There isn't one of those in the concepts series.

Thank you Wilson!
For the detailed description of what had to come off and how to accomplish it.
The additional information on how many of which IC sockets need to be replaced, and your source for them completes the 577 IC changing document.
Your 577 information will be in the Tekscopes message archive for many years to come, and will help many 577 owners.
Thanks again!

Remove the pulse, step family, step rate, step offset, zero and aid, display and filter buttons by grabbing the sides and carefully pull while rocking left and right. Some buttons can be removed easier than others and unfortunately some buttons will break unfortunately so be patient and careful. I found what broke on my buttons is the clips which grip the black rods to help hold them in place, though they can still go back in and work they are loose and can come out. On the step offset amplitude knob 2 little grub hex screws need to be removed with a 1.5mm allen wrench which worked for me. The step button in the middle of the step knob is secured by a tiny 0.9mm grub screw by the switch the button connects to, just loosen and the step button should slide out with the rod. To remove the horizontal volts division it is the same as the step knob. When you have both knobs off you will need to remove the bushings which you will see a 1/2 nut for both knobs, use a wrench to loosen. When they are loose you will need to find a way to grab the nut on the rear side of the panel. Remove the 2 little bolts holding the 2 transistors in place, you will first need to loosen with a wrench and then note the little insulator pad as not to forget it when reinstalling the screws as well as the insulator pads the transistors are fastened to on the frame. You will need to note the position of all the trim knobs and cables before reinstalling. Once you have the 4 little screws on the board out and the 2 little bolts on the 2 transistors removed and the bushings and buttons removed, grab the board from the back and pull out carefully, it should slide out. Note there are 2 nuts and lock washers that will fall out when you remove the board so be careful not to loose them. When the board is removed note the plastic rods attached at the end of the switches. I used a precision flat head screw driver and carefully pried the 2 ends pulling out and it should slip off. It might be difficult as my case with some plastic rods but I manged to remove them without breaking them.

I had some help with the Artek manuals, you can purchase manuals from their website if you need a manual, I needed the service manual.

Actually, it's missing more than those. Right away I noticed 062-0861-01
(Storage Cathode-Ray Tubes and Circuits) as well as 062-0852-01 (Oscilloscope Cathode-Ray Tubes)
was missing.

Well I already pointed out 062-0861-01, but 062-0852-01 is included in Dennis's set 062-1180-00.

Hi Dennis

The list is missing two:

062-0861-01 Storage Cathode-Ray Tubes and Circuits Chuck Devere
062-0955-00 Television Waveform Processing Circuits Gerald E. Eastman

I'm sure that was just an omission from your comprehensive list ;-)

I'm missing one that was on yours though

I have the -00 but not the -02Craig

Re: Tek 577 IC socket repair

To replace all the IC sockets you will need 4 8pin dip sockets 5 14pin dip sockets and 2 16pin dip sockets. They are all 2.54mm and 7.62mm, mine fit perfectly

I bought mine from Newark
5 x 19M1525 8pin dip
6 x 95M5018 14pin dip
3 x 19M1527 16pin dip

I also got 95Y3988 which is solder flux that worked well for me.

A good desoldering toll is necessary, I used a Hakko FR300 with good results

I just uploaded a paper I wrote explaining how to modify one of these unusual 3 wide TM mainframes into an ordinary TM503. It requires no parts and it takes about an hour to do. It is easy.

Re: Old Tektronix Books

Hi Dave,
I think the "Strain Gauge Measurements" book is actually called, or was renamed, "Transducer Measurements".

I just posted the complete list of books to TekScopes.

Complete List of Concept Series and Measurements Concepts Books

This is the complete list of the Concept Series and Measurements Concepts Books. It includes one that was never published or assigned an internal Tek number. It is listed at the end. I have them all.

062-1244-00 Measurement Concepts Time-Domain Reflectometry Measurements (James H. Strickland, Contribuitions by H. Allen Zimmerman, Gordon Long and George Frye)
062-1246-00 Measurement Concepts Transducer Measurements (Kenneth Arthur, Contributions by William H. (Bill) Verhoef)

062-1247-00 Measurement Concepts Biophysical Measurements (Peter Strong, Contributions by Dorothy Freed )
062-1334-00 Measurement Concepts Spectrum Analyzer Measurements, Theory and Practice (Morris Engleson)
062-1460-00 Circuit Concept Series Oscilloscope Camera Concepts (Will Marsh, Contributions by Maurice J. Merrick and Ben A. Buisman)

Unpublished, The Physiology, History and Concepts of Electrocardiography (Walter A. Peterson)

Finally, this book is technically not part of the series but Tek publish it and it is a fascinating book. I learned more about how to model a transistor from reading this book than all the Transistor Design courses I took in college. And it is easy to read and understand.
062-2841-00 Modeling The Bipolar Transistor (Ian Getreau). It can be purchase from the author. Contact me OFF LIST at dennis at ridesoft dot com for how to buy it.

I think a few of these books were reprinted at a later date by Tek so these reprints may have slightly different Tek part numbers.

Thank you Wilson2115 for the 577 IC socket replacement information!
Could you tell us which PC boards or other major components you did or did not remove from the 577 to? accomplish this task?
Also, what IC sockets did you replace the originals with, and where did you buy them?
Thank you!

This took many hours to perform and that includes breaks. I found that you can't rush this, just be patient and careful.

Tek 5223 parts/donor scope needed

Hi all,
Managed to grab a working (somewhat) benchtop version of one of these scopes, and got it fully operational without cannibalizing my damaged-in-transit rackmount 5223. Was considering parting out the latter but will petition the group for help first.
I need the A2 (Display Adjust/Cal) and A10 (Keyboard) boards (with all pots intact) or the following pots:
311-2042-00 (Qty 1)311-2045-00 (Qty 1)311-1375-00 (Qty 1)311-2046-00 (Qty 2 or 3)
Will also consider a dead 5223 with all boards present.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Why would you add it, when it's not a "Concepts" book? (It's still a
good book, but it should be on a different list.)

The Davmar site has a
complete list with the exception of "Strain Gauge Measurements", which

having all of them is not accurate).
I think that one also predates the "Concepts" series, despite the name.
