I've only had to do a re-stuff once or twice on these 950 uF, 200V computer style caps, for 7904 long ago. They are easy to take apart by un-crimping the can from the base, then installing fresh, newer, larger (in uF, but smaller physically), better performance units inside. I've junked out a few others, and even set aside spares-in-advance - some empty cans and bases plus fresh caps to go inside if ever needed. If you don't like the idea of fitting a new cap in the original can, you can just pick a modern type that's smaller, and tack it in, but then you need to support it mechanically. The fitting is trivial otherwise. I think it's easiest and best to re-use the cans.
For compatibility of the aluminum base terminals to solderable cap leads, you can easily drill through and tap the bottoms of the 10-32 holes to 4-40 or whatever smaller threads in the remaining material, then add solder lugs inside for attachment.
