CoC - couple of rule checks
4
Hi - still playing Scenario 4 from Kampfgruppe von Luck " Delaying action at the Chateau " and a couple of re questions have come up: 1. Throwing grenades over 8ft walls - if you miss do they come back as you are throwing upwards? 2. Shock - if a support unit is within 4 inches of a squad do they count for sharing shock - in our example a Panzershreck team has attached itself to a squad of 4 men with 6 shock Sorry if these have already been covered off but we had a lot of discussion over them tonight! Force Support
8
Hi all, I am getting ready to play the Platoon 5 mini campaign using Geoff Bond's excellent solo rules from the latest lard magazine. The first scenario is a Patrol one and I am getting the support options ready but am a little confused as to what level will be available for the German forces as there is such a difference in platoon strengths - The Paras are rated at +8 and the Germans at -2 giving a whopping 10 point difference! In the setup for the Patrol scenario the rules state "For support roll 1D6. On a roll of 1or 2 , both sides may select support from list 1 (amended depending on relative Platoon Strength Ratings)" So let's say for example I roll a 2 - is this adjusted for list or points available? Ie do the Germans select from list 1 + 10 =11 or do they have 10 points to spend on list !? Sorry if this is basic but I normally just play Pint sized campaigns where the support options are always very clear Sent from my Galaxy

Chain of Command rules question
15
Hi all, I am currently playing Scenario 4 "Delaying Action at the Chateau" fro Kampfgruppe von Luck as the Paras defending the Chateau. My dastardly German opponent has brought on a Lorraine Schelper which has fired at the Chateau causing it to be unstable and then played a coc dice to end the turn and force my paras to leave the building out of the front door with 2 killed by falling rubble. I now have 3 questions: 1. Are leaders treated in the normal way when there are casualties from rubble or do you dice for them individually? 2. There is a sniper on the roof - what happens to him? 3. As the paras are now outside in the open can they run back and through the unstable building or do they have to run around it to try and find some cover? Thanks in advance Sent from my Galaxy

How do I get published in the Specials?
2
So I am still probably at least a year away from trying to create a Battle of the Bulge scenario for IABSM and see if I can get it published in a TFL Special. What is the process for doing so? Is there someone who can mentor me through the process? Anybody willing to be a play tester for me? Thanks! -Dan Albrecht (Dischord: Dan in Vermont)

Platoon 5
5
Hi, I am about to embark on playing the Platoon 5 campaign from wss 74 but I have a few questions around the details How does the 6th dice work for the paras - I have read somewhere that it should be thrown separately? What is a superior junior leader?

Infamy! Infamy! query
3
Good morning, I need a little advice on the Infamy rules in connection to the use of missiles by both attackers and defenders in the movement before a melee [the charge phase if you like]. 1. The attacker: provided the attackers obey the rule to move on one die not two dice and the leader has a spare command or a signa card the attackers can 'fire' on the way in? 2. The defender: the defender can 'fire' if they have a signa card or they their leader has not yet activated and has an Infamy card that allows an interruption? Can they fire simply because their leader has not yet activated? 3. A linked but separate topic. Roman drills etc. e.g. shields up. I can see that with a signa card to spare you can do this at the point of need. Can leaders "save" a command when they are activated OR use one if they have not yet been activated OR order one in advance though it might not be needed. For example. A formation of legionaries faces a horde that are getting high on fervour. Their Centurion is activated, can he order 'brace' now so that if they are charged later in the turn they are ready; or can he save a command to order "brace" if it's needed; or does he depend on having a signa card to play at the moment before impact? Thanks for any help. I'm in the midst of my first real campaign and so far the Gauls are getting the best of it. Stephen

Review of 2020 Games
18
In 2020 I played 44 wargames of these 27 were TFL games 8 were my own rules [3 sets] &9 were other commercial sets [6 different sets of which only one was played more than once] Of the TFL games I played most Dux Brit - 19 games - mainly but not exclusively playtesting for the Compendium. There were 3 games of SP2 Infamy Infamy gave me 4 games - this was the much anticipated event of 2020. What a Tanker had 1 game. The Commercial sets were: A Gentleman's War, Beneath the Lily Banners 2, A Fistful of Kung Fu, Hardwired, Zona Alfa, and Tribal. My own sets were "Bohemian Rhapsody" - 17th century, "Flight of Fan[ta]cy", and "Wrath of Ra" - Egyptian harem combat. What's your year looked like Rules-wise? Has there been a predominant set or an epicure's mix [dog's breakfast] like me? Can you declare that "Lard is for life?" All the best for 2021 Stephen

Well that was short
My first Infamy Infamy campaign is already over. The Romans succeeded in preventing the Gauls leaving with the ladies they were escorting. It was a brutal fight and the Gallic Chieftain was badly wounded. On rolling for recovery he rolled a 6 plus 1 for the loss of 2 status levels and died though with his reputation intact. I decided that a year of not much happening passed except the Centurion Sender Victorious lost the enhanced reputation and follower he had gained so I can start afresh. "Fortunately" the old chieftain named his son after himself so I don't need to make any changes there! I rerolled reputation for both sides and the results were the same as before too! So my second campaign! of the year and it's only the 2nd of January. The next scenario is Ubique. Stephen

Lard Magazine The Magistrates Daughter
The scenario looks like a good one, but I have a few questions. British player two’s force is commanded by Captain Cornwall but no status is given for him. What should that be? The objectives for each side don’t specify at which point victory is determined, for example if the British rescue the two women from the house do they need to get them off the table, or is contacting them an immediate victory? Given movement is specified for the cow I’m assuming you need to get them somewhere, so would assume that is off the same table edge they entered? Or would any table edge do?

An Infamous New Year
A Happy New Year to all Lardites and Lardophiles. Infamy on all Luddits and Lardophobes. I ended 2020 by clearing the French and Spanish TYW from the table. The French "Queen's Light Horse" having covered themselves with glory. I thought I'd begin the New Year with my first Infamy Infamy campaign - hence the title at the top. I've played a few games. Now it's time for Chieftain Fulliautomatix to take on Centurion Sender Victorius in a full campaign. Let the carnage begin. Well almost, just one or two bits to check, like ambush points, then off we go drawing cards. I've rolled the escort scenario and it's the Gauls doing the escorting. All the best to you and your dice for 2021. Alea iacta est. Stephen

Watch out for Weedy Coves
10
Between painting Roman Auxiliaries for Infamy Infamy, I've a Carlist Wars game using SP2. The Rifles have been having success against the Carlist Micqueletes in the tower on the hill. The Carlists have sent the men in white skirts - Valencian Conscripts - to reinforce the position. The Irish Grenadiers stormed up the hill to throw them back. The Grenadiers are two classes better than the Valencians who also have the penalty of being 'weedy coves'. The Irish lost by six men and have run back 18" carrying their unconscious officer. I couldn't believe it. If it had been a club night and not a solo game we'd be talking about this for years. You have to "love the lard". What a story created by the magic when rules meet dice. I wonder what will happen next. p.s. just for fun a number of my British Auxiliary Legion units for this game have a leader 1 subaltern in charge with a leader 2 sergeant in support which adds another tension to things. p.p.s. dutifully listening and enjoying the Advent calendar - TFL just keeps on giving. Email address

I've just noticed that my old address (@btinternet.com) is still being shown - I asked for this to be changed a while ago but just noticed this hasn't happened - I tend to visit FB or Twitter where most people seem to have gone to and so, eventually, I did too. I still miss the old way of us all communicating - especially at this time of year. New address is mick.scales@... if anyone wants to get in touch Best wishes to all Mick

Fall SP AWI game
5
I had a hankering to get my Fall foliage out for a game so came up with a AWI scenario for Sharp Practice. It was similar to the rescue scenario but was going to be turned around and was an attempt to capture a rebel leader by the Jagers. This was another game played via texting with friends in the Atlanta area. Jess was the Jagers who were trying to grab a local reb commander and had a force of 30 Jagers. William opted to be the Rebels this time and he had 3 groups of militia and another 3 groups of rifle armed skirmishers. What Jess didn't know was that it was trap to give the annoying Crown raiders a bloody nose. I would arrive with 2 groups of light dragoons later in the game. Chris joined us later to take over for William Link to the fickr AAR. Be sure to click on the pics for descriptions. Mark

I've been watching the What a Cowboy game reports with great interest and anticipation. Will it be a published rules set or included in Lard Magazine? Thanks Chuck

Infamy in Darkest Africa?
Knowing the propensity for Lardyphiles to adapt rules to different periods I've been wondering about earlyish [muskets not rifles] Colonial games using Infamy. In particular looking at the Perry Cape Wars range. If the indigenous tribes attack hand to hand like Celts and Germans the building up of Fervour might work well for Zulus and Xhosa. The Colonial Forces could use the Roman rules to reflect their discipline in linear formations fighting to the front. Moving from the grasslands to the forests what about the French Foreign Legion facing the Amazons of Dahomey [Dixons do these and I think there may be a newer range] where the trees will reduce firearm ranges? The 'darken the skies' would enable a crashing volley. It's all just idle talk at the moment, I've no immediate plans to rush out and buy new figures - I've still some Romans to paint as it is. It's just that some of the Infamy mechanisms look useful in other settings. If you've nothing sensible to do you might care to share your thoughts. "Playing the Period not the Game" is a good reminded that we're offered specific rules to fir specific era's tactical challenges but as gamers we can't help wondering even if it leads nowhere. By the sounds of "What a Cowboy" - sometimes it works! Stephen

CoC Petsamo Kirkenes game
It was so nice to get an in person game in. Jess and I played a CoC game on his back deck with my 15mm stuff. It was a Probe game set in the Kirkenes Petsamo campaign of 1944. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic and weather likely turning, it will probably be the last game there this year. Infamy, Infamy in the Late Empire
10
I'm not too interested in the Early Republic etc but an fascinated by the "Late" Empire-say 300-450. I'm wondering (obviously) if Infamy, Infamy contains the data to game that period. Or is a supplement on the horizon? TIA Tom from Seattle

Infamy Roman Cart colours

Slightly offbeat one, I am looking for any suggestions on colours for the Roman passenger cart. I haven't come across any original depictions and wondered what they might have been painted. Many thanks Doug

Hi -- I've recently seen posts alluding to an actual CoC WWI Supplement and not the rules in the 2014 Xmas Special for adapting CoC to WW1. Does this supplement exist? I find nothing. Thanks Chuck
