Positions are hourly/temporary, but longer-term employment is possible. Hourly compensation, based on SCA wage determination for the project location, is $32.65/hour. Minimum Requirements:
  • BS or BA in anthropology or archaeology with more than five years of field leadership experience in Southern California. Experience in the Mojave Desert is preferred.
  • Preference will be given to individuals who have demonstrated experience in field crew management. Successful candidates will have excellent technical writing, computer, and GPS skills.
  • Ability to walk up to 10 miles a day; lift up to 40 lbs.; identify historic and prehistoric artifacts and features; conduct archaeological survey and testing; complete sketch maps of features and sites; complete field forms accurately and concisely; use a GPS unit; and photograph resources.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (e.g., rugged terrain, high elevation, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures).
  • Good organizational skills, a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn.
  • Must have a clean driver’s license. Employment is also subject to drug and alcohol testing (including cannabis). Background check may be necessary on certain projects.

Archaeological field technicians for intensive pedestrian archaeological survey (Class III Inventory) in the Reno/Sparks area!

Project Description and Schedule

UES is hiring multiple field technicians to help conduct an Intensive Archaeological Pedestrian Survey (Class III Inventory) in the Reno/Sparks area, Storey County, NV. This pedestrian survey is expected to be conducted in a single 8-day field session. These positions have potential for long-term, permanent employment for the driven, collaborative, and reliable archaeologist. The ideal candidate will have experience with Class III pedestrian surveys in Nevada or surrounding areas, an understanding of the prehistoric archaeological record of Nevada and/or the Great Basin, familiarity with digital data collection, and an appreciation for the importance of efficiency and teamwork in pedestrian survey workflows.

This work is scheduled to begin Monday March 10, 2025, and will commence in a single 8-day field session (10 hour days). UES’ preference is for local field technicians who can commute from the Reno/Sparks area or other nearby towns in Nevada.

Compensation

The hourly wage for this project will be between $23 and $27, commensurate with experience and attitude. UES will provide daily transport to and from the project area from a central meeting point TBD. Field techs will be responsible for arranging their travel to and from the meeting point each day. UES will provide single-room accommodation and $59/day per diem for non-local technicians. Non-local technicians will be responsible for arranging their travel to the project area at the beginning and end of the 8 day session. This opportunity is fast approaching so apply today! Responsibilities

  • Conduct pedestrian survey using parallel transects under the supervision of a UES field director.
  • Identify both precontact and historic-era archaeological isolates and sites.

  • Perform cursory artifact analysis (e.g., quantification, attribute analysis, photographs, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to walk long distances over rugged terrain in a variety of environmental conditions.
  • Basic proficiency in navigation/orienting (using a compass and GPS).

Be A Part of An Eventful Field Season at PAL!

PAL’s Seasonal Field Archaeologists assist with all phases of terrestrial archaeological investigations in a variety of environmental settings including urban, inland, and coastal locations, under the supervision of the Project Archaeologist.

In this role you will perform archaeological excavations with hand tools and/or machine-assistance, identify and record cultural deposits including artifacts and features on standardized PAL field forms, work collaboratively in a team environment while following PAL and client health and safety protocols. ?We are looking for enthusiastic archaeologists, with a strong commitment towards client customer service who enjoy a fast-paced work environment.

Fieldwork:

-Single occupancy rooms on most projects, which is 99.99 % of the time. There have been times in the past during periods such as hunting season where motel rooms are in short supply and we have had to double up on the motel rooms, but those events are rare.

-The per diem paid for all projects is no-receipts per diem of $60.00/day and is paid in cash at the beginning of each work session.

-On Montana state highway projects, the n0-receipts cash per diem paid for 1st and last days is $51 per day, otherwise it is $60.00/day in between the 1st and last days.

The Cultural Resources Specialist position will support cultural resource compliance activities, prepare and evaluate National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) Section 106 undertakings and documentation, coordinate and attend stakeholder meetings, and recommend cultural resource and compliance management activities to Command to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as Department of Defense policies and procedures. A high degree of analytic knowledge, initiative, and resourcefulness; proven leadership skills and team-building capabilities; and excellent oral and written communication skills are critical to success in this position.

Hawaiˊi is located 2,200 miles west of California and 4,000 miles east of Japan. Hawaiˊi offers endless opportunities for recreational and cultural activities, including camping, surfing, diving and snorkeling, hiking trails, museums, and parks.

Bellows AFS was initially established as Waimanalo Military Reservation in 1917, and later renamed Bellows Field, in honor of 2nd Lt. Franklin Barney Bellows, who was killed in action during World War I. This was also one of the sites involved in the December 9, 1941, attack. Bellows Field remained active throughout World War II and became a separate permanent military installation in 1948. In 1973, a portion of Bellows was listed in the National Register of Historic Places as a site of archaeological significance with artifacts establishing this area as one of the oldest places of human habitation in the Hawaiian Islands. Ka’ena Point Space Force Station sits on a remote ridge 1,500 feet above Yokohama Bay. KPSFS began operations in 1958 as part of the nation’s first satellite reconnaissance program. Today, KPSFS supports more than 185 satellites, performing mission operations around the world.

PAY RATE

SWCA Environmental Consultants is filling positions for?Permitted Archaeological Monitors?in Colorado and Wyoming to join our SWCA Anschutz Program team. Special compensation rates apply to this position. Compensation ranges from?$34.00 to $39.00/hour commensurate with experience and role, with?overtime paid at time-and-a-half.?Per diem is $68 per day.?This is an?hourly, regular-status, benefitted position?for the duration of the monitoring project, expected to run from mid-April to mid-November 2025. As a permitted archaeological monitor, you are responsible for various project tasks, including?supervising field staff, working independently, coordinating with construction crews, monitoring construction, and keeping detailed records. You will inspect construction areas, independently identifying and fully recording cultural material, including subsurface testing. This role will include other field tasks as necessary for project success (e.g., client coordination, vehicle maintenance, etc.).

This is a distributed position,?welcoming applicants from all SWCA office locations. In accordance with the construction schedule, daily work hours will typically vary between 10 to 12 hours, depending on the construction crew’s schedule and needs. Work will typically occur Monday through Saturday, with Sundays off. Single-occupancy lodging and per diem are covered seven days a week, with 8-hour compensation for down days caused by weather or other project delays. Rental trucks will be provided, and all work time including travel between the lodging location and the project site will be fully compensated.

What you will accomplish


  • Work collaboratively with a construction crew to ensure safe and efficient monitoring practices.
  • Perform monitoring fieldwork and provide assistance to project managers with various field tasks.
  • Coordinate the progress of the field crew and facilitate daily data transfer.
  • Prepare accurate and detailed daily monitoring reports.
  • Collect, organize, and conduct quality assurance and quality control for field data.
  • Assist with technical reporting as needed.
  • Uphold SWCA’s high standard of scientific ethics and assurance, demonstrating the ability to identify and creatively resolve challenges.
  • Supervise a small crew conducting archaeological monitoring fieldwork. This includes:?
    • independently assigning and directing the activities of others on behalf of SWCA, often in remote areas without immediate guidance from senior managers, to ensure quality and on-time delivery;
    • ensuring that employees understand their responsibilities and delegated tasks and being held accountable if crew members under your supervision are not performing their activities correctly, productively, and safely;
    • serving as a conduit of communication between employees and senior managers, including communicating issues to relevant senior managers;
    • receiving and resolving complaints from employees in the field; and
    • monitoring team productivity and providing timely performance feedback, including deciding when disciplinary action is necessary and delivering discipline.


Experience and qualifications for success


  • Permitted or permittable on the Wyoming and/or Colorado BLM permits, with preference given to applicants who can be on both permits.
  • Experience with archaeological monitoring of construction sites.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a closely related field is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Current valid driver’s license and the ability to safely operate a four-wheel drive vehicle on rugged backcountry roads.
  • Ability to travel to a location; ability to conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain, and often at high altitudes; and ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to spend several hours per day away from the vehicle.

  • Experience in monitoring in southern Wyoming and northwest Colorado.

Archaeological Field Technicians - Virginia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and the Carolinas - Temporary with Potential for Permanent

 

TerraXplorations, Inc.?is seeking contract-based Field Technicians (multiple positions) for projects across the Southeast, particularly in Virginia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and the Carolinas.?The hourly wage for this position ranges between $18.00 and $25.00 an hour, depending on the location and contract. Per diem is between $60.00 and $68.00, depending on the contract and/or 2025 GSA rates for the project location. Lodging is always single-occupancy and covered by TerraX. While this call is for contract-based?employment, there is potential for full-time employment that would include?health and retirement benefits.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

·??????? Work under the supervision of a Field Director, Crew Chief, Principal Investigator, and/or Project Manager.

·??????? Perform tasks associated with Phase I survey, including shovel testing, excavation, photography, and documentation. ?

·??????? Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting and walking on uneven surfaces carrying at least 20 lbs. of equipment and the ability to work in extreme weather conditions.

·??????? All field staff are expected to provide and carry their own measuring tape (metric required), trowels, backpack, water bottles, lunch, and appropriate clothing and footwear.

Minimum Qualifications:

·??????? A bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a closely related field.

Basic knowledge of the requisite skills for each phase of archaeological investigations, including orienteering for the survey, hand excavation/shovel excavation techniques, documentation of field survey forms/survey areas, sample collection strategies, cursory artifact analysis, and subsurface and surface feature identification.

·??????? Ability to perform strenuous work in various environmental conditions.

·??????? Ability to work in a team-based environment.

·??????? Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

·??????? Excellent documentation and communication skills.
