL - Vertical column & Headstock Adapter

I haven't either. But know (of ) some folks who have, like the Mike of the link I provided. For those who live in the UK, you can buy a kit to make a rotary broaching tool from Hemingway.?? Might be a bit too large for a Unimat. Should be just about right for a Myford.?

That means total manuel control of all camerasettings, total manuel control of all lightning settings and also workingscreen.
Otherwise your register is useless as a color reference

Hi Carlos, did you manage to buy this and modify the backplate so everything runs well?

Re: Unimat SL - Vertical column & Headstock Adapter

That is not lazy, it's smart. Though you should be able to make a rotary broaching tool for the Unimats, as a number of folks have for mini-lathes.?

http://mikesworkshop.weebly.com/rotary-broaching.html

I'm not sure it would work as well on a Unimat due to the size difference in the machines, but it should work at least for smaller sized broaches.

Hello Dave:

I would tap the end M6 and Loktite a M6 SHCS in.

I'm lazy like that.

You can get taps & dies in M12-1 from Amazon, and make your own, if you want. Seems to me me I saw allthread in M12-1, as well. Didn't buy that, since I got the tap & die. ;)

Hi Gang:

Does any one know of a source for the SL1000 bolt? M12x1 is a odd thread and the closest I've found are pipe/tubing fitting.

Thanks, Carl.

Re: Case / base for newly acquired PC/basic

Hi All,

?

Such a wealth of information in all your replies.

Much appreciation to all :)

I have much to think about when I sit down to design it this week.

I'm considering a combination of wood (with sealed surfaces, or perhaps a steel sheet on top), and aluminum extusion for the sides.

?

Re: Case / base for newly acquired PC/basic

Approximately 40 pounds (both lathe + vertical milling attachment)!
