Re: Super Sunfish ?
For a Sunfish it depends on if you are using the stock original board or the newer white foam cored board, as the newer one is 3-3/4" longer. Either way, no more than 4-1/2 feet, I think. You could

Re: Super Sunfish ?
If the Horseshoe lake you are refering to is the one near Granite City Illinois. I hear that it's just too shallow and full of stumps for sailing. I am interested in sailing the Mississippi at Alton

Re: Super Sunfish ?
It's a state or county lake. I know of one double boat ramp. 50hp. motor limit. It may be too shallow. How deep do you need for a sunfish? Or is it people just sail else where. We do have Creve Coeur,

Re: Super Sunfish ?
Hi Shawn, Ha, ha, ha, LOL I grew up in that region. Up State near Chicago, but I've sailed Creve Coeur Lake and Carlyle Lake many years ago. To keep the daggerboard held firmly, glue a couple of

Re: Super Sunfish ?
Maybe Horseshoe Lake is shallow and too shallow to sail? Or, access is restricted and there's nowhere to launch unless you own land on it? In Michigan it's an unending problem. Lots of lakes, tough to

Re: Super Sunfish ?
So you live in Belleville? Tell me, why is it nobody ever sails on Horseshoe lake? Seems like a nice lake. I've thought about trying it sometime. wrote: suck it up! Lake in Carlyle, IL and house.

Re: Super Sunfish ?
Ok, Ok, Ok, If an 85 lb. kid can do it then I'll stop whining and suck it up! I am a 31 year old 225 lb. man, I can handle it right? ;-) Thanks for the info about using the daggerboard for leverage. I

Re: Super Sunfish ?
Sounds like it's time for you to get it over with! Capsizing, that is. An 85 pound kid can right a Sunfish alone. Adults have no problem. I don't know where you're sailing, but as soon as the water is

Re: Super Sunfish Group?
Gail, I'm guessing it's a normal feeling for a rookie, but it doesn't change the fact that I'm terrified of capsizing the boat. I have no doubt in my swimming or water survival skills. I am also

Re: Super Sunfish Group?
The hiking strap will help you keep it flat while going up wind and that's what you want to be able to do. If you can hook your ankles/feet in and lean out with better leverage you won't get too far.

Re: Super Sunfish Group?
I think I will stick with the "standard" Super Sunfish Rig and hone my skills on it. My buddy has a "regular" Sunfish and I am able to sail it whenever I want. As for the racing daggerboard and hiking

Re: Super Sunfish Group?
The Super Sunfish mast fits into a standard Sunfish hull. The Super Sunfish rig is a secondary rig that was sold to "high tech" the Sunfish. So, our friend with a Super Sunfish just needs to find a

Re: Super Sunfish Group?
Gail, Any idea if the standard mast fits the Super Fish mast step? It appears from the Super Sunfish diagrams that if the mast fits the standard rig will fit right onto the Super hull. Wayne

I don't really need a new sail. I am fortunate that mine is in great shape. I was just wondering if there were any other colors available and/or if mine was a "racing" sail or not. It seems to gather

Re: Super Sunfish Group?
Hi Shawn, The Super Sunfish is a rare breed. Not to many photos or references exist in today's literature. All the boats I have found in books or on the Net show a white sail with the SS Sunfish logo.
