be sure to get a real zener in before long, i have no idea how long the ¡°transistor fix will last¡±, I¡¯ve used it a few times when i had no zener. but it does have to be reversed

No time to look up schematic. 2n3904 is NPN. Base to emiiter is
a diode in forward direction. To act like a zener, it needs to
be in the circuit reverse biased so current flows into E, out of
