Thanks Andrew - that's an excellent link and seeing Joe Balkoski is participating is a real bonus for me as I've read his two books on the 29th in Normandy.

I'd like to publicise an excellent set of videos featuring iconic Normandy battlefield tours. Paul Woodage is a battlefield tour guide. As his metier is curbed this season, he and other guides have teamed up to produce virtual tours across numerous sites in Normandy.

They started on D-Day with various beaches and continued with US, British and Canadian engagements. The latest below are at St L? in 2 parts. They stream live on YouTube with multiple viewpoints in the field and an expert on the topic commenting.?

I have no connection to them, just a fascinated viewer who much appreciates the tactical insights of the real terrain. You can also support their work on patron or directly.?

I bought Infamy to support the Lardie cause but I'm immersed in IABSM at the moment and musing on getting into Sharpe in the Peninsula with SP2

I've not bought?Infamy (working on Japanese to use with Dux), but my first set were printed out Sharp Practice 1. I often take out my books just to page through as they look so good. And also to pine over as I have no time for games but that's a different story!

IABSM to Infamy

My first set of Lardy rules was I Ain't Been Shot, Mum. Probably more for the title than anything else, although a review by Rich Jones in some online magazine or other convinced me to go for it.

My latest set of Lardy rules arrived this morning (the hard copy version) and is the Infamy bundle.

I have not had a single 'duff' set of rules from the guys and the production values just keep getting better.

Just look at the visual improvement between the rules in the two attached images. Now in both cases the rules offer an excellent game. But there's a whole world of difference between the production values of the two. One is a couple of steps up from a club produced set of rules. The other can stand alongside the most expensive of them and not look out of place.

Only one thing stops this potentially being the golden age of wargaming ... painting the bloody figures. If I somehow managed to sort that out, I'd be in gamer paradise. :-)

Cheers
Chris

Re: Anzio IABSM book, question, Scenario #14

If you know the location see if the RR or cutting is still there using Google earth.
Cuttings implies to me a ditch through a hill too steep or big to go over but not big enough for a tunnel. The area around Anzio was supposed to be recovered swamp so there can't be much high ground.

Search for the closest large town. I must presume there is a map reference of some kind.

Anzio IABSM book, question, Scenario #14

Hi folks: looking to play Scenario #14: North of Carroceto

the book refers to a railroad cutting.? it makes no statement however on how steep it is, if vehicles can enter it or not, etc...? in other scenarios in the book it will say whether a cutting or ravine can be crossed by vehicles.

any thoughts on how to play this situation?? rules for tanks going down into or up out of the cutting? thanks, Dan

pt 2 FJ defense of Wulkow 4/45

We played this one remotely back in June and I just got around to editing the pics. 2 new players from the 1st game, but it picks up as the 2nd wave of Soviets are attacking.
Jess is now the FJ player and Sheridan the Soviet.
The defenders are down 28 out of 76 men, both Paks are gone, 1 MMG gone, and they have 3 Hetzers left. Both the 120mm mortar btty and the 150mm sfH 18 were still around but would soon have to displace.
Sheridan had a new company from the 301st Rifle Div 1050 Inf Rgt,of 2, 3 sect platoons. A T34/85 (8 tanks) company from 51st Bttn, 220 Seperate Tk Brig and the surviving IS2 of the 92nd Gds Hvy Tk Rgt 1 IS2 was immobilsed but could provide fire support. The MMGs were also available to give support from the industrial area. 82mm mortars were also a possibility.

I use Messenger with 2 threads and oddles of pictures. I handle the card pulling, dice rolling and physical placement of the minis.

Your reference is too obscure for me.? Sally?

Re: solo COC?

Hi.

Bit late to the conversation.

Take a look at Albedi Conbat Patrol via Sally 4th.

During lock down they set up a solo campaign, with rule and guidance on how the NPC forces would react. Including ideas on whether they would regard themselves as winning or losing. Then on how they would react based on that.

May contain a couple of ideas to help.

Regards

Ian

I personally find that the card-driven rules just solo better.? And I’m a bit daft, I make up the blinds and give them to the Mrs to shuffle.? The blinds then I lay them out left-to-right without looking.? Makes for some unique deployments.

I agree TW&T would also be a good rule set for Solo.? So would IABSM!, AoF, and FOW for that matter.

Am trying the Campaign to provide the flavor.? First scenario is an ambush of a simulated (since only a platoon is carried) troop train of Panzergrenadiers by Soviet partisans, at night.? It was the night rules (one scenario book suggests limiting spotting to 12" for night rules) and what does my opponent do that was the question.

?

NUTS has a NPC offensive and defensive table to randomly determine the NPC actions.

Re: solo COC?

I found that Troops, Weapons and Tactics was better for me solo than CoC. The cards are similar for fit to SP and Dux and allow for some scenario flavour.?

Re: Infamy

You are already able to do the post-Nero civil wars with the initial rules.

A friend of mine, Liam, just printed the first of these for me.

I intend to paint the numerals gold and the border white.
