We are seeking a staff archaeologist for field work primarily in Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming. The position is a permanent, full-time, salaried position. ? Benefits include: -Health, vision, and dental insurance available after 60 days. -Supplemental insurance through AFLAC. -Vacation and sick days are available after six months. -A retirement plan is available after one year of employment. ? The candidate can expect to conduct or supervise all stages of archaeological and historic research including file searches, survey, testing and evaluation, data recovery, and construction monitoring. Project report writing is a major component of the position, so proficient writing skills are a plus. ? The candidate will need to relocate to Billings, MT. Moving expenses are not reimbursed. ? There have been times in the past during periods such as hunting season where motel rooms are in short supply and we have had to double up on the motel rooms, but those events are rare. ? -The per diem paid for all projects is no-receipts per diem of $60.00/day and is paid in cash at the beginning of each work session. ? -On Montana state highway projects, the n0-receipts cash per diem paid for 1st and last days is $51 per day, otherwise it is $60.00/day in between the 1st and last days. ? -Most longer projects tend to be 10 days on and 4 days off. ? -Between February and April/May 2025 there will be historical research projects to be completed that will involve deed record searches and trips to the Montana Historical Society archives and local historical societies. ? -A survey/testing project will start in early June 2025 and will be 6 days on and 1 day off. Overtime will be paid for the supervisor’s position at a rate of $40.50/hour. The number of overtime hours will vary week by week. Motel lodging will be provided on days off. The length of this project has not been determined yet. ? -A monitoring project will start in early June 2025 and is anticipated to last from 2 to 10 weeks and will be 5 days on and 2 days off.
