looking for LEMO power supply jack (ERA.OS.304.CLL) 6
Wondering if anyonewho has a "spares" 465, 475, or 485 would be willing to pull a couple of the LEMO power jacks from the back (the four pin jackused to power Tek probes that use +/-15VDC) for me. I want to build a stand alone power supply so I can use some of my power-required probes on my 2465B, which aren't equipped with them. email is K7WXWatqrpdxdotnet or message me here. Thanks! Bill

2755AP - 2nd LO tuning failure when span <= 500 Hz 7
Have had this 2755AP for 10+ years; for the first time in recollection I've needed to use very narrow span width (to inspect output of a HP synthesizer). Frequency being inspected is 1000 MHz. When span is set to 500 Hz/div, I get occasional "Tuning failure 2nd LO". When span is set to 200 Hz or 100 Hz/div, the error messages are more frequent but not continuous. The error message does not appear at power-up self-test. I used Shift 0 3 to access "2ND LO DIAGNOSTIC AID". Doesn't appear I can post the photo here, but this is the displayed info: TUNE VOLTS NOMINAL=0.01V DAC SET = 0.19V 2ND LO FREQ DESIRED = 2.182.000GHZ COUNTED = 2.182.099GHZ OFFSET FREQ DESIRED = 18.000 000MHZ COUNTED = 17.900MHZ OFFSET SETTING ACCURACY 294.912KHZ The verbiage in the service manual (volume 1, page 6-12, section titled "TUNING FAILURE - 2ND LO" includes the text "The offset setting accuracy is the maximum permitted difference between the actual and desired offset frequencies. The setting process ends when the difference becomes less than or equal to this value. The tolerance depends on frequency span and band." I'm puzzling over what this is trying to tell me. Also I believe the analyzer has a built-in back-up battery which has not been touched in at least the 10 years I've had the unit here. Does the back-up battery store some calibration coefficients that could have been lost? There has been no error message related to back-up battery specifically. Thanks! Dave

Tek 577 sells for $256 on eBay 38
I saw this 577 Curve Tracer show up on eBay and it sold for $256. Not sure if that power-up trace indicates an issue (not having had or operated a curve tracer, I don't know what the power-up trace should look like). Following-on to conversations in this forum about the the 576, I've been keeping my eyes out for a 576. Is there a significant difference between the two? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Tektronix-577-Transistor-Curve-Tracer-Guaranteed-not-DOA/112978741256?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649

Like to say hello and ask a question about my Tektronix 465 ocsilloscope 18
Hello all, I’ve been searching for repair information regarding a Tektronixs 465 oscilloscope and found this interesting website. So, I just registered and like to introduce myself. I’m Wilfred, 62 years old and living in the Netherlands. My interests are electronics, in particular restoring the good old tube televisions and radio’s, Oldtimer cars and general technical things. Recently I found a Tektronix 465 scope in a fairly good shape, with some issues though, but in a working condition. The 100:1 attenuator on channel B needed replacement, capacitor C1552 as well. Anyway, at some point I noticed that the beam was intermittent blurry due to the astigmatism. Astigmatism could be adjusted but not within reach of the potentiometer. It was even so that the scope reacted strange when I turned the potentiometer to one side, the illumination of the small light bulbs went too dark and also the beam disappeared. Voltage on the grid seems to be okay, 0-110 V depending on adjustment. I’m afraid that the picture tube has an shortage issue between grids, but like to know from the members experience if this would be he case indeed. Thanks a lot for any reply and have a great day ! Wilfred

Salvage yard rescue: Tektronix TU-50. Some questions from a non-tech 10
Hey everyone, I was pointed in the direction of this group from the Tektronix subreddit. Like the title says I don't have a formal background in EE or repairs, just some modest restorations of tape machines and other audio equipment. Apologies if I say something glaringly incorrect lol So basically, I frequent a lot of e-waste recycling type places here in the Bay Area and today I spotted this vintage Tektronix unit next to the dumpster at one of these spots. I asked the cashier if I could take it instead, which apparently required a small transaction for their records. So $5 later I'm driving home with a TU-50 in the back seat Now what I was expecting was that the internals would already have been more or less parted out already and that I'd reuse the chassis for a project, but when I took a look inside I was floored. The entire 70+ tube complement, original selenium rectifiers, coils, ect were untouched. The only thing missing seemingly was the accessory that plugs into the sine wave gen section, a single knob in square wave section that I replaced in the meantime, and also the cage that's supposed to hold up the fan has an issue I haven't looked at. I'm by no means set up or experienced enough to test complicated tube equipment like this so I can't report on that front unfortunately. From what I've gathered, this was a low production one-stop shop for calibrating oscilloscopes that was only used internally by Tektronix during production in the 60s-70s? This one's no. 248 I really don't have the heart to tear down a well preserved piece of tech history like this. I mean even among the other pre-IC Tek equipment I've opened up, the point-to-point layout and construction is just artful. The row of 50 tubes upside down in the frequency division(?) section kept bringing to mind a flock of bats hanging from the ceiling of a cave or something similar So then, what's the deal with these units? Are they well known among Tek fanatics? Are they still relevant for current day technicians who restore vintage scopes? Are there many collectors interested in test equipment like this that never had a public production run? I wouldn't even know where to start in terms of price, as there's seemingly no record of one being listed on ebay. Would it be better to hold on to for when I inevitably make the descent into building a proper amateur bench setup? Very curious to hear from y'all, thanks! Also, is there a good way to attach photos? My first post came back saying no attachments

Used TDS520D Price? 4
I have a TDS520D ( 2 channel, 500Mhz, 2GS/sec) that I am planning to bring to a local flea market to sell. I'm trying to figure out a reasonable asking price. Doing a Google search returns a very wide range of asking prices. It boots up fine and the self-test is good. Everything on it seems to work fine but haven't verified the floppy drive or printer port are working, but I have no reason to believe that they aren't. Looking for recommendation on a reasonable asking price. Thanks, Dale

Identify TDS640A 'hackable' options via serial number? 11
Hi Teksperts, Is it possible to identify which options are locked within a Tektronix TDS640A from the serial number? I understand that many options are present but 'locked' from access on lower spec models and are unlockable with a hardware/software 'hack'? I am particularly interested in the FFT math function... I am aware that there is often an extra 'sticker' on the rear of the instrument declaring enabled options like (1F floppy drive) etc but is there a database that explains what hidden options are available? Secondly:- Does anyone know if the VGA output displays in colour even if the oscilloscope is shipped with a monochrome screen (and if VGA colour), can the screen be substituted for a colour LCD like the "CRT and shutter" swap previously described in this forum? Thanks Dave

2784 5
Hi all, I am repairing a Tektronix 2784. Therefore i'm searching for the Processor ExtenderBoard with the SerialPort or a Circuit Diagram for this. I know it's a 85C30 Dual Serial Interface from Zilog and it uses &0100 to &010F to communicate. Thank you for help. That's the first Time I'm using groups. Juergen

Tek 2235 Q944 Equivalent-squished horizontal 4
Thanks in advance. The squished horizontal is due to low voltage on the 8.6V--in fact all the DC voltages are low by about 15%. (I have read all the 2235 power supply problems and got the schematics in large format.) I have extensively probed the power section before the CRT HV section. i have replaced some caps. When i unplug Q9070 the voltages are fine so i am looking in the section the follows the mosfet-bottom of the schematic and Q908. VR943 is flaky and it is connected to Q944 which the table says is a SI NPN 625MW, TO-92, Manu part # is TO7391E2-this is a pretty general description! Before i replace the VR943 i want to check Q944. i (think) equivalents may be MPSA42, MPSA55, MPSA14, BC337, BC547B. Can anyone definitively state the proper equivalent?

5B44 Dual Timebase parts - knobs wanted! 6
Hi all, I have a rather sad 5B44 with broken timebase knobs. My copy of the service manual is a not a clear enough scan to tell for sure which part numbers these are so I cannot give specific references. The knob(s) are concentric and have skirts with the sec/div marked on them - or would have if it still had them. Can anyone help with identifying the correct part numbers please? Does anyone have a non functioning 5B44 with intact knobs they would sell for parts or part out themselves please? Or does anyone know where to look for these parts? I have been looking on fleaBay intermittently but not much luck esp. with not knowing the exact part numbers I need. Thanks and kind regards, Daniel

P6610 physical measurement amplifier 8
In my collection of probes, I have a P6610 physical measurement amplifier and three P6610 pressure transducers. I don't have any documentation and a search of the usual sources has come up empty. Wondering if anyone here knows anything about this probe or, better yet, has some documentation they would be willing to share. Thanks - Bill

2430A no display 15
Hi everyone. Hoping that someone might have encountered this before. So after the 492 repair, I picked up a nice, clean 2430A which was dead. Including the Rifas, the power supply board had 10 completely failed caps and a couple or three toasted resistors, which once replaced gave the scope life once more. /g/TekScopes/photo/301027/3891759?p=Taken%2C%2C%2C50%2C1%2C0%2C0 All the LV rails are present, although uncalibrated. I've have a look over the boards for obvious damage and tested many caps and semi-conductors for shorts, as well as reseated the socketed IC's and cleaned the contacts on the hybrids. So far no difference. The issue is, that once the scope is turned on, the scale illumination lights up and the scope clicks through the start-up, /g/TekScopes/photo/301027/3891763?p=Taken%2C%2C%2C50%2C1%2C0%2C0 however nothing appears on the display, until there's a beep, and then the screen glows off to the right hand side. /g/TekScopes/photo/301027/3891765?p=Taken%2C%2C%2C50%2C1%2C0%2C0 No control button or knob makes any difference whatsoever. If I remove jumper J100, /g/TekScopes/photo/301027/3891766?p=Taken%2C%2C%2C50%2C1%2C0%2C0 then the scope no longer beeps and it just displays a bright dot in the centre of the screen. /g/TekScopes/photo/301027/3891764?p=Taken%2C%2C%2C50%2C1%2C0%2C0 I'm slowly working my way through the manual but if anyone can give a heads-up as to where the problem might be found, then that would be much appreciated. The manual states that the beep occurs when there is a short in the unregulated section of the power supply, yet I have checked all the PSU test points, IC's and caps and nothing there is obviously shorted.

TDS744A flicking 25
Good afternoon, I am a humble electronics hobbyist with some knowledge. I have repaired various household devices, but this time I decided to take on repairing my TDS744A. I bought this scope online from Japan. When I first turned it on, there was no image on the screen, though it did display through the VGA output. A few days later, I turned it on again, and only the front panel LEDs flickered. I have recapped the entire CRT board following all recommendations, and I also replaced the RIFA capacitors in the power supply. Unfortunately, the issue persists. I don’t want to go any further on my own and am reaching out to you for assistance. It would be very helpful if you could advise me on where to look to resolve this issue. I would be very grateful for any suggestions. I’m attaching a video showing the issue. Thank you very much in advance. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/1mch7o60zy11yvqqpv6z2/WhatsApp-Video-2024-11-06-at-12.03.59-AM.mp4?rlkey=ae32pw0fnk7uv4328vmvph6zj&st=u3snnwb9&dl=0
