Changing the Finger Server text

I am very perplexed and hope someone can point out where I can make a change to stop the following happening!
I have changed the Finger server text in both the UiView32.ini file and the UInws.ini file and in both files click on SAVE to save the changes. I even reopen the files to check that the finger server information did not change! As soon as I start Uiview32 both of these files revert to the original server information so that I see the following lines in both files, [WXSVR] TITLE=WxSvr FQDN=wxsvr.net FQDN-wx.aprs-is.net Yes I deleted the line FQDN=wxsvr.net but it reinserts itself! I am running Uiview32 in Admin mode and Uiview is on the C Drive outside of the program folder. This problem exists on 2 desktops and a laptop all running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit Strangely a Desktop running Windows 10 in a beta version does not have this problem yet Uiview is Mounted on the C Drive in exactly the same way! Is there a fix please? And yes I did SAVE changes made in both files! Thanks in advance Steve, KF6WAX |

As of mid-July 2009, the "virtual igate" WXSVR that injected the NWS alerts into the APRS Internet system to make the NWS feature work was shut down. A replacement server, AE5PL-WX, is now providing this service. Shapes and symbols for severe weather WARNINGs should appear on maps just as before. However, using the right-click "finger" function to retrieve the full text of NWS bulletins will require editing the two files UIview32.INI and UINWS.INI located in the main UIview program folder.
Shut down UIview. Locate the string FQDN=WxSvr.net in each file and replace it with FQDN=wx.aprs-is.net . Restart UIview. Note that the volume of traffic provided by the new server is far, far less than the old one. AE5PL-WX only transmits WARNINGS (servere weather actually in progress) but not the ALERTS and WATCHES sent by the old server. As a result, you will never see the yellow ALERT areas and orange WATCH areas that formerly appeared on UIview maps; only the red WARNING shapes will appear. |

Which O.S. is in play? Any chance that Windows is protecting you from making changes to files within the C:/Program Files folder?

UI-View must be shut down, before you edit the .ini files. When UI-View starts, it reads the files, then when it shuts down it re-writes the entire .ini file with the values it read at startup. If it's already running with the original values, it'll just write them back into the .ini files, regardless of what changes you might have made to them. John - K9IJ kf6wax@... Anyway as Stephen said the whole thing is a moot point and the warnings are heavily moderated these days. I was simply curious why these files would rewrite themselves all the time and of course done while Uiview was switched off....oh well....off down another rabbit hole now!
