Re: Temperature only transmitter
I have used several.? The TT4 uses the LM335z in a TO92 package, I think.? Nice because tou can connect it remotely with 2 wires. It also has the ability to add a POT for calibration.? Best done at the sensor, so still only needs 2 wires.? To do this, you put the resistor before the external wire out to the remote sensor and read the voltage after that resistor.

I've also used TMP35, 36, 37 sensors (TO92 package).? I think they are cheaper, but require 3 wires (Vin, Vout, Gnd).? TMP35 is easiest to work with.? TMP37 gives more output.? I like the TMP37, myself (after the LM335z). I've also just used straight thermistors.? I think the the devices above are much better.

Re: Temperature only transmitter
The Micro-Trak products based on the TT3 also have built in temperature sensors. Most use the LM335Z, which can be removed and remotely placed, or through an auxiliary input. The RTG-FA is pretty popular for RV's, Trailers, etc. ( The hardest part in these beasts is always trying to find a way to mount a decent antenna to the shell) The TT3 does not allow storing a fixed location. You can either allow the unit ( In configuration) to send packets even though there is not a valid GPS position being fed to the TT3, or add a GPS. Having a GPS attached is probably a good idea if your Trailer might actually move. FYI, the RTG can "sleep" the GPS between scheduled transmissions to save power, and this will also minimize the internal temperature of the board, enough so at least to perhaps avoid having to add an external temperature sensor.? I think Scott Miller's OpenTrack product has the ability to change config based on various factors, i.e, Altitude, temperature, supply Voltage ( Scott, sorry if I am getting any of these wrong) so it may be a little better suited to your application. 73, Allen AF6OF On Tue, Mar 23, 2021 at 11:19 AM Rob Giuliano via <kb8rco=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Temperature only transmitter
Both versions of the TT4 (built & kit) have a temperature sensor on the board.? However, these are likely inside the case and not a good indication of ambient. I'd suggest an external sensor conbected to another input.??

Re: TT4 and another device on the same radio work?
Scott,
Outstanding! Since the DTMF remote has seven logic level outputs, you should be able to do a lot of things.?
Thanks,?

The area I am in is definitely not busy on the APRS frequency but that could change if I put in a digi on a mountain. But yeah... That's a lil more then I wanna get into... Don't wanna open that can of worms. But actually last night I already ordered your Byonics DTMF remote with transceiver built in cuz I figured it couldn't be that easy. It will have MUCH lower power consumption then having to install a whole nother radio just for a DTMF controller. Thanks Scott v.

Re: TT4 and another device on the same radio work?
Scott, That is a lot to unpack! I think you could get away with doing what you suggest, but it is very possible you will have distortion issues from wildly unpredictable?audio impedance mismatches, and possibly, clock noise from your DTMF device, bleeding into the audio line when the TT4 is transmitting. I think you will have to test experimentally and add audio transformers, noise suppression toroids, hot glue and finger?tip blood?etc. if it becomes necessary. My main question is this: If you are using the DTMF control ( And I am assuming it would have to be on your didgipeater's?frequency) what will the DTMF control?actually operate? Using your radio's audio, you could only turn off the radio once if it went into an unstable?state, and require a personal visit back to the mountaintop to restart it. Will you just use the DTMF control to reset the TT4, but not the radio, or have a timed ( as opposed to commanded) reset??
Now I may be biased ( Hell, I am biased!) But if the DTMF controller is going to be used to turn off and on your station when it has gone into a condition where it is hanging up, locked up, transmitting a dead carrier, etc, the receiver connected to your TT4 may or may not be available to accept commands, even if you can get clear tones on the busy APRS frequency. My bias leans me to suggest an external receiver. By a happy coincidence, we make such an animal, a 1 X 2 PCB that has a built in transceiver and DTMF decoder that can be set to any CTSS, DCS, and Frequency in the Ham band ( Or up to 174 MHZ if you are licensed to use another VHF band-note that it will only transmit tone command confirmations in the Amateur 2 meter band. It also has a lock and unlock code.? http://byonics.com/dtmf
It possible I have completely misunderstood your question, in which case...Never mind!

Would it be okay to splice the audio out for replies from the dtmf controller into the TT4 audio out to radio wire? Wondering if the audio being played on the tiny tracks audio out pin wouldn't hurt it? And I'm assuming it would be just fine to splice the audio in from the tiny track to the controller, may require volume adjustments afterwards? It seems like the ptt you could go to the ptt IN on the TT4 and then the tiny track wouldn't step on its transmissions correct??? I don't recall them called Photofacts though.
I looked at the Heathkit stuff and some other old brand radios but didn't remember photofacts.

One of the things I find extremely helpful is the Byonics archive: Lots of good old reference materials, old config software, etc. A nice Museum of all things Byonics!?http://www.byonics.com/tinytrak4/

Yes, I do too. The MTT4BT is on the verge of being just a tad too complicated to draw out that way on a single page. Remember the old "Sam's Photofacts" publications filled with schematics that folded up like road maps? Maybe you are not that old, but in those ancient days, almost every commercial electronic product had a Photofacts pub for bench technicians!?

The version in V8 is VERY clear!
I guess I am just old school, but I prefer the old style schematics with lines crossing and showing the trace connections more than the ones which require you to find labels (like PA3 at the uP and the PA3 up in the right corner at JP15).?
