Re: New here with a 2465 to clean up

Patrick,

Thank you for your help. Sorry I wasnt on to answer earlier. but here is what I have found.

The 2465 does not have battery backed CMOS memory. Instead, it has EAROM. An ER1400 to be specific. THAT is a trip down memory lane. The ER1400 is a serial read, serial erase/write 14 bit by 100 word EAROM (Electrical Alterable ROM). The spec sheet says it holds data for ten years without refresh. I found it on schematic sheet 2 of the 2465 Service Manual. I also found these words in the Theory of Operation: "EAROM (electrically-alterable read-only memory) U2008 provides nonvolatile storage for the calibration constants and the power-down front panel settings."

From this I conclude there is only one EAROM (U2008) and there is no battery. BUT calibration data will eventually fade away if it isnt refreshed. So, when everything else is back in order I will probably find a way to force a wirte operation to refresh this data before it ages too far.

Also, the A5 board for the 2465 is this one:
This is exactly like mine.

Your advice has been very valuable in my quest. Thank you. I have yet to build a heat sink for U800 and verify which caps I need to re-cap. But life gets in the way and slows me down.

Hi Mac,

Again, qservice.tv is our friend. See:

In case the link doesn't work, I found the listing for the 2465A A5 board which includes a few photos. You will see the lithium battery with a yellow label. (By the way, when I bought replacements from Mouser, the new batteries were totally black, no yellow label.)

I also looked at the A5 for the 2465 and did not find a battery. Perhaps the repair manual theory of ops might indicate how calibration constants are maintained when the unit is powered down.
Thanks,

I cannot find a lithium battery anywhere in teh scope. Unless it is buried inside a DIP on A5...I will read the calibration procedure to see what they call out for changing ROM values and post back if I find anything.
