Uiview32 Start up on Windows 10
I had a quick scan of previous posts and did not see any relevant thread to my question, so here goes...
I now have Uiview32 installed on 3 PCs all running Windows10 Professional. 64BIT Uiview32 is mounted OUTSIDE of the programs folder directly on the C: Hardrive My problem is that after the PC has been rebooted (Both a cold start and a simple power cycle restart) My first attempt to start Uiview32, it remains hidden. It is not running in the hidden Icons folder in the task bar either! I open up Task Manager and it shows Uiview32 in the list of programs that are running so I kill it and then start Uiview32 again and this time it shows up on the desktop and everything works just fine. Every successive start of Uiview32 after that is just fine until I have to reboot the PC and then I see the same problem again. It makes no difference if you start Uiview32 by right clicking and starting in Administrator mode I am curious if anyone else has seen this and if so is there a "fix" I can apply to cure this problem! 73 Steve, kf6wax |
I've had that issue with a netbook running Win 7 starter. I just restart the program each time I want to use it on a cold boot. It would be nice to know the why? But it does run correctly if you kill it and then restart.

Same thing here Steve. I always forget where it is in Task manager and
have to hunt for it to shut it down. When you try to run it again it says UiView is already running. Also, Win 10 64 bit. Ron NY3J On 8/2/2015 4:31 PM, kf6wax@... [ui-view] wrote:

It is nice to know that I am not alone in this problem, I have now also found that My WX station stopped showing weather data, it ran briefly as kf6wax-3 then simply stopped and nothing I do can get it to start again.
I am using the latest version of Weather Display (registered) and have the WXNOW.TXT set up!! 73Steve, kf6wax From: "Ron Wenig rwenig@... [ui-view]" <ui-view@...> To: ui-view@... Keith,
So I set "com port none", rebooted and started UiView and it didn't come up. I then went into Task Manager and found UiView. This time I right clicked and selected "Analyze wait chain", not sure what that means. Screen shot is included. This time I waited, I think around 10 minutes and "wait chain" went away and UiView came up. So I guess it's going to take a while for UiView to start in Windows 10 the first time it's started after a reboot. Ron NY3J On 8/2/2015 5:30 PM, Keith VE7GDH ve7gdh@... [ui-view] wrote:

It looks like we are getting closer to the problem with Ron's finding the?Analyze wait chain in Task manager, of course this still does not explain why any future restarts of Uiview start quite normally after the first hung delay,As I said earlier Keith, I only use TCPIP, and no RF so I never have to configure a Port,

Ron,
I tried the same thing last night and my wait chain time was 1.5 hours, after that Uiview popped up on the screen and ran as normal. Patently we need to find a way to get around this "Wait Chain" or simply doing what I currently do, Kill Uiview and do another restart, I am sure that there is someone out there with computer skills far above my level of understanding to sort this problem out! 73Steve, kf6wax From: "Ron Wenig rwenig@... I've seen reports of programs using DDE having delays on start up under Windows 10. The problem seems to lie in a defect of Cortana. People who have disabled Cortana find the delays go away. I don't know if UI-View uses DDE but you might try disabling Cortana and see if things improve. I don't have anything running Windows 10 to try myself.

It looks like it's actually waiting for searchui.exe which is part of Cortana. I did some searches and it looks like you can't completely disable Cortana. I don't think Microsoft wants you messing with her. When I killed just the searchui.exe program under the Uiview.exe wait chain Uiview then started. I guess it's the price you have to pay for using UiView with Windows 10. Ron NY3J On 8/3/2015 11:01 AM, steve kf6wax@... [ui-view] wrote:

There is a way to analyze the wait chain and find what process is causing the wait. In Win7 you get to it through the resource monitor utility. Finding out what's causing the wait, might provide a clue.
I don't see the problem here but on a system with a long delay, using the resource monitor you might be able to figure it out. John - K9IJ steve kf6wax@... If you want to disable Cortana completely, just launch the personal assistant, click on the small hamburger button in the top left corner and look for the option that reads Do you want Cortana to work for you? Simply choose Off and you're good to go. It may or may not totally disable it, but it's worth a try. John - K9IJ Ron Wenig rwenig@... [ui-view] wrote: Steve, --

I saw your wait time and I had to test it myself. So I started UiView and mine took close to 3 hours and it finally started. Cortano and all of her secret searches are all turned off also. Ron NY3J On 8/3/2015 12:30 PM, Ron Wenig wrote:
