The Cultural Resource Specialist will work as part of the Restoration Team in the Habitat Protection & Restoration Program (HP&R). Primary Responsibilities and Expectations The successful candidate must be currently permitted or qualified to be permitted as a Principal Investigator/Project Director on state, Bureau of Land Management, and U.S. Forest Service lands in at least one of the following states: Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah. Preference will be given to candidates who are BLM permittable in southwest New Mexico. What you will accomplish Serve as primary author on large technical reports, research designs, and other technical documents. Conduct content edits of technical reports and site forms. Oversee field research, data collection, inventory, analysis, and final report production, ensuring these tasks are conducted in accordance with the QA/QC plan. Assist with training and mentoring of staff in topics including NRHP eligibility, implementation of research designs, technical reporting, and site recording protocols. Maintain good working relationships with state and federal agency contacts and clients. Cultural Resource Technicians Click HERE to apply SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking Cultural Resources Technicians to support our Sheridan, Wyoming office. In this role, you will assist the Field Director and Project Team in completing archaeological pedestrian surveys, testing, and other field tasks. You will assist with GPS data collection using iPads and communicate with the Team through daily reporting of field activities. Your role will be to conduct archaeological fieldwork including survey, testing, and resource documentation. Tasks may include mapping, photography, and artifact and feature recording, including collection of GPS data. This is a field position requiring travel and extensive time away from home, often working long hours in a variety of environments and conditions (including high altitude, variable temperatures, steep slopes, and inclement weather). Our Sheridan, Wyoming office has several project opportunities in Montana and Wyoming. Our team fosters a supportive, learning environment, and strives for the highest-quality data collection. This is a temporary, hourly, non-exempt, field-based assignment typically offering at least 40 hours per week. Candidates may reside in WY, MT, SD, or ND and must be willing to travel up to 90-100% of the time. Applicant must be willing to participate in a drug testing and alcohol screening as part of the pre-employment process, as some projects require such screenings. SWCA provides lodging, safety and vehicle equipment, GPS and iPads, and per diem on non-local projects (typically $68/day). Seasonal Archaeological Technicians - Historical Research Associates, Inc. (HRA)
HRA is seeking to increase our qualified pool of Archaeological Technicians for work in our Eugene, Portland, Missoula, Seattle, and Spokane offices. Successful candidates must either currently reside in or be planning to relocate to states in which we primarily operate (Oregon, Washington, Montana, and Idaho). Individuals interested in working for HRA for seasonal employment will be selected only from this pool. Pay is $21.25–37.00 per hour, based on location, education, experience, and special skills. HRA reviews wages on an ongoing basis based on technician demonstrated skills and abilities. The Archaeological Technician – Seasonal performs archaeological fieldwork, lab work, or related office work under the direction and supervision of an HRA staff archaeologist. Preferred applicants approved for the pool must have (at minimum) a Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology and an archaeological field school. Extensive field experience will also be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree; enrolled students nearing graduation will also be considered. The field school should preferably be university-based and completed for academic credit and must entail at least 4+ weeks of intensive, hands-on education in archaeological excavation techniques resulting in learned skills such as digging and screening, artifact and feature identification, soil recordation, mapping, and documentation, etc. Demonstrated equivalent volunteer or professional experience will also be considered in lieu of a formal field school. Preferred applicants will also have professional experience working in the field, conducting analysis of research data, and contributing to research reports. Required skills include the ability to effectively conduct research activities, conduct fieldwork using appropriate field techniques, develop and maintain positive relationships, balance work schedules and demands, provide and receive feedback, seek to resolve conflict through communication and collaboration, and use effective verbal and written communication to listen and communicate effectively. Applicants must be proficient in the use of computer programs and database systems and have familiarity with the operations and use of cameras, GPS, and GIS equipment and software. Candidates should assume that most of their working hours will be spent in the field. Positions are seasonal, and work is on-call, as needed.
