Fang has found his new home, thank you for the great offers!
Hi,
As with all our rescued Savannahs, we had a number of great homes offering for Fang, the black polydactyl Savannah. We're pleased to announce that he has found his new home and should be leaving his foster home shortly :-) A special thank you to Betsy Whitlock of Belle Hollow Savannahs for her generosity. She took in the group of Savannahs from the Guilford shelter and has looked after them wonderfully, dealt with their vetting and medications and evaluated them so that we could place them in the best homes for them. Many of you have expressed distaste for breeders, I hope this might tell you that not all breeders are irresponsible. Some (like Betsy and a number of this Rescue team) are careful and responsible breeders that not only take care of their own but are willing to step up for any Savannah (and sometimes cats of other breeds too!). Breed Rescue groups like this mean that shelters only have to deal with the pets from feral colonies and unspayed pets, and hopefully one day sufficient TNR (trap-neuter-release) programs and low cost spay-neuter clinics will manage that issue more effectively too. Sincerely, Brigitte -- Brigitte Cowell Director Savannah Rescue www.svrescue.com |
Snowflake is placed, thank you!
Hi all,
We've had a huge job in processing the applications for Snowflake, it was so hard as there were so many GREAT homes offering for this special girl! We've chosen one home from that pile and Snowflake will be going home tomorrow we believe. Thank you all so much for your kind offers. We feel terrible that many have to be disappointed. We should point out that the home we chose for Xooma had applied previously for other cats and not been successful. So obviously not getting one cat does not mean we think you a bad home, just that we found a better fit in another home. As to Fang, we are now concentrating on his home and hope to have that decided soon also. Thanks, Brigitte -- Brigitte Cowell Director Savannah Rescue www.svrescue.com |
No more applications for Snowflake or Fang in NC please!
Hi,
Thank you so much for ALL the wonderful kind offers for Snowflake and Fang. We have been flooded with emails and are at our limit. We cannot consider more homes, so are suspending our search for now to consider the applications we currently have. We really do think that the offers we have will eventuate to great homes for both kitties, but will let you all know if we need more offers. Thank you! Unfortunately, it will be unlikely to be decided in the next couple days as some of our team has had to travel to Columbus, OH to fight proposed legislation that would ban the Savannah cat in this state. Those of you near Columbus, OH might want to check out the Pet Expo where there will be a booth explaining the proposed legislation and how to fight it. Sincerely, Brigitte |
Re: [SV-Rescue-Fosters] Fang - likely the most unusual Savannah ever offered by Savannah Rescue!
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI forgot to mention that Fang is also in Franklin, NC...so that is where we need you to be within driving distance of!Please be patient, those who have already emailed, as we have been swamped for both Snowflake and Fang and am trying to reply to everyone! Fang - likely the most unusual Savannah ever offered by Savannah Rescue!
The foster home says that if she walked into a shelter looking for a cat it would be THIS cat she took home...he's that interesting, unusual and appealing in person.
Black cats do not present well. Fang is a black smoke, a very very dark one, which means he mainly looks like a black cat but kinda different. The full body shot you can see the silver at the base of his coat... it's really so very interesting in person (one of my first Savannahs was a black smoke). Fang is exceedingly purry, loving and friendly. If you met him in person you'd not be able to resist. But what makes him so very singular as a Savannah is that he has no tail...AND he has more toes than a cat has a right to. He's polydactyl! He was originally bred to be part of a Desert Lynx/Highlander program but is actually an F5 Savannah nevertheless. We feel that Fang has his own appeal, maybe more to the Twilight fans, or those that like the very unusual...but definitely to those wanting a loving affectionate kitty. Fang does have an upper respiratory infection from the Guilford County Animal Shelter, he is currently being treated for this and will come with antibiotics. Hence he will need to be kept isolated for the duration of the antibiotic course and you will need to consult your veterinarian before introducing him to your other pets. Fang seems good with everyone..people, cats etc. He is available for the reduced adoption fee of $100. We will NOT ship him, as with the infection he cannot get a health certificate for air travel. Please email info@... with a description of your home to be considered for Fang. Sincerely, Brigitte Brigitte Cowell Director Savannah Rescue www.svrescue.com |
Snowflake - amazing F2 spayed female - NC
Snowflake is a colorpoint tabby F2 Savannah female, although this is a nonstandard Savannah color/pattern, it is also sought after by some as it is thought to best represent the white Serval best in the domestic form.
Snowflake is a wonderful example of our breed, not only for her lovely type but her amazing personality. She is exceedingly sociable with humans, cats and dogs. The reason we don't have great pics of her is because she is so intent on loving on everyone! She is very adaptable, she will walk on the leash...in short she likely is the most perfect Savannah we've had into Rescue! As always we prefer local homes, so anyone within driving distance of Franklin, NC is at an advantage in this situation. Snowflake has very few disadvantages or requirements in a home. She needs an indoor only home with only an enclosure or willingness to leash walk. She likely needs company but will be happy with human company if that is all there is. Her adoption fee will be $250, and at this time we will not ship. Please email info@svrescue with a description of the home you are offering Snowflake. Please do not neglect that description else we will not consider you as a home for this special kitty. Sincerely, Brigitte Brigitte Cowell Director Savannah Rescue www.svrescue.com |
Xooma the overgrooming F2 in NC has found her family
Thank you all for the many wonderful offers of a home for Xooma. We've been so impressed by how many kind souls wanted to take Xooma on and help her with her issues. It was really difficult to make a decision but I think the home we chose is the right one for her.
Please keep watching our lists, as we just took four Savannahs from the same shelter (and from the same cattery raid situation). Sincerely, Brigitte Brigitte Cowell Director Savannah Rescue www.svrescue.com |
Xooma, F2 spayed female with OCD-related hair loss, available in NC
Hi,
Many of you might remember the raid on a Savannah breeder (and also breeder of multiple other breeds including Highlander) in North Carolina, it received a lot of press and also had us scrambling to try and help the cats. We didn't get an awful lot of cooperation from the sheriff's department in Davie County nor the Guilford County Animal Shelter where all the cats (including the Savannahs bar the F1s and the Serval) were placed through. Eventually, they allowed us to take Xooma, an F2 female, that is mother to a number of amazing high percentage F1s including my precious Nina. I believe they let her go because of her hair loss. Xooma has OCD, she overgrooms herself to the point of hair loss. Xooma has been in a foster home for a couple months, and steroid treatment has not helped. She's been wormed and treated for fleas so that is not the cause of the hair loss, and monitoring of her has shown that it is grooming not the hair just falling out. Unfortunately, the foster home is an active breeder and so has not been able to work too individually with Xooma so we feel it is time to find her a better situation. Xooma is very very human friendly, she adores attention and wants to be with people. She has had a slight URI since being there, PCR testing has identified Mycoplasma and she is starting a treatment of doxycycline. At this time she has not been with other cats but we do know from the breeder that Xooma did cohabit with other cats without issue. What we want in a home for Xooma: We prefer a quieter home for Xooma, fewer animals and more time to spend with her is going to be ideal to work on her issues and hopefully resolve her over-grooming. We want a home with willingness to work on her issues, have a good relationship with their vet to be confident that they will be given suggestions and options to try. Diet change could make all the difference for example, food allergy has not been tested. We always prefer a local home...but with Xooma's special needs we might consider shipping for the right home. Please don't just email us asking us how much and when we can ship her, if we do ship it will be because you have convinced us you are the right home. Please email us at info@... and give us your location, and a description of the home you are offering as well as your thoughts on how you would approach Xooma's overgrooming issue. Her adoption fee will be $200, which doesn't cover what we have spent on her. We had to pay Guilford County shelter $350 to be able to take her into Rescue, and have outlayed additional hundreds on testing and treatment. Attached are pics of Xooma, if you cannot see them because you are reading off the website, please change your membership settings to "individual emails" so that you are sent the pictures along with the email. Thanks, Brigitte -- Brigitte Cowell Director Savannah Rescue www.svrescue.com |
SPECIAL NEEDS SENIOR F2 GIRL- Las Vegas, NV
Kristine Alessio
Hello all,
Meeka is a beautiful golden 9.5 year old girl who is located in Las Vegas, Nevada. ?She cannot and will not be shipped due to a health issue. Meeka was surrendered by her owner who has five other Savannahs, she was very unhappy with so many cats and was turned in to a vet's office. ?Upon a health screening, her cardiac ultrasound showed abnormailites which could be indicative of HCM. ?She does well with one or two other cats, loves people and probably can deal with a dog. ?Her prospective owner MUST agree in writing to provide her yearly cardiac ultrasounds and also to provide any medications needed if she is diagnosed with HCM at a future date. We believe her to be an F2. ? If you have a place in your home and in your heart fo Meeka, please email us at info@... and put "Meeka" in the subject line. ?Again, you must be able to drive to Las Vegas to pick her up, she cannot be shipped. Blind ~25% Savannah neutered male in Corvallis, Oregon still needs a home
Hi,
Nick desperately needs a home that is willing to work with his special needs, preferably one that can travel to Oregon to pick him up. He's a friendly kitty but he is almost totally blind, I believe he can see shadows. So he needs a home that is willing to work with that disability by making things simple for him (in terms of home layout, maybe bells on collars of other pets, he can find the litterbox but sometimes doesn't exactly get all IN the box). Nick wants to play with other animals, he's lived successfully with dogs, but some cats find him a little rough so either he needs a home with no other cats or the other cats need to be able to hold their own. Nick tends to gulp his food, and needs someone to work on that issue. I'm not sure if that is because when living with dogs he had to eat fast or why he's developed the tendency but this is something that is often easily resolved with a specific type of feeding dish or smaller more frequent meals. As you can see from the pics, Nick does very well with children. Please let me know asap if you can help out with this. info@... Need help transporting two Savannahs from near Pecos, west Texas to Phoenix, AZ
Hi,
This is an unusual situation hence an unusual request. There is a pet owner near Pecos, TX that has two F5 Savannah females. He is no longer well enough to be able to offer them adequate care, and he wishes to return them to the breeder to rehome them. Unfortunately, he is not physically able to lift a pet crate, nor get them to an airport to ship back to her, and certainly not able to undertake the long road trip. The breeder is willing to pay all expenses, so we are asking if anyone in that general area could find it in their heart to help out here. If you could get there and crate the cats and coordinate with a ground transportation service, that might be enough. If you could take the cats to an airport to ship back to the breeder that would also work. Just throwing this out there to see if anyone can help! Please email us at info@... if you can help. Thanks, Brigitte -- Brigitte Cowell Director Savannah Rescue www.svrescue.com |
Hercules the Savannah in the Green Lake, WI shelter is no longer available
Thank you all for your prompt replies. The shelter has told me that they've had over 100 applicants and are sure they can find a home within that number so Hercules has been pulled from Petfinder pending adoption.

Special Needs High Percentage F4 (same serval % as F2) neutered male - Oregon
Hi all,
Nick is a special needs Savannah currently in Corvallis, OR. He's vision-impaired due to an anesthetic mistake during his neuter. Nick "died" and it took them 45 minutes to revive him and his optic nerves had been damaged severely. The specialist at the time felt he might regain some sight and it does seem that he may see shadows, but in any case cats are amazing in their ability to adapt to handicaps. Nick is now 7 years old and is being surrendered from his third home. Due to the stress that transporting and changing of environment for such a special kitty, the breeder (Arden Morley of Camelottaspots) believes that finding an adoptive home directly from the surrendering home is preferable to transporting him to their home in Arizona. Then him getting adapted to that and having to change environments all over again. We agree with her so are helping look for this very special home. It appears from discussions with his current home that Nick has some litterbox issues, but what is not clear is if this really IS a problem. He's peeing in the box but pooping beside it, so he does not have a problem locating the box. What we believe is happening is some negative interactions with the other kitties means he is not comfortable in this box for a number of reasons. The current home is not able to work with us on changing the situation to see if this improves. Nick is a very human-sociable cat, he loves attention and is leash-trained. What we have been told about him with other cats is that he does not hiss or growl, but after sniffing noses will pounce on the other cats. This has caused issues in his current home although we think he is merely trying to play with the kitties who were not at all interested. He doesn't chase but sits and meows sadly when they run off. We want a home that would be prepared to make adjustments for a blind (or vision-impaired) cat. We'd prefer it is not a super-busy household. Likely it would be best if there were no other cats or else a cat that would be interested in wrestling and playing under initial good supervision. We think it important that the home be "stable" ie having lived in that home for some time and unlikely to have to move anytime soon. Obviously changes are much harder when a kitty is not seeing too well! The adoption fee for Nick is the price of one consultation with Marilyn Krieger (www.thecatcoach.com), a feline behavior therapist, plus one followup consult. This would come to $210. We want the new home to commit to having that consult with Marilyn to help this transition and introduction to a new home. Marilyn has many ideas on helping Nick adjust and also how to play with this kind of cat more effectively. Nick deserves a home that is willing to make it work! Please email us at info@... if you are interested in Nick AND can drive to fetch him in Corvallis, OR or somewhere within 4 hours drive of there (the current home is willing to drive this distance to meet a suitable home). Please do NOT ask us to ship Nick! If you would fly to Oregon and take him back in cabin with you that may be possible but we will NOT ship him cargo.
