Gaugamela Battle Report

Gents,
?
Please find link to recent blog post wherein I attempt to describe how I went about refighting Gaugamela with Tactica II.?
?
Thanks to Doug and Jacob for weighing in with initial post on subject. Appreciate the input.?
?
Anyway, here is the link:
?
Cheers,
Chris

Chris,
?
Thanks for posting your account of the Gaugemala scenario. It's interesting how the Tactica 2 rules can be tweaked for a particular scenario.
?
There is always the paradox of playing a game versus simulation of the historical record. The former is interesting and fun but the latter is more 'educational'; perhaps|!
?
I like the way you used the Generals' characteristics.
?
Did you use the Companion's special (column) rule? This makes them very powerful.
?
Arty has also extended the 'Screen' rules to Scythed Chariots in a draft, optional addendum.
?
Thanks again. You really put a lot of effort in to these refights. Much appreciated.
?
Cheers,
Simon

Cheers Simon,?
?
Good to "hear" from you. Thanks for taking the time to read and reply/remark.?
?
I completely agree. I do suppose that my deployment could be cast as more simulation. The resulting game, although not played to conclusion, was fun, interesting, and educational, as you say.
?
Thanks for the vote of confidence re the general's abilities. I am sure there is room for tinkering here.
?
Two of the three Companion units were in column. Here is another example of simulation (figure scale and numbers) bumping up against play. These cavalry did not do all that well during the wargame.
?
Scythed chariots are an interesting topic . . . I would be interested in seeing that addendum.
?
You are very welcome. Thanks for taking the time to read and remark upon my amateur efforts.
?
Good health and good gaming,
Chris

Chris,
Cheers. The Scythed Chariot Screen is pretty much the same rule as the Elephant Screen. 'Point and shoot' with individual models spaced one 'base width' apart.
Cheers
Simon

Very good, Simon. Thanks. I should have deduced that . . .

Sorry for the delay. I find myself a bit preoccupied with scythed chariots at the moment.?

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks for the report, was a fun read!

I also liked adding the additional perks or rules for the generals. For doing battles during the following Diadochi period I think adding abilities to some of the names figures would be interesting and fitting.
?
Also for your point on scythed chariots, I believe it mentions in Tactica 2 that after their first melee scythed chariots are removed from the board??

Greeting Jacob M. -?

Thanks for taking the time and for the kind comments.?

Agreed, I think a modicum of amendments or scenario rules are appropriate, as long as both sides agree. Being a solo wargamer, this is rarely a problem area ;)

You may be right re the scythed chariots. I will have to double check. I seem to recall that they stay engaged until defeated or until the enemy is done, then they are removed. This could take a few turns with a scythed chariot unit having 3 or 4 "models."?

In exchanges with Simon Watson, a well known figure in this group and over in the SoA, I understand that scythed chariots are also able to deploy as a screen - just like the elephants.?

Thanks again for taking the time. Appreciated.

Cheers,
Chris
