Re: Need Help with Ticking 7704A LVPS

Barry,

Radials to replace axial types is easy. The leads are bent at right angles to the cylinder with the top of the condenser facing up. The leads are then bent to fit in the holes then soldered. There are times where the condenser is near parallel to the board when the height is more than a case will allow. The leads are still bent out the same way, the body is in a different position. An example of this style of mounting is on the regulator boards in a 453/4 series. For replacing the 10mfd (I used 47mfd 25V ULD types in mine) decoupling axials in the 7B series time bases and some others, the negative lead is straight out while the positive is bent facing the opposite end and soldered. That keeps the profile low while having a better quality installed. Axials are not low ESR and have as long of a life as the radial types. This is for electrolytics. The series I mentioned to you are ones that are best in quality in Nichicon. I prefer ULD and LGR/LGZ if it is made in that series. The datasheets will show what I am talking about. Other good ones they have are UCS and UCY. Supplies that are high frequency like and operate better with low ESR types. What I suggest is what I found to work the best. I am not demanding anyone must do what I say. You do what you want with your property.
