Tek user comments
Hi all,
I have created a new photo album called "Tek User Comments". It's for interesting or amusing comments found written in Tek manuals or as graffiti on equipment. I started it off with a "cry from the heart" obviously written by a frustrated technician who had to calibrate a 7T11. Enjoy! Morris |

TDS5034B Software Installation
My TDS5034B boots up with a message that TekVisa is not found. After dismissing the message the scope appears to run normally. Tiring of the nag at bootup I decided to find and install TekVisa. The current versions of this software available on the Tektronix site, V4.1.1 and V5.11.1 both state in their prerequisites that my version of OS, Windows 2K, is not listed. I thought that perhaps because Windows7, 8, and 10 were all included that the installation would be allowed. When the install is attempted the screen shows a notification that it is about to be installed and asks for the user to click "Next". The problem is there is no "Next" to click on displayed. I tried an external monitor thinking that maybe it was a resolution issue but there is no "Next" there either. I cannot scroll the screen in any direction. I changed the resolution of the LCD and re-booted. After that I was able to scroll but the "Next" was still not visible so I reverted back to the native resolution. Any Ideas on how to install TekVisa without clicking the "Next" or how to find the button?
Thanks, Ferrous PS Although there are a lot of bells and whistles on the 5034B I do not like to boot up delay time. I like the color aspects of the display but my TDS460 has slightly better bandwidth, uses standard probes, and powers up faster. |
Re: Skirt lettering for scope knobs
Powerpoint might be a better alternative. It lets you place text at whatever angle you like with whatever font you have installed on your computer.

I recently constructed the graphics for the meter in my Hickok 752A and used Python and the SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) library to produce the lines, arcs, text, etc. The resulting file can be taken into Inkscape and then output to a file format compatible with Powerpoint. From there, it can printed on whatever media you like. I chose to produce a laser-printed water-slide decal. Kind of a long route to take to get there but it was worth it as trying to recreate all those tiny lines at the correct angle, size, position, etc., would be extremely tedious. The meter looks very nice and the scales are accurate as well. Barry - N4BUQ Leo, |
Re: Skirt lettering for scope knobs
Leo,
Your artwork looks great. Thanks for posting the Word file you created. I wasn't aware that Word could be used to place the numeral around the circular skirt in that rotational manner. If you can explain a little about the process to do that with Word, I'd really appreciate learning about that. Cheers, Tom |
Re: Tektronix 2213A CRT question
Hakan,
Thank you. I must have missed your earlier post. I will make a note to update the information on the TekWiki site. DaveD KC0WJN On Mon, Mar 31, 2025 at 05:49 zenith5106 via groups.io <hahi= [email protected]> wrote: On Sun, Mar 30, 2025 at 11:06 PM, Dave Daniel wrote:That Wiki info is incorrect. |

That Wiki info is incorrect. From my previous post (according to manuals and RPR) 154-0838-00 was used only 2213 and 2215. 154-0861-00 was used in 2213A, 2215A, 2235 and 2236. and 2213/15 have 8kV anode voltage while 2213A/15A have 12kV. /H?kan |
Re: Tektronix 2213A CRT question
The service manuals for the 2213 and 2213A are on the TekWiki site and call
out the part numbers for the CRTs. They are both 154-0838-00, so they are the same. DaveD KC0WJN On Sun, Mar 30, 2025 at 16:45 TugboatDave via groups.io <hennessy= [email protected]> wrote: Thanks for the replies, still have no joy on a direct replacement. |
For my 7854 looking for MicroLab I
Hello friends,
I’m looking for the service tools needed for the digital portion my tek 7854: the MicroLab I (067-0892-00), the Diagnostic Test Interface (067-0911-00) and the Diagnostic Memory Board (067-0961-XX). Interested in hiring as well buying them, for troubleshooting an issue that started recently… Tnx in advance! Alberto |

Just to be complete, although most group members probably know this, there
are three Tektronix-related GIO groups: TekScopes (this group) TekScopes2 tm500 DaveD KC0WJN On Sun, Mar 30, 2025 at 12:11 Radu Bogdan Dicher via groups.io <vondicher= [email protected]> wrote: Oh, that's interesting... I had no idea there's a group dedicated to just |
Re: Tektronix 2247A problem. Keep or return?
Thanks again. I'll pull the processor board and have a look at the power supply and replace any diodes marked ZM or ZS.
I'll definitely replace the battery, I think Digikey has the correct one. I'll leave the electrolytics as-is unless I see anything that looks suspect. Had the scope off all night and cold started it in the morning without issues. I'll do this over the next fews days for good measure but thing are looking good at this point. |
Re: Updated SG505
Oh, that's interesting... I had no idea there's a group dedicated to just
the 500 (and I assume 5000) Tektronix plugs and frames. I don't think I've seen a strict enforcement of keeping this group here exclusively on oscilloscopes, but maybe I'm mistaken. Re: Skirt lettering for scope knobs
Leo,
Nice documentation, thanks! It looks like you replaced the skirt. I was actually trying to get the letters on the original acrylic skirt. I wonder if this method would look as good under the original skirt. I thought about that as an option. Thanks for the suggestion. Barry |
Re: Skirt lettering for scope knobs
Hi,
this is how I did it. Using Word to create a circle and put the text in. Files can be found here: /g/TekScopes/files/TekTronix%202235%20V-Div%20skirt%20for%20Transparent%20film.zip Leo |

Just check the power supply diodes for either ZM or ZS markings and replace. And the 3V battery. Should then be done and ready to enjoy. |

Thanks again guys! The 2247A has been running overnight with signals in eachJust replace the 3V battery to get rid of the annoying power up error message and the recalibration routine running every time. You need to lift the main processor board that is on top, and the battery is at one end of the board. To lift the board there are some flat ribbon type conductors and connectors to deal with, but if you are careful and methodical its pretty straight forward procedure. Last time I recall the battery swap can be done by just partially lifting the board, which limits the amount of ribbon cables to deal with. I have a really nice 2245A and enjoy using it and always wanted a 2247A.The 47A is a 45A with additional digital functions (and push buttons), otherwise they are identical scopes. Make sure to check those suspect diodes on the power supply board in both your 45A and 47A scopes. A quick glace should tell you if you need to replace them. The power supply board is in the middle of the lower side, kind of a pain to get it out and even more pain to get it back in due to the connecting pins. But you should be able to read the labels on a couple of diodes without removing the board to make sure you don't have any time bombs sitting in there. If you find voltages and ripple specs are ok I would not even bother recapping unless you see a capacitor that is obviously leaking or bulged up, which I doubt. These 224x scopes if I recall used high quality Mallory or Sprage caps, and I've never bothered to replace any in my 47A, but most definitively had to in my 2465B. Those old caps sometimes even end up measuring better specs than modern equivalent caps (value/ESR). |
