The dynamic and driven team at Environmental Research Group, LLC is seeking an SOI Qualified Archaeologist for a 5-week pedestrian survey and monitoring project in Macon, Georgia starting on February 17th, 2025. A 7-week follow-on work stint will also occur. Working schedule will be set as a 5-day work week with 10hr days, with weekends off. Overtime will be paid, of course.? Positions require a minimum of a B.A. in anthropology, archaeology, paleontology, or a related field. Archaeologists will be expected to travel (time paid, no mileage) to the project location on the day fieldwork starts. Fieldwork will consist of pedestrian survey with shovel testing and unit excavation. You must be able to walk 4 to 8 miles a day for survey work, excavate shovel tests (35 cm in diameter and up to 100 cm deep), screen dirt from 10–20 cm levels through a ?" mesh screen, and use hand-held devices to record shovel test depth, soil characteristics and Munsell colors by level, and describe any artifacts found at each level. Typical surveys will involve the documentation of 1 to 4 archaeological sites per project, and the ability to identify and describe pre- and post-nineteenth century artifacts is expected. All field staff will be expected to carry their own measuring tape (metric required), trowels, backpack, water bottles and lunch/snacks. WestLand?is seeking an experienced full-time?Archaeology Field Director?to join our Nevada?Cultural Resources team. Our Nevada crews can be found working throughout the West on various projects including archaeological surveys, monitoring, and excavations. The ideal candidate will have expertise in local and regional cultural history, archaeology, and local, state, and federal statutes governing cultural resource investigations, be permittable by state and federal agencies, and have previous experience leading and supervising field crews. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading teams in support of archaeological compliance projects across Nevada, California, and other neighboring states. For out-of-town work that includes overnight, or longer duration stays, per diem and single-occupancy hotel rooms are provided at the 2025 GSA rate. For remote projects where lodging is not available, additional camping per diem will be provided. This position will be based out of WestLand's?Reno, NV?office.

The salary range for this position is $28.00 - $38.00 per hour.

What will I be doing?

• Leading and coordinating archaeological fieldwork (i.e., field survey, testing, monitoring, and data recovery excavations).
• Supervising field crews in the recording of artifacts, features and sites, creating scaled profiles and plans, and being responsible for all paperwork, notes, and records related to project activities.
• Processing and cataloging artifacts and other materials to lab specifications.
• Filing and scanning records and paperwork.
• Contributing to and completing tasks related to all phases of project work, including record searches, site record production, technical report production, and agency & client communication.

What qualifications are required for this role?

• A graduate degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field. An undergraduate degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field AND additional years of experience may substitute for a graduate degree.
• A minimum of two years supervisory experience as a cultural resource professional in the Western United States.
• Previous experience working in the Great Basin and/or California culture regions.
• Previous experience writing or contributing to technical archaeological reports.
• Ability to conduct fieldwork for long hours in various environments and conditions including extreme temperatures, rough terrain, and potential high altitudes.
• Ability to travel for work, occasionally on short notice and for extended periods (paid drive time, M&I per diem, lodging when available). For remote projects where lodging is unavailable, camping may be necessary and additional per diem will be provided.
• Ability to work as a member of a cohesive team.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and creative environment.

WestLand is adding a full-time Principal Investigator/Project Manager to our growing Cultural Resources team in Washington and Oregon. Candidates for these positions may be remote or based out of our Seattle, WA; Spokane, WA; or Portland, OR offices. You will help to grow and mentor our cultural team as well as oversee the completion of projects across the west. Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist other project managers in the execution of architectural history, historic preservation, preservation planning, and components of multi-disciplinary projects and occasionally independently manage stand-alone architectural history and historic preservation projects
• Plan and complete historic resource surveys of residential, commercial, agricultural, industrial, and institutional properties using tablet computers, digital photography, and other survey methodologies
• Conduct archival research, focusing on primary and secondary sources, and write historic narratives and context statements
• Evaluate resources under National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) criteria
• Prepare defensible compliance documentation in support of NHPA/Section 106 review
• Carry out project-level review for compliance with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards, in support of NHPA and local permitting projects
• May assist Project Managers in developing and managing project budgets and staff

• Perform mid-level technical peer review of documents

Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in Historic Preservation, Public History, Heritage Conservation, History, Architectural History, or a closely related field
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in cultural resources management as an architectural historian
• Prior experience managing or supporting projects (schedules, budgets, RFP's) preferred

Project Archaeologist, University of Iowa

Reports to the Office of the State Archaeologist (OSA) research directors. Performs field investigations, laboratory analyses, and prepares reports in accordance with project needs, established guidelines, and in coordination with the research director and project staff. Frequent in-state travel is required. Exercises functional supervision of field and lab technicians as assigned to specific project teams.?
