This is all well timed and awesome information. I was looking at the Pasternack gear because that is what was popping up in searches. Fortunately no money has changed hands yet. Ill be speaking with mini-circuits on the early side of next week.

Hi,

You might want to cull your links a bit, a lot of that extra stuff is tracking information, and the links don't seem to work anyway....
I would suggest to uninstall whatever is causing that, it looks a little nefarious to be hijacking links and your clipboard etc like that...

The correct link is as follows:

Re: Tek 2232 Scope

Thank you. That is a pretty good idea. I think I will do some searching this week, when businesses are open, to see if I can find a compatible replacement connector, male and female. If that fails I think I will go the solder route. With the P9010/J9010 on the other end one will still be able to completely remove the board, once you lift P9010. Looking closely at the W9011/J9011 construction there is a possibility that J9011 was designed not to be removed from the board.
Thanks again for the idea. You've put me back on track to make a non-hack fix if I can't find a connector.

Re: 2465 Calibration

Mark,

I can appreciate the conservative approach to dealing with this device given the limited R/W cycles. There may be something that happens during a calibration sequence in addition to the new changes that would be entered.

Aside from that it looks like you really have to jump through hoops to deal with this device especially if the scope does not have the option 10.

Re: 2465 Calibration

Hi Greg,

I have not seen any en-masse R/E/W refresh behavior for the ER1400 in the 2465. Most (or all) of the ER1400 is read on boot to verify the checksum but that probably doesn't count as a refresh.

The only somewhat periodic writing that's done is saving "soft" front panel settings. By "soft" I mean things that don't have a physical position that can be re-read on power-up such as coupling, cursor visibility, trigger source, etc. Whenever any soft setting is changed, the 2465 sets a timer for 10 seconds. When the user stops making changes and the timer expires, the settings will be written to the ER1400. (An unobvious consequence of this is if you change a setting and turn the scope off in less that 10 seconds, the setting will be gone; that's usually not a big deal or even noticed.)

Tek appears to be fairly conservative in writing to the ER1400 perhaps to maximize the life expectancy.

Mark,

The spec on the GI ER1400 data sheet does indicate that the data is retained
for a minimum of 10 years but does not indicate if that is when the device is
never accessed/written to over that time period. By chance does the 2465
scope processor refresh the contents of the EAROM through a periodic R/E/W
cycle (i.e. each time when powered up, contents altered, etc.)?

I will check them out. I have a mini circuits DC block for the spectrum analyzer that is really nice. Was reasonable priced, As reasonably priced as a DC block well in to the Ghz can be. If that is the case I might be able to sneak it in with the 7510 meter cal this week.

I had to check w/Wikipedia, but it says the open circuit voltage of a mercury cell is 1.35 V, and that they hold their voltage very level for most of their lifetime, so perhaps 1.25 is near end of life. At any rate, we know it's old, since mercury batteries have not been made for several decades.

I wonder how we should dispose of these now?
