In the RPR (Replaceable Parts Records) 152-0125-00 is listed as a
direct replacement for 152-0214-00 in the 1S1 if it is D304. For D345
152-0093-00 should be used.

It's that little black drop with a tiny red dot on it, isn't it?

That TD252 is a relatively *fast* TD, Rise Time 320ps.
The Valley Point Terminal Capacitance is typicaly 2.8pF, Max. 6pF.
The Capacitance of the STD704 (152-125-00/01) is 18pF max,
(Spec taken from "Tek Common Design Parts Catalog May 1988"
unfortunately there are no data for their risetime, but i suspect
it is about three times slower... because the risetime calculation
for germanium td's is tr~ C/(2*Ip)
(Formula taken from RCA Tunnel Diode Manual (TD-30), Page 36)
So the trigger or other critical timings inside the circuit
maybe will not work properly, at least at higher triggerrates...
I coud help with one TD252, please mail me under

Hi Gregor

Thank you for your quick reply. I've also seen this Tunnel Diodes on ebay
but these are NOT "TD252 (152-0214-00)" !!
Well - what are you going to do? I think you'll find that the TD252 is
unobtainium. Since buying Stan's 4.7mA tunnel diodes, which don't cost a
king's ransom, is better than nothing why not just give it a try?

I live in fear of my 1S2 developing a problem - that has 12 tunnel and back
diodes in it, with lots of obscure currents, ranging from 1mA to 100mA and
just about everything in between.

Who is the Owner/Moderator of this list?
I've noticed that my new posts (since a week or so) have not been
published on the list. On the other way receiving posts works ok.
Actually I'm posting from the web pages of Yahoo... I hope at least
this message appears on the list.

Hello Greyhawk,
That auction is being conducted by Stan & Patricia Griffiths, w7ni, so you
know it is quality product.
Good luck.

Hello!
I'm new to the list and I have quite a trouble with a 1S1 Sampling plug-in
I
bought at ebay! While I was cleaning the plug-in I found a Tunnel Diode
with
one of its "legs" broken off. I unsoldered it just to see that the second
leg was also defective. Does anyone know where to find this tunnel diode?
It
is D304 in the 1S1, Manual says:
D304 152-0214-00 TD252 4,7mA . Is there any source for this diode, or is
there a possible substitution?
Thank you all in advance

Re: 7S/7T Sampling System

Craig Sawyers

Have you considered a 7S14 instead of a 7T11/7S11/Sx. The 7S14 is often
overlooked because it is one of the original 7000 plugins. The 7S14 is a 1
GHz Dual Trace Sampling plugin with the sampling heads and a delayed
timebase all built in to a very easy to use self contained unit.
I don't think that necessarily helps - the full cal procedure for the test
fixures calls for a 7S12; a pulse generator (S52) is used to supply a clean
and fast pulse and the two sampling heads look at the + and - differential
signals coming out. The ampifier compensation is then tweaked to minimise
aberrations. I guess that a 7S14 could be used with a seperate 100ps
pulser, but that would only do for the -00 suffix fixture. The -01
procedure calls for S2's with 4.6GHz bandwidth. I don't have the procedure
for the -02.

There does seem to be some good parts though. If anyone buys it can you let us know if the CRT survived, the shield is battered so it's unlikely but maybe...?

FYI there is a cal fixture plug-in 016-0224-01

will determine how fast the sampling heads need to be.
A 7T11A is much rarer and more expensive than a 7T11. Unless you need the
7T11A version (which is what a 7854 scope needs) there is nothing wrong with
the 7T11. You will need a sampling head to go in the 7S11 such as an
S1/S2/S3/S3A/S4. Note the S1, S3, and S3A only go to 1GHz.

7934

Craig Sawyers

Just spotted 3801330192 on eBay. This seems to be the fairly rare 7934
storage scope, but it comes with a 7T11/7S11/S4 sampling combo (and
7B80/7A18). I have no idea whether the sampler works.

They guy shows a fairly low contrast trace, but there is no information
about what mode he had used to record it - I suspect one of the bistable
modes, but the seller ought to be asked.

Anyway, he wants $400 on buy-it-now and a $275 starting bid.

Newbie to your list...Hi all.
Im new the the audio amp building hobby. Ive built 4 or 5 small tube amps. They all worked well. More or less. So I bought a cheep T922 scope.
Im learning to use it. (sorta of)
But I think I need a function generator...
I paid 50 bucks for the scope.
What should I buy ...ideas etc.
Thank you in advance.

mainframe you can still use a real time amplifier and timebase at the same
time.

Another horror story

Denis Cobley

Had a job about 10 years ago which was much worse.
We were sent a 492 & TM5006 mainframe full of plug-in's.
It have been in a service car - a station wagon (estate in the UK) and the Tech had run into a tree.
The 2 items had become missiles and punched through the tech.
The units were full of bits of meat and congealed blood but the company wanted to recover the instruments.
I had the most unpleasant job of stripping and cleaning every part of the units and getting them operational.
The smell was not good - not something you wanted to be doing just after lunch.
Both instruments are back in service and looking for their next victim.
There is a lesson here for those who do not secure heavy equipment in cars or vans.
I also had one just like the other one - tailgate flew open around a corner and the scope made a break for it!
Had a unit sent back to Tek in Beaverton once - run over by a 747 front wheel - ended up about 1" thick - Tek said it was my problem as once it left them I carried the risk.
Of course the carrier said it was also not their problem either so we had to carry the can on that one with the customer.
Strange things happen in this world.

Denis Cobley
