RE Pinpoint:

1)? It is hopelessly tethered to the Internet.? You can't do decent mapping without an Internet connection. Yes, you can cache fixed map views (i.e. static bit map "pictures of maps").? But it lacks freely-scrollable, zoomable vector-based mapping off-line. ? UIview can operate autonomously (i.e. in the field or a mobile) without an Internet connection because the entire Precision Mapping database of North America is installed on your local hard drive.

2)? During my experiments with APRS on 60 meters, I discovered a shortcoming Pinpoint that is shared with most other APRS clients except UIview:? ?? You can't force a beacon manually.

[On 60 meters, automated transmissions are prohibited due to the band being shared with federal government users. You have to be able to listen first to the channel and then trigger a transmission on demand.? At my request, the author of YAAC added a manual beacon-on-demand function to his program.? So far other programs (other than UIview) lack this capability.]

3)? Digipeating depends on the digipeating function built-into classic hardware TNCs.?? No digi function is built into the Pinpoint program.

*UIview still outdoes them all, even after 18 years of non-development!*

Hi everyone,

Will I have tried APRSIS and don’t care for it much. Have tried to get
Xastir and BPQ working but I’m not a Linux guy. Started out with UI-View
after trying some other Windows sytems many years ago and keep coming
back. Loved all the features it had to bad they don’t all still worked.
Wish there was a way to reverse engineer and update it. Wonder how many
out there are like me and still use it.

I have an original copy that I would be happy to let you have. The only
problem is that I have it here in England. If you can't come up with a
copy any other way, then I will ship it to you.

I started looking around for the latest software to take advantage of the newer radios and win 10 etc...

found soundmodem by trying the UISS software, seems to be a good alternative to Direwolf or AFWPE.
If you download the latest soundmodem version from the authors' website, I dont see the needed supported mode info.......

I still have my registration info for UI-view, and I'm working on putting it all back together using a FT-991.
I remember there needed to be a lot of edits affecting routing in the U.S., but cant seem to find the info. are the changes still valid?
There are numerous tweaks that need to be done to UIview today, both to install in Windows versions after XP, ? and outdated settings that need to be changed after the initial install.

All the details are here on my website:

<>

Note also that:

?? 1) ? The Precision Mapping program used for fully zoomable, scalable dow-to-street-level maps of all of North America with UIview? is no longer. The publisher went bust several years ago. The website is gone, including the "Register My App" server that was required to register the program and receive the "magic number" unlock code to activate the program.
?? However, if you only want to use Precision Mapping 9.0 as a map source inside UIview (not as a standalone application), you don't need to register/activate Precision Mapping. Just install the program, run it once, dismiss the prompt to register and close the program. It's now good to go with UIview after you install the Precision Mapping Server 9.0 plugin for UIview.

?? 2)??? A complete ready-to-run UIview setup including all plugins and Precision Mapping,?? packaged as a VMware virtual machine,? is downloadable from my website. You first have to download and install the free VMware Player on your computer. Then use the player to open my virtual machine file.? If you place the VMware player installer and my machine file on a 16GB or larger flash drive, you can slap a completely functional UIview setup onto any recent computer in just minutes, instead of the hours of setup and tweaking normally required. Since VMware players are available for Linux and MacOS as well as Windows, this setup should be able to run on a Macintosh or Linux box as well as on Windows host machines.? Go to:
