Wanted: 013-0291-02 Probe to BNC adapter, or help to DIY
2
Hi all, I'm currently searching for a 013-0291-02 (or -00, -01 etc if they exist) probe to BNC adapter that isn't going to cost me a left kidney and first-born son... It looks like this: https://i.imgur.com/2EaqnTS.jpg If anyone has one of these to sell and can ship to Japan, please let me know! Or even if you could take some good photos and measurements and help to examine its construction, in the off chance a DIY reproduction could be made... Thanks! Jared

577 D1 with 177 fixture value question
9
I recently bought a 577 D1 curve tracer with a 177 text fixture on ebay for $845. It was described as being in working condition, but it's not. The CRT has no glass in it. There is also no broken glass in the thing, so the CRT was installed this way. Otherwise, it seems to be if fair condition. Collector voltage is lower than selected by 10 to 15%, one knob is missing, and one is cracked. Otherwise, not too bad. My question is this: For the money that I've already got in it, should I buy a CRT and fix this one? Or should I try to get a refund and keep looking? In either case, any suggestions on where to look (other than ebay)? Thanks in advance. Ryan

Tektronix 2247A problem. Keep or return?
24
Hi folks. I recently purchased a Tek 2247A scope and upon testing it for the first time, it locked up when testing the B sweep with a msg that said 'INVALID INTERRUPT FROM 0993:F082' When I rebooted, the screen has an indecipherable error message that appears to read something along the lines of 'Part Number 100-xxxx-00' with a bunch of exclamation marks. I couldn't clearly read what the part number as it was out of focus and could get it to focus well enough to read the numbers. The 'Auto Level' and 'Auto' LEDs were flashing which indicates both a RAM and ROM problem according to the service manual. The SGL SEQ LED was also flashing but there's nothing in the service manual that mentions that LED, or at least nothing that I've found. I let the scope sit for 10 minutes and it booted back up in service mode and gave a failed battery warning, and ran through self calibration. I left the unit on and it locked up after about 10 minutes with the same error as before. After the reboot I went into the service menu and ran the self test 'until fail' and the test ran for 30 minutes without issue. I also ran through the self calibration once more. It's now been powered on for a few hours without any problems or locking up and all functions 'seem' to be working as expected. Thoughts? Would something like this be caused by a battery issue? That seems like an easy fix but if it's something deeper, I'm not sure if I'd want to chance it. Thanks! Jay

New Customs Duties on Imports to the USA, regarding CondorAudio Tekscope Kits
13
I've had a couple of enquiries from US members here, requesting clarity on the new Customs Duties - which may or may not be applicable on my 24xx series Tekscope kits, which are shipped from here in Jerusalem, Israel. For PERSONAL imports, which is EXACTLY what these are, when you buy the kits from me, there is what's called in Government language, a "De Minimus" level of US$800. That means that any PERSONAL import (in this case, up to 3 kits) from Israel to the USA is EXEMPT from US Customs Duties, when the value is less than US$800, and 17% when the value is more than US$800. Commercial imports (which these kits are not, unless you buy a number of kits for a commercial enterprise) from Israel are taxed at 17% from the first Dollar, irrespective of the value. So, the bottom line is that if you (a US Resident) buy 1 or 2 kits from me, valued at about $70 each, then you are exempt from the new US Customs Duties. I hope this helps to clarify the issue! OT: Wanted a willing assistant to buy an item from US eBay and ship it to the UK
3
There's an item on US eBay that I can't purchase because the vendor blocks non-US buyers. Is there someone who's willing to purchase it for me ($200), and ship to the UK using a reputable courier (UPS/Fedex/???) If yes, please contact me off list... The item should fit in a package about 8" x 6" x 4" and weigh about 1lb. or less. I'd like to keep shipping cost down, so if you have a contract with a shipper that would be even better. If the option to pay UK tax and duty at shipping end is available that might be good (depending on costs). Please contact me off list to arrange mailto:david.partridge@... Cheers, David

sc504 Ghost Images
9
Greetings, I have 2 SC504 scopes. I have done a lot of restoration work on both these units. They are both working now, but I am not satisfied with the trace having ghost. Please take a look at the photo I posted some days ago. At that time I had 1 SC504, since then I have bought another one. BOTH of these scopes display EXACTLY the same ghost trace. When I bought the second SC504 I thought I would have the chance to swap out the CRTs. /g/TekScopes/photo/300558/3883505?p=Created%2C%2C%2C20%2C2%2C0%2C0 Thanks for the responses. Barrr

Tek user comments
3
Hi all, I have created a new photo album called "Tek User Comments". It's for interesting or amusing comments found written in Tek manuals or as graffiti on equipment. I started it off with a "cry from the heart" obviously written by a frustrated technician who had to calibrate a 7T11. Enjoy! Morris

Looking for TDS784A LV power supply schematic
4
Good Morning All: Got a 784A where the PSU is bad (this model: https://jvgavila.com/tds524a_6.jpg) one of the capacitors has leaked and may be exploded to the point where the fiber glass weaving of the PCB is swollen and exposed. It may be the +5V @22A supply. Since these are large PCB traces, not to many are destroyed, I may attempt to repair the area, having the schematic would help. Thanks José

fitting new 'sleepy eye' power indicator to 2465 'scope?
7
Hi All I have a Tek 2465 which has a small fault I am hoping to repair. This is the 'sleepy eye' power indicator on the front of the 'scope. The power switch itself works fine; but the indicator shows the high-vis 'on' state even when power off. It's a small fault but I would like to sort it. I have managed to find what I think is the replacement part. I had hope it was going to be straightforward to fit it to the end of the shaft running from the front panel to the switch; but having taken the outer 'sleeve' of the 'scope off, it looks like there is going to be more work to get access than I thought. I have stripped this scope down before (I 'recapped' it a few years ago) but I have forgotten most of the order in which I need to do things. Any pointers as to what I should do next? Thanks, Jon N

Help with 2465B failing display please...
13
I have a nice 2465B that I bought as being fully restored and recapped (I’ve not opened it up yet but have no reason to doubt) that only has about 460 hours on it. I bought it back at the end of the summer but have only put maybe an hour and a half on it since; I turned it on a couple of days ago and it had a perfect display then suddenly everything disappeared to a diffuse glow off the right side of the screen (UL to photo album "2465B screen issue") After about 5 minutes it snapped back to being correct and stayed that way for another 30 minutes until I turned it off. I turned it on yesterday and it worked perfectly for about 15 minutes then went back to the fuzzies and has not returned to normal yet. Note there is no gradual transition between states, it is as far as I could tell instantaneous. When the display was working it had a perfect, sharp image and passed all self-tests. The problem is obviously (???) in the CRT/display circuitry, but I have not opened it up yet to check anything – I was hoping to find someone that might be more familiar with these units prior to starting. Any hints and advice are very much welcome.

horz output FETs in 2245?
4
I was given a 2245 recently which of course doesn't work too well. Investigation reveals that Q805 and Q806, in the horizontal right plate output stage, are cold to the touch. The service manual, section 6.2 (page 6-19) says, The MOSFET output transistors (Q801 and Q802 left plate-- Q805 and Q806 right plate) run hot. If either side is cold, it is defective. So, that's me and now I need to find a couple of these VDMOS FETs, which seem to have become quite rare. They are Tek P/N, 151-1211 VN1316N2 N-Channel VDMOS FET, 160V, 250mA, 40 ohm 151-1212 VP0116N2 P-Channel VDMOS FET, 160V, 250mA, 25 ohm Has anyone solved this problem with a modern replacement pair? and have suggested substitutes? These are in TO-39 package which adds additional challenge but I suppose TO-220 or equiv could be made to fit. Of course, the real thing would be great too if there is a source. Thanks for any leads! Updated SG505

This is an interesting article about "Paul" building a modern day version of the Tek SG505. https://hackaday.com/2025/03/29/recreating-the-analog-beauty-of-a-vintage-tektronix-oscillator/ Here's the link to "Paul's" DIY electronics blog on it where you can keep abreast of his progress (as of early March he had prototype PCBs but was missing some parts). https://www.paulvdiyblogs.net/2025/03/diy-build-of-tek-sg505.html

Skirt lettering for scope knobs
14
Greetings! I need to re-letter the skirts for some of my scope knobs. Has anyone done that here? I am thinking that black vinyl reversed letters on transfer stock would work. I found a few sites that provide that service, but I am not sure if they can deal with the small size that would be required. Not sure if a design tool is available online. Other suggestions are welcomed! Thanks, Barry
