ELT Antenna Mounting location INSIDE fuse?

Hello everyone, did some searching but could not find any pictures..? In preparation for covering the fuselage I am working through all of the wiring.. I would like to mount my ELT antenna (ACK E-4 125.5/406) inside the fuselage behind the baggage area. Can any of you post some photos of a good mounting location??
?
As usual, thank you for all for your help!
Andy

Andy, I have attached a photo of how I did it in my Buttercup. There is just a small bracket to hold the antenna. It is mounted on an aluminum frame that is the support for the baggage area.
?
I know that this installation actually works.

Make sure you'll have access to the antenna after covering.?

Andy,
I mounted my antenna very similar to where and how Bill mounted his.? My actual ELT is located on the diagonals just below and to the rear where Bill has his antenna mounted.

Be sure to have an adequate ground plane when utilizing a vertically polarized antenna.?
Approximately 18¡±. ?
It doesn¡¯t need to be square, or even rectangular. ? A single, well grounded wire (also known as a ¡°counterpoise¡±) will suffice. ?

In Bill¡¯s example, I¡¯m sure the aluminum bracket is attached to a metal (aluminum or steel) baggage floor framework, providing an adequate radiating ground plane.?

Where NOT to put ELT and antenna, works great but almost inaccessible for an old man............?

Attached is where I mounted my elt! It's directly under my baggage floor and just behind the passenger seat which allows easy access by remove seat only. I was thinking about putting an access door in the baggage flooring or on the fuselage side, but for my size, I have plenty of access to do everything. I did locate and area by the firewall to allow battery jump and charge so i don't have to get in there to do this. Not in the picture, I welded a tab just aft of the elt to mount my internal elt whip antenna!

Be aware of any ¡°legal requirements¡± specified by the Mfr or TSO if you decide to deviate. ?Some ELT¡¯s I¡¯ve installed had some very specific mounting requirements for the box itself and the antenna - the latter usually on the outside of the OML, to the rear and upper surface, and vertically oriented. ?While it¡¯s unlikely that you will get ramp checked, it¡¯s always good to have an answer at the ready if you are questioned

I did mount mine per instructions but it sure made it hard to service..........

Most aircraft today are built using electrically conducting materials ( aluminum or carbon fiber composite).
?
In a crash, it is possible (likely?) the antenna will be sheared off, rendering the elt useless.
?
Are least it is a plausible reason to mount the antenna inside.

I had numerous problems?with my ELT going off and with discussions with the ELT vendor it was determined to be spacing between my ELT and transponder. I had to have a minimum of 2 feet. This includes coax and antennas.?
I have the ACK model E-04 ELT and a Trig TT22 transponder.
I finally had to mount the ELT in the baggage?compartment and the transponder?back near the tail. ELT antenna is under the baggage?compartment and the transponder antenna is at the rear of the plane.?
Sounds stupid but I don't have the ELT kicking off anymore and getting phone calls from the satellite monitoring folks asking if I am still around.?

Thanks everyone for the info and pics. I have decided to mount mine like Bill's behind the baggage compartment. I made a small aluminum bracket which uses the cross bar at the back of the luggage area as support. It was the only area where I could get a solid mount using the welded tab as the baggage floor and wall angle supports are super lightweight and flex. Pics attached...?

This is how and where I ended up mounting my elt after having several problems with my elt going off when my ADSB was on. ELT manufacture said to mount it as far from the transponder and ADSB antenna as possible, ?but the elt still kept going off. Transponder antenna was on the belly under the passengers seat, ADSB was just aft of the pilot on the belly. Tried several different things suggested by Free Flight, the manufacturer of my ranger lite ADSB, but as a last resort told me to swap the ADSB and transponder leads to the antennas. That worked. ELT is mounted just aft of the baggage compartment and the antenna plate is grounded to the fuselage frame. Probably wouldn¡¯t want to watch a 74 year hold man crawling back into that tail to attach that mount ?

Had my fuselage open to work on the ELT and took this picture that might help understand how I mounted my ELT.? The "alert cartridge" with the beeper in it is mounted on my gas tank under the panel and of course the test switch/activation switch unit is mounted in the panel.? ?I had some interesting learnings today about the ELT battery which I will post on a separate thread.? Please read it if you have an ACK 406 ELT
