Two field techs needed for Asylum Hill Project in Jackson, MS, $23-28/hour
The Center for Bioethics and Medical Humanities at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) seeks two (2) archaeological field technicians for the ongoing, multi-year excavation of the cemetery associated with the original Mississippi State Insane Asylum. This cemetery is located on the UMMC campus and contains the unmarked graves of over 4,000 individuals who will be moved to make room for vital expansion. The Asylum Hill Project will permanently memorialize the interred individuals during a later phase. This is a 12 mo/year project expected to take at least 2 more years to complete. Selected candidates will be expected to move to Jackson, MS, as there is no per diem or housing provided for this project. The work schedule will be five-day, guaranteed 40-hour weeks (M-F, 8:00¨C4:30). Lab work will be provided when inclement weather prevents fieldwork. NOTE: Though the project is on a university campus, THESE ARE CRM POSITIONS FOR PROFESSIONALS. Recent graduates who are interested in getting a few months of experience before starting grad school need not apply. Company name :ICF Job description: ICF seeks On-Call Archaeologists for Crew Chief and Crew Member levels for our Pacific Northwest region (based in Seattle, Portland, or Central Oregon). The On-Call/Temporary Archaeologist will initially be working on a large pedestrian block survey in north-central Oregon expected to run for 2+ months, working 8 days on - 6 days off field schedule. This project is expected to start in mid-to-late May. Single occupancy hotels will be provided for 8 day rotations as well as transportation to and from Seattle/Portland/Central Oregon, if needed. $68 per diem is also provided for working days. Additional work after this survey is available and would primarily include fieldwork, with tasks including construction monitoring, survey, testing, evaluation, and data recovery. However, other duties could include laboratory analysis, conducting background research, report writing, and other tasks as assigned. This position requires excellent field skills, the ability to identify precontract and historic-period artifacts, and taking detailed field notes. About On-Call Employment with ICF Given the seasonal or project-specific nature of our environmental work, ICF often hires environmental professionals as ¡°On-Call¡± employees. On-Call employees are scheduled for work hours as they become available (while we usually schedule work hours a few weeks ahead of time, last minute scheduling may also occur), and each on-call employee is free to accept or refuse the hours assigned to them in a given week. On-Call employees may work concurrent projects outside of their ICF assignment (as long as their outside work does not create a conflict of interest with the work they do for ICF). Applicants must hold a master¡¯s degree in Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or a closely related field and have at least one year professional experience in Cultural Resource Management. Gray & Pape Seasonal, On-Call Archaeology Field Technician Openings Midwest, Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast Regions Gray & Pape, a national cultural heritage firm, is seeking to increase our qualified pool of Archaeological Technicians for upcoming project work in the Midwest, Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Southeast regions. Individuals interested in working for Gray & Pape will only be selected from this pool. The Archaeology Seasonal Field Technician performs archaeological fieldwork, lab work, or GIS work under the direction and supervision of a Gray & Pape Project Manager/Principal Investigator. Applicants approved for the pool must have (at a minimum): B.A./B.S. in Archaeology, Anthropology, Tribal Historic Preservation, or related field with prior coursework in, or demonstrated knowledge of archaeology, prehistory, and history. Archaeological field school experience. Ability to take detailed notes. Demonstrated work reliability.
