SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking?Cultural Resources Technicians?in our Houston, Texas and Baton Rouge, Louisiana offices (Gulf Coast Region) to assist with cultural resources management work.?SWCA's Gulf Coast region offers a unique work environment and a diversified client-base, including generation/renewables, transportation, water infrastructure, oil and gas, and land development. Your role will be to assist the crew chiefs and field directors on a variety of projects throughout the Gulf Coast and Southeastern US.

?

This is at least a 40-hour per week, hourly, temporary, field-based assignment expected to last from October 2024 thru January 2025. The selected candidates can reside anywhere in TX and LA, or throughout the southeast region and will be required to travel up to 100% of the time.?

?

The selected candidate will be required to pass client-specific drug and alcohol screening, potentially including pre-fieldwork drug testing and monthly drug testing.?

What you will accomplish

• Perform complete archaeological surveying and field testing.
• Conduct shovel test pits and excavation units.
• Execute data recovery and associated field recording.
• Complete field forms, digital photography, and in-field mapping.
• Assist with archaeological office and lab work.
• Participate in GPS data collection in the field under the supervision of a Field Lead or Project Archaeologist.

Experience and qualifications for success

Minimum Qualifications:

• An accredited Field School Certification.?
• Ability to travel to a location, walk, and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather (including extreme heat and humidity), rugged terrain, often at high altitudes.
• Ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
• Current valid driver’s license and ability to safely operate a 4wd vehicle on rugged, backcountry roads required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 6+ months experience with a wide range of field methodologies, including archaeological survey, testing, excavation, methodology and monitoring.
• Knowledge of Collector and Survey123.

About this Position

Archaeological field technicians for Phase I surveys near Atlanta, Montgomery, and orlando

Project Description and Schedule

UES is hiring multiple field technicians to help conduct Phase I Archaeological Surveys across Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. We have project-specific work opportunities that will develop into career-trajectory placement for the right person. This work will begin October 30 and potentially continue through the end of November.

Compensation

The hourly wage for this project will be between $23 and $27, commensurate with experience and attitude. UES’ preference is for a field tech local to the Southeast but will consider applications from non-local techs. For non-local techs, UES will pay for drive time to and from provided accommodation near the project area, along with $60 per diem and will provide daily transport to and from the site. Non-local field techs will be responsible for arranging their travel to and from the project area at the beginning and end of the field session. This opportunity is fast approaching so apply today! Responsibilities

• Conduct shovel testing and pedestrian survey for Phase I Archaeological Surveys under the supervision of a UES field director.
• Identify artifacts and site boundaries.
• Record shovel tests and site forms using UES-provided digital data collection systems.
• Perform cursory artifact analysis (e.g., quantification, attribute analysis, photographs, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to perform manual labor associated with shovel testing, screening, and pedestrian survey in a range of environmental conditions.
• Attention to detail and good communication skills.
• Ability to work in a collaborative environment.
• Basic proficiency in digital field data collection.
• Basic proficiency in navigation/orienting (using a compass and GPS).

Preferred Qualifications

NV5 is seeking up to five Temporary Full- time archaeological Field Technicians to work out of our Alpharetta, Georgia office.? This position will primarily be responsible for conducting day-to-day archaeological Data Recovery excavations on an on-going State-wide Mitigation Contract. This is a full-time position located in our Prairie du Sac office with fieldwork required in Wisconsin and surrounding states. • Assist in research, development and operations of tribal cultural resources protections for the Morongo community on reservation and ancestral lands; conduct and promote quality research in anthropology, archaeology, history, ethnohistory and related fields to document information to produce professional reports.
• Assist with the stewardship of Morongo collections area including proper care of artifacts; perform collection inventories and data entry and accessioning process.
• Assist with monitoring of construction and other sites to avoid destructive ground disturbances by locating and identifying cultural resources, when needed.
• Participate in conferences, classes, workshops, events, working lunches or other meetings to further the stewardship and educational goals of the THPO/Cultural Resources program.
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding Morongo tribal cultural resources, internal procedures, contracting, including the removal or electronic downloading of any Morongo cultural property for work purposes without permission.

MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS

• Associate’s degree with three years of increasingly responsible cultural resources/archaeological experience with previous experience and interest in the cultivation and preservation of Native American heritage.
• Or Bachelor’s degree with one years of increasingly responsible cultural resources/archaeological experience with previous experience and interest in the cultivation and preservation of Native American heritage.
• Maintain a current insurable driver’s license & insurability on company policy.
• Basic operation of a workstation (turning on/off, knowledge of basic functions and components) and general office equipment. Use/storage/maintenance of multiple usernames and passwords. Computer-related problem-solving skills through the use of available trainings and help desk.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.), internet software and appropriate storage of electronic files.
• Ability to perform other duties as assigned.
• A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers.
• Knowledge of applicable Tribal customs, traditions, policies and government regulation; applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures.
• Technical aspects required for specialty field and public relations techniques.
• Ability to speak in public (seminars, workshops, groups, etc.)
• Plan and organize work and maintain a variety of records and files.
• Compose correspondence and written materials in correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary. Business letter and report writing, editing and proofreading.
• Research and methods of collecting and organizing historical and cultural data and information.? Compile and verify data and prepare reports.
• Establish and maintain positive working relationships with the federal, state and local lead agencies, other tribal governments, and historic preservation organizations.? Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
