Thank you guys so much.
Please forgive my lack of decorum.
I am only the 2nd owner of a 1986 Syncro tin top with a 2.5 n.a. motor out of a 2004 Forester.
I had 2 previous 2.2s in it over the years, I bought it in 93, prior to this 2.5
I have not had a chance to address the lockers as this motor has been kicking my butt.
Crazy surging idle, and getting stuck at 3000+rpm.
I would turn it off and coast to light and restart which would do some sort of reset and after 2 or 3 of those it would calm down.
I replaced every valve and sensor w/ oem parts and even bought 3 or 4 different ECMs from eBay which would not even start my motor.
Finally a friend brought over a smoker and the only leak anywhere in the system was coming from the middle of the EGR valve.
I quickly whipped out a blanking plate from the thin metal squeak liner from the back of a disc brake pad and bolted the EGR back on over it and problem solved.
TPS actually adjusted to and held at .5 idle
I have watched videos and read stories of people getting 20+ mpg in same van / motor setup but I can't seem to do better than 10 to 13.
Not sure if this is a permanent solution. ??¡á?
