  • BA/BS degree in Anthropology or Archaeology, as well as the successful completion of an archaeological field school.?
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of using GPS technology, take quality field photographs and detailed notes, and assist crew leaders in filling out the necessary site forms and paperwork that accompany survey and testing projects?
  • Must have a demonstrated background working with prehistoric and historic archaeological materials and have a fundamental knowledge of GPS tools. ?

HRA is seeking to increase our qualified pool of Archaeological Technicians for work in our Eugene, Portland, Missoula, Seattle, and Spokane offices. The Archaeological Technician – Seasonal performs archaeological fieldwork, lab work, or related office work under the direction and supervision of an HRA staff archaeologist.

Preferred applicants approved for the pool must have (at minimum) a Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology and an archaeological field school. Extensive field experience will also be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree; enrolled students nearing graduation will also be considered. The field school should preferably be university-based and completed for academic credit and must entail at least 4+ weeks of intensive, hands-on education in archaeological excavation techniques resulting in learned skills such as digging and screening, artifact and feature identification, soil recordation, mapping, and documentation, etc. Demonstrated equivalent volunteer or professional experience will also be considered in lieu of a formal field school. Preferred applicants will also have professional experience working in the field, conducting analysis of research data, and contributing to research reports.

Cultural Resource Analysts, Inc.’s (CRA’s) Virginia Office is currently seeking archaeological field technicians for a phase I archaeological survey located in Augusta County, Virginia. A bachelor’s degree in anthropology or archaeology, attendance in a field school, and fieldwork experience are required. Regional fieldwork experience is preferred. It is imperative that candidates be able to work 8–10 hour days in a variety of conditions. Stooping, bending, and lifting are essential functions of this position. The survey will begin in mid-October and likely last though early November.

Employment Type: Hourly, Part-Time

These positions are temporary, but technicians who excel in their work will be considered for continuing work after the completion of this project.

Compensation: The hourly rate will be between $19.25$21.25, based on experience. Workdays will begin at the hotel site and end at the job site. For non-local field technicians, a per diem rate of $59.00 will be issued. Single occupancy lodging will be provided for all days worked.

Job Description and Responsibilities:

  • The Field Technician position is under the direction of Staff Archaeologists and Principal Investigators.
  • Duties may range from assisting in activities associated with the excavation of test units and features, screening, backfilling excavated areas, and cleaning/packaging/labeling archaeological artifacts.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in anthropology and completion of an archaeological field school is required.
  • One year of experience as a field technician is preferred. Preference will be given to those with historic archaeological field experience.
  • Must be able to work in variable field and weather conditions, be physically fit, and able to navigate efficiently in remote areas.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, lift heavy objects, work while standing, and do general manual labor such as digging, sifting, and moving wheelbarrows of dirt from one location to another.
  • Must possess problem solving skills to identify problems, develop, evaluate options, and implement solutions, must be resourceful and able to complete tasks in the most effective manner, must be able to follow directions and work independently as needed.

EDR is seeking an experienced, team-oriented Project Archaeologist

This role is a full-time staff position, based in Western New York. Our Project Archaeologists provide support to the Cultural Resources practice area by managing and directing archaeological field crews, coordinating with senior staff, writing, conducting research, mapping—including geographic information systems (GIS) analysis—and preparation of final deliverables that meet EDR’s standards of quality.

The qualified candidate will have:

  • Strong writing and verbal skills with a demonstrated ability to prepare cultural resources reports and communicate the results to clients.
  • At least 5 years of experience directing cultural resources investigations in New York, the Northeast, and/or mid-Atlantic states.
  • Strong geographic information systems (GIS) skills.
  • Subject matter expertise in North American archaeology
  • Demonstrated understanding of federal and state regulatory processes (e.g., NEPA, Section 106, Section 14.09, SEQRA).

In addition, this position will require:

  • Supervision of archaeological field crews.
  • Regular use of ArcGIS, MS Office, a relational database for archaeological collections management, and global positioning system (GPS) equipment and associated applications, .
