I am not quite sure of this since I do not have a 2221a manual either
but besides the bandwidth and lack of delayed sweep, I suspect the
2221 is based on the 2230 design which uses a channel switch to do
analog multiplexing in CHOP and ALT modes before the 20 MS/sec ADC
while the 2221a is based on the 2232 design which uses two separate
100 MS/sec ADCs followed by digital multiplexing in CHOP and ALT
modes.
While I really get a lot of use out of my 2230, the analog
multiplexing makes DSO CHOP mode a little weird.

Is it just me or is the service manual for a 2221a scope next to impossible to find? I have been searching google all evening and have only found the 2221 service manuals for the 60 MHz scope and not the 2221a 100 MHz scope.
