Hi Adrian and Colin,
The only time I ever saw Deane Kidd get mad was when I mentioned the Metric System to him.
I realized (after I did it) that it would have been a nightmare for Deane if Tektronix decided to switch its parts inventory to from the English / American System to the Metric System. I made myself a mental note to myself never bring that subject again.
It would involve millions of parts and thousands of suppliers. For several years Tek would have to stock parts in both systems. Customers would be ordering spare parts for years to come and at the time Tek was famous for their product support so Tek would be expected to supply both versions of their parts. They would also have to support instruments that were in production with the English System and right through the transition to the Metric System.

I just checked a couple of the smaller screws in a Cart 3 (made in
Holland) and they are indeed 8-32 UNC with a Phillips head
Deane was right in my view too, but then I was brought up on BA, BSW and BSF threads.....

I don't even think that Guernsey and Heerenveen used metric, despite the geographical logic of doing so.
