I get an average of 18 miles per gallon under normal conditions and 12 miles per gallon fully loaded at high

Hi,2WD fuel tanks often rust thru on top, where dirt collects in the "groove".? I don't know about syncro tanks.

Also check fuel injector(s)/wiring/compression, If you're smelling gas in
the exhaust.

Similar issue with my EJ2.2, bad MPGs and smell of fuel. Found a fuel hose that was cracked and fuel spraying out. Luckily I replaced it in time and my van didn¡¯t burn down. Find the problem soon.

My guess is that you¡¯re losing fuel from a leaky fuel tank or fuel lines.

Crawl under it while it's running, Hand brake on and wheels chocked), look
for leaks. Tighten all hoses and connections. Mine is only 2wd but gets
close to double your mileage.
