Re: Preventing sheet from sagging
Consider taping (or otherwise attaching) a few small sections of small diameter PVC pipe along the boom.? Smooth and sand the inside edges to allow the sheet to move freely through it and reduce any potential wear.? Should be super easy and cheap

Re: Super sunfish halyard
I sold my Super rig a long time ago, but Kent's description rings a bell. -----Original Message-----

I got a few more pictures of the mast from a craigslist seller, and based on the rigging instructions there might be a line halyard with a wire leader at the head end, with a little ball or clip that could be pulled over the sheave and then set in the little notched tab at just under the sheave by pulling the halyard aft.?
The CL seller uses a regular piece of line with a bridle clip on the end, and reccomends getting line that is pre stretched, high load (like dyneema) because the downhaul exerts a lot of force on the halyard.

See attached photo of mast head.

Brilliant solution, happens to me all the time. I thought it was just me. Thanks Kent and Eric. Tom ----- Forwarded Message ----- efrank@... [sunfish_sailor]? To:sunfish_sailor@... Those are called sheet hangers.? Intensity Sails sells them, order 2.
You can also make something similar with duct tape. ----- Forwarded Message ----- Tom Leone tgleone@... [sunfish_sailor]? To:sunfish_sailor@... When I tack and the boom swings around, sometimes the sheet sags down between the two pulleys on the boom and snags on the back of my life jacket.? What is the proper terminology for these things, and does anyone have suggestions for a DIY solution? |
Re: Minifish II rigging attempt .. advice wanted
You haven't gotten many responses, so I will try.
?I think that your rigging looks OK. Not sure about the clew; I would expect a hook of some kind, but what you have may work just fine. How did the boat sail with that set up; any problems?
Although you have rigged it properly, I don't like the mainsheet cleated because it increases the chance of a capsize. Just my opinion, of course.
I haven't seen a Minifish II ever, but did have a Super Sunfish at one time. The riggings seems similar as I recall.

So I had picked up a Minifish II that was missing most of it's rigging and lines. I'm a novice at this, I picked up a few blocks etc on eBay and bought some lines and I had it all sitting for a while. I'm trying to out it all together now and have a bunch of my rigging pictures I'm hoping you all can advise me on.
I'm not able to post photos directly here from my phone so I have created a Google photos album. https://photos.app.goo.gl/yPkWCKQp9kQWLZc48 My cheek block was broken I will probably get some rivets and try that for the one in the pictures but thought this may work too. Thank you all so much for keeping this great resource going. James |

Re: Super sunfish halyard
That is interesting, I have never seen a Super before. Also interesting is the ad itself, from Oostburg, WI. Home of the Oostburger, which is a hamburger patty topped with a bratwurst on a Sheboygan hard roll. Great on the grill. Happy 4th of July everyone! Tom

Super sunfish halyard

开云体育I am looking for pictures and/or instructions on what the halyard is supposed to look like on the super sunfish. I already downloaded the rigging instructions,? and they are not very helpful. I recently purchased a super sunfish,? and it is missing the halyard.? Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone. |

Re: A SWEET WI REGATTA ---MAKE IT A VACATION!
At Lake Norman Yacht Club, home of Sunfish Fleet 532, we are planning to add a "Fun" element to our Annual Board Bash Regatta. We have over 40 Sunfish at our club on only one or two of us are serious racers, members of the Sunfish Assn. There are many who just like to sail around, so we're thinking of adding a "Poker Sail" or some such event.? Tom?

We suggested to the LP folks a few months back that there be a regional effort to put together some mess abouts, same day same way kind of events, just like minded Sunfishers gathering or go crazy and invite all LPers. There are about 1200 people in the Class Association but there are over 400,000 Sunfish out there, goofing off. LP just sponsored the Connecticut River Race early June, would be fun to see a few more events like that. |
