Re: A SWEET WI REGATTA ---MAKE IT A VACATION!
We suggested to the LP folks a few months back that there be a regional effort to put together some mess abouts, same day same way kind of events, just like minded Sunfishers gathering or go crazy and invite all LPers. There are about 1200 people in the Class Association but there are over 400,000 Sunfish out there, goofing off. LP just sponsored the Connecticut River Race early June, would be fun to see a few more events like that.

Re: A SWEET WI REGATTA ---MAKE IT A VACATION!
开云体育That's a darn good idea! ? If there are a few folks who have never raced before someone more experienced could spend a few minutes with them on shore explaining rules, starting procedures and tactics. If the weather is nice, and not too challenging, they could start a few minutes behind the normal racing crowd, on the starting line that wouldn't be too crowded, and maybe take a shorter course around the buoys to get some experience. ? This is a complicated sport and once someone has just a little bit of personal instruction things fall into place pretty quickly. ? Best regards, ? Mark ? ? From: sunfish_sailor@... Sounds like a fun event, would love to have more events posted like this in here. Add to the events calendar. I've been thinking that the race folks could figure out a way to add on a few fun sails where recreational folks could come out, maybe take a few tries at the course or just a fun day sail. |

A SWEET WI REGATTA ---MAKE IT A VACATION!
开云体育A SWEET REGATTA ---MAKE IT A VACATION! ? This coming Saturday, in the north woods of Wisconsin, there’s a sweet little regatta on Carpenter Lake (Eagle River, Wisconsin). ? The Hanselman’s hospitality is unparalleled. ? It’s been rainy and stormy all over the Midwest but the forecast both days next weekend, up in Eagle River, are bright sun, cool temperatures in the mid-70s, low humidity and a north wind at about 7 mph in the afternoons. Certainly worth the drive up from Chicago or over the UP from Michigan. Take an extra day or two and make it a real vacation. There’s lots of activity in the area for non-sailors in the family. ? Please contact Dave Hanselman, via the link below on the Sunfish class website, for the complete scoop including housing options. ? Mark ? PS:? If you have any questions about participating in this this or any other Midwest regatta please feel free to email me back. If you haven't regularly raced, or haven't raced at a regatta, we will all help you get up to speed on rules and tactics. These are very friendly affairs. ? Mark A. Kastel 608-625-2042 ? |

Three free hulls!
Hi all, I have three hulls that need a little love.? All of them are missing at least some of their hardware. I already have 4 Sunfish in the water and don't have the time or expertise to do these justice. The previous owner of the green hull swears that he sailed it in 1959 on a pond in Southern Massachusetts.? I know that fiberglass Sunnies weren't sold until 1960.? Could this be one of the earliest fiberglass models that were given to family and friends of Al & Cort? The glass has an almost leathery feel to it.? Unfortunately someone stepped on the deck and put a hole in it.-( The White one seems to just need to be dried out and a new port cover installed. The blue one has a hole in the cockpit wall (I think I have the missing piece) but seems otherwise undamaged. They are all in my back yard in Sandwich (Cape Cod), Mass. Please help me find a loving home for these wayward 'fish! Sincerely, Bob Pierce Cel. (774)222-3888 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Re: Boom end cap removal - Minifish II
Be sure to use an all-aluminum rivet.? There should be a plug in the end of the spar. You can use the spar like a cookie-cutter to plug a piece of styrofoam. Shove it down in the spar an inch or so and then seal it up with a liberal amount of silicone caulk. No need for anything fancy.? Then replace and rivet the cap.? Do the same thing at the other end, and then do the boom and mast the same way.? That way they won't fill with water if you capsize and turtle.?

Thanks Thomas, I think I will try and rivet a new one on there and see what happens. |
Minifish II rigging attempt .. advice wanted
So I had picked up a Minifish II that was missing most of it's rigging and lines. I'm a novice at this, I picked up a few blocks etc on eBay and bought some lines and I had it all sitting for a while. I'm trying to out it all together now and have a bunch of my rigging pictures I'm hoping you all can advise me on.
I'm not able to post photos directly here from my phone so I have created a Google photos album. My cheek block was broken I will probably get some rivets and try that for the one in the pictures but thought this may work too. Thank you all so much for keeping this great resource going. James |
Re: Boom end cap removal - Minifish II
Look very closely and there's probably a tiny pin though ?the end of the spar that's holding it in.? Most of the hardware on these boats is more than capable of handling the (relatively small) loads so no need to replace it.? Go sailing and enjoy.

I have a Minifish II and I need to replace the cheek block on the mast.? Is the endcap just plastic and does anyone have any tricks to remove it?? I want to install the new check block with bolts/washers/nuts for strength.? I could probably rivet it to get it working but i've read that's not very good since it's under strain from the sail.? If you have a better idea I would love to hear it. Here is a picture of my broken one check block:? Thanks James |

Our sailmaker says he does not have a pattern but could make you one if you had the spars. Schurr Sails Pensacola
