Odd 453A on ebay UK
There's a guy listing a 453A scope which appears to be equipped with the CRT from a 453 (6 div vertical, not 8). The current ad is a relistng as it didn't sell last week. I contacted him before the

Re: 3T77 tunnel diodes (again)
Just now I got thinking more about this. The TD is in parallel with about 100R load (47R resistor to 50R input 3S2). That's a heavy load for Ip = 1 mA! The TD wants to switch to its high state at

Re: Tektronix 606A that resists being repaired
That¡¯s disappointing. There is another layer of the onion yet to peel, apparently. The better data sheets show you the test circuit, while others just give you the test currents and leave the rest

Re: To Beeswax or not to Beeswax: that is the question.
Accordians use bees wax mixed with pulverized crushed rosin to increase the melting temp and strength to hold the reed blocks in.? Would this mixture help?

Re: Tektronix 606A that resists being repaired
jrseattle, I wonder if C776 is leaky. That will cause problems if it is leaky. This is a part that can load down the circuit. Those I always replace with a film type. You said a problem could be to

454 fireworks
I received another patient...this time it's a 454 that is outwardly fine (actually it's in superb condition), but had a very serious HV fault. Apparently the previous user was using it and it started

Re: To Beeswax or not to Beeswax: that is the question.
As I recall, it is secreted on trees, scraped off and cleaned somehow. Over the past thirty years or so there have been numerous articles about the origin of shellac in Fine Woodworking magazine. That

Is it secreted? I always thought it was distilled from the bug's shell. -Dave

Re: Provenance of your vintage gear
Probably came from a hamfest, the yellowsheet, gift from friend, etc. Stuff I sold on eBay made it to Hawaii, Japan and Europe.... Also lots of stuff from St Louis migrated eastward. then there is

Re: Tektronix 606A that resists being repaired
Hi, Tom. I received the UF4004 Ultra fast diodes and replaced the 1N4004 diodes in the circuits loading the secondary of transformer T710 but to no avail. The behavior hasn't changed. Just curious

Re: To Beeswax or not to Beeswax: that is the question.
Tektronix was surely a very minor user of beeswax for high voltage transformers. All TV's back in the 50's and 60's used beeswax transformers is far greater quantities and at higher voltages then the

Re: To Beeswax or not to Beeswax: that is the question.
Well, there is shellac, based on a resin secreted by the lac bug. It¡¯s probably not useful for transformers, though. DaveD

As said earlier the shutter is of no concern (somebody here mentioned magenta when I disconnected the shutter: if you look closer there is magenta on the right lower corner, blue on the left and green

Re: To Beeswax or not to Beeswax: that is the question.
Knowing what makes "beeswax" beeswax? Well real Bees wax is the wax from a bee (generally in the US, Apis mellifera), from a gland when the bee is young and taking care of the brood in the hive. The

Re: TDS544A with strange display #photo-notice
In the 90's there were some issues with CRT's on color TDS's showing a blue band on the CRT about a third of the screen area in size and located in the upper region. It didn't look exactly like yours
