F6 B Girl Available Now in N.Virginia

Kristine Alessio

Karla is a lovely F6B savannah that is in need of a special home; she is super shy and fearful of people and new situations.? She was raised in a home with only one person, and never learned to be social with other people.? She is spayed, has had all her shots, has no medical issues, is great with the litterbox.? She needs a quiet home to allow her to more easily adjust and bond to her new owner(s).? She will tolerate petting as long as she has a ‘safe zone’ where she can hide like the cat tree above.? She does not like to be picked up.

?

To be considered as a home for Karla, you must: ?be within 2-3 hrs driving distance to Northern VA,?have no?children?under 18, have no other pets (or 1 calm cat or dog), have a quiet? room for her to stay in for several months while she adjusts, and have LOTS of patience.? ?She is a lovely girl, just needs the right environment to bloom.

?

Karla’s spay and shots were provided by savannah rescue; we are asking an adoption fee of $175 to cover those expenses.

?

Email?info@...??or?kim@...?if you think you could provide a home for Karla, and PLEASE provide information about yourself and the home you would provide in the email.

Lost F2 Savannah in Sonoma, CA

开云体育

Rufio is an F2 neutered Savannah male, he's not a huge cat but distinctly spotted and has lovely big green eyes. He has been missing since the evening of June 28th from the Riverside Dr. and Boyes Blvd. area of Sonoma. His owner is very worried for her best friend and misses him greatly, he's curious but not very brave and not at all used to being outside. He's had emergency surgery in the past for urinary tract issues and needs a prescription diet so of course his owner is very worried for his health as well as safety!

If you see Rufio, please call Shawnda at 707.280.9326 or email at shawndajohansen@...

Thanks!

Homed: Special Needs Home for Disabled F3 Savannah Female - CA

Just an update on Lolli, she finally went to her new home today and we hope she does wonderfully :-)

Thank you all for the kind and generous offers for her! It really impressed her owner how many were willing to take on Lolli with her limitations.

Savannah Rescue is helping her breeder hopefully find her a special
home! She is currently located near Santa Rosa, CA.

Lolli seemingly had some sort of accident, whilst heavily pregnant. She
lost function of her hind legs. Xrays did not show any significant
injury and the only treatment the vet could offer was steroid injections
which was not possible because of the kittens she was carrying. Lolli
was able to birth her babies and the breeder has been working to see how
much function Lolli can regain.

At this time (after a month), Lolli has "some" use of her hindlegs, she
can move about and even seems to be able to scale a baby gate on her
own... a video of her motion can be seen at
, she does not seem to be in distress with her disability. She has
occasional incontinence but will tolerate stud pants. She is great with
dogs, children and other cats. I've attached a picture of her.

Lolli needs a home with a huge heart. She needs someone that is willing
to cope with her current limitations and possibly even look into
therapies to help her improve further.

If you are the person that can give Lolli a new chance at life, please
email us at info@...

Please feel free to crosspost in order to find Lolli that home!

CALL TO ACTION: Comments needed - USDA/APHIS retailpet seller rule change

Please take the time to read this message below. APHIS, part of the USDA
is proposing to tighten regulations on what they regard as retail pet
sales. According to many experts' interpretation of the wording they are
proposing, rescue groups will NOT be exempt.

If this is true, Savannah Rescue will not continue to operate as it
currently does. We cannot require foster homes to have USDA facilities,
nor can we always have the person come to the foster home...sometimes
they do need to meet halfway and occasionally we do ship. We cannot keep
one large facility in one state and adopt out only there!

We encourage you to visit the APHIS portal at
!documentDetail;D=APHIS-2011-0003-0001 and
leave your comments. We do not give you a form letter as they want
individual thoughts. Please tell them how unworkable their proposed
system is and how economically inadvisable it is as the labor on their
part to enforce these unenforceable regulations is ridiculously
expensive! Their submitted budget for APHIS for 2013 called for a
decrease of 6.6% yet they are increasing their responsibilities in
inspections etc by a huge amount by adding in every home-based cattery
and every rescue group in the country!

I'm sorry for the lengthy email, any of you that hope to adopt a rescued
animal in future or potentially purchase a home-raised companion animal
ever again (or wish for your children or grandchildren to be able to in
future)... please take the time to help us fight this!

Thank you for your time!
Brigitte

Subject: [SAOVA_South] CALL TO ACTION: Comments needed - USDA/APHIS retailpet seller rule change

A SAOVA message to sportsmen, pet owners and farmers concerned about protecting their traditions, avocations and livelihoods from anti-hunting, anti-breeding, animal guardianship advocates. Forwarding and cross posting, with attribution, encouraged.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

June 6, 2012

SAOVA friends,

As you know by now, APHIS proposes to revise the definition of "retail pet store" to bring more pet animals sold at retail under the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) licensing and regulations. APHIS plans to narrow the definition of retail pet store so that it means a PLACE OF BUSINESS OR RESIDENCE THAT EACH BUYER PHYSICALLY ENTERS in order to personally observe the animals available for sale prior to purchase and/or to take custody of the animals after purchase. Under the proposed rule no dog or other pet animal will be sold at retail WITHOUT either public or APHIS oversight. This is the critical point.

WHAT WE KNOW

- For decades pet sellers in the retail sector have enjoyed immunity from federal licensing under the definition of a ?retail pet store?. Historically retail sellers were not licensed by the federal government due to the general ability of the public to provide their own scrutiny of pet sellers and government concerns such as duplicative efforts with state or local laws.

- The proposed rule change has been circulated in the media and by HSUS as ?closing an Internet loophole? in the AWA that will bring regulation to unscrupulous dog breeders who operate in substandard conditions. Far from it!! The broad scope of the proposed rule could bring hundreds of thousands of pet retailers and rescuers of domestic animals under federal regulation.

- A breeder/seller of any species currently covered under the ?retail pet store? definition can potentially lose their exemption and be required to obtain a federal license for even occasionally selling sight unseen via the Internet. ?Covered? species includes dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, rats, mice, gophers, chinchilla, domestic ferrets, domestic farm animals, birds.

- The proposed rule would require EVERY SINGLE BUYER to physically visit a retailer?s premises. Therefore selling even one pet OFF PREMISES at a show, at a park, or arranged location without the buyer visiting first, will result in loss of an exemption from federal licensing. Rescue organizations are NOT exempt from this proposed rule. Selling pets at an adoption day event away from their base location or traveling to meet potential adopters would no longer be permitted without a federal license. This proposed requirement places undue limitations on buyers as well as sellers.

- Living under USDA licensing is NOT an option for the average retail seller. Spare rooms in homes, porches, covered kennel runs, and barns can never be converted to a USDA-compliant facility. Federal engineered standards for licensed facilities dictate enclosure sizes, sanitation, surfaces that are impervious to moisture, ventilation, bio-hazard control, veterinary care, exercise, temperature controls, waste disposal systems, diurnal lighting, drainage systems, washrooms, perimeter fencing, as well as transportation standards for regulated animals. Most residential environments would not permit zoning variances for such facilities.

- Exemptions from licensing are limited. Breeders of cats, dogs, and small exotic animals are currently exempt if they have 3 or fewer breeding females. APHIS proposes to increase this to 4 or fewer breeding females. However, either limit makes it very difficult to build a breeding program without constantly moving out or spaying older females to make room for the next generation. To have more than this number of breeding females requires a license.

- There is still an exemption for sellers who derive less than $500 gross income from the sale of other animals (this does not include dogs, cats, and exotic or wild animals).

- The massive expansion of regulatory responsibilities into the private sector outlined in the proposed rule is not only impractical but unaffordable for an agency that is currently addressing serious budget challenges. For the past several years, APHIS? budget has been shrinking; since 2010 the budget has decreased by roughly 10 percent. The 2013 submitted budget calls for an additional decrease of 6.6%.

ACTION REQUIRED

OPPOSE adoption of this proposed rule. APHIS needs to hear most from those who are likely to be affected by the rule. Are you already licensed under local or state law and would federal regulation be a duplicate effort? Explain briefly how the rule will impose costs on your breeding program and activities and whether this will cause you to cease or limit your hobby or operations.

Suggested comments are available at the SAOVA website and can be customized.

Submit a separate comment for each point you wish to make in opposition to the rule. Comment period ends July 16, 2012.

Bridgette, Please forward to all the people in Savannah rescue on my behalf as well as Facebook.
?
I wanted to Thank You and all the volunteers of Savannah Rescue in my recent problem with Indie the F-2 Savannah at Charlotte/Mecklenburg Animal Control. As I indicated the owner I sold her to has been "Less than Responsive" in the last 2 years and I assumed her phone number had changed and her E-mail account was bouncing. Turns out that she is just that "less than Responsive" and that she simply did not choose to return calls until last night when she called to thank me for notifying animal control of her last known phone number and give me an update on Indie (She calls her Silver)
She in fact did receive my message and the message from Animal Control and her husband picked up Silver at the shelter almost immediately yesterday. Her 2 year old son had "let the kitty out"
Monday evening and she and her husband had in fact been searching for her. Silver had never escape before and was obviously terrified as they had a huge thunderstorm Monday night. After pick up from Animal Control Silver spent the day at the vet receiving sub Q fluids and antibiotics. Silver has an on going nasal discharge which flares up from time to time and is treated by her vet as needed so the URI that the shelter reported was simply a stuffed up nose from the chronic nasal discharge. She was taken to an Animal ER late in the afternoon yesterday by her owner for further evaluation. X-ray show no broken bones but the there maybe some slight trauma to a disc in her neck. She was give pain management drugs and sent home to return again in the AM if not significantly improved for more fluids and further evaluation by a vet Neurologist.? All and all it appears that Silver/Indie is in fact the beloved and valued family member I had hoped she would be and her owners are diligent in her care and well being.
Once again thank you all for coming forward to help in what could have been a terrible situation.? I hope this owner will be more responsive to me as her breeder in the future as she now understands that a responsible breeder loves and cares for all their kittens for all their lives and should be considered a valued resource not a stranger to be ignored..

The cat is sick and injured, but they won't treat as they have labeled
her "fractious and feral"... although any cat in pain and terrified
likely would behave that way. It is uncertain how bad the cat's
condition is.

If anyone is in or near Charlotte, NC could they please contact us at

condition. If the AC cannot contact the owner today they will release
the cat tomorrow in which case we'd want someone maybe to help transport
a little of the way towards the breeder.

Please let me know if you can help.

F5 Female "Venus" in Gloucester. MA

Can you open your home and heart to Venus?

Venus is approximately 3 years old. Venus has bounced in and out of homes for the last two years and is in need of a quiet, loving home. She has no bad habits and is in good health. She will need to be taken to the vet for an examination and to be spayed. Rescue will pay for these to be done.?Please note that under absolutely no circumstances will Venus be placed as an intact cat for breeding purposes.?Other particulars about Venus:

1. She is?not?good around children. Homes with kids over 12 or no children only.

2. She does not get along well with other cats. This may change after her spay, but may not.

3. Does well with dogs.
