Re: Tektronix 606A that resists being repaired
Hi, Tom. I received the UF4004 Ultra fast diodes and replaced the 1N4004 diodes in the circuits loading the secondary of transformer T710 but to no avail. The behavior hasn't changed. Just curious

Re: To Beeswax or not to Beeswax: that is the question.
Tektronix was surely a very minor user of beeswax for high voltage transformers. All TV's back in the 50's and 60's used beeswax transformers is far greater quantities and at higher voltages then the

Well, there is shellac, based on a resin secreted by the lac bug. It¡¯s probably not useful for transformers, though. DaveD

Re: To Beeswax or not to Beeswax: that is the question.
Knowing what makes "beeswax" beeswax? Well real Bees wax is the wax from a bee (generally in the US, Apis mellifera), from a gland when the bee is young and taking care of the brood in the hive. The

Can we use other animal's wax? Maybe caterpillars or wasps?

In the 90's there were some issues with CRT's on color TDS's showing a blue band on the CRT about a third of the screen area in size and located in the upper region. It didn't look exactly like yours

Re: 3T77 tunnel diodes (again)
Rather than fiddle around with driver stages, I decided to try Albert's suggestion of driving the TD directly from the last hex inverter (+5 to anode of TD, cathode to trimpot to TTL output). Somewhat

Okay, I've done a little research on the Tek color shutter system, and it seems to involve not 3 colors, but actually 4 colors: Red, Green, Blue, and White. So the white regions are NOT being

My impression is that potting or coating compounds are ofte a mixture of bee's wax and rosin. Maybe of different waxes. To fill the voids it may be necessary to boil the transformer (or whatever) in

Unfortunately, I don't think you can gracefully remove the filter and really look at the CRT. Assuming that you have three color filters (the older TEK stuff used two), then what happens if you select
