Re: Preventing kelp from blocking the raw water intake

Re: S386 Emergency Tiller
Having used an emergency tiller in anger, on a Beneteau 50, half way to Hawaii (quadrant broke), we found that much of the crew fatigue came from keeping the emergency tiller centered over the Rudder

Re: S386 Emergency Tiller
On my boat the top of the "T" handle is open pipe so I assume intended to allow you to use a boat hook or pole inserted in the "T" to allow more leverage. Also mine fixes at a 90 degree angle to the

Re: Raymarine ST60+ Instruments for sale
Hello Bruce, I am interested in the Wind and Depth units as spares for those on my Sabre 386, like the older Raymarine gear, though getting on on years.? Do you have any of the masthead wind sensors?

Re: Preventing kelp from blocking the raw water intake
Orion's external raw water strainer was attached to the seacock with two bronze screws. ?Removal was simply a matter of getting the heads clean enough to accept a screwdriver. Dave

Re: Sabre 34-1 1983 Centerboard Issues
Technically, the centerboard generates lift (not lessens sideslip) upwind. On a reach you may find that it affects yawing as it is raised from the full down position, where it seems to act as a kind

Re: Sabre 34-1 1983 Centerboard Issues
Without constant lateral pressure on the centerboard, it does thump when the boat lurches. the advantage of the center board is less side slip from broad reach to beat. down wind it is mostly extra

I also removed the external strainer on Arcadia, after finding a large colony of barnacles inside it. Another change I made was to replace the square elbow on the inlet of the interior Groco strainer

I believe it was Jim Starky who pointed out that you'd rather have a clog at the groco strainer inside the boat where you can clear it than on an outside hull fitting where you'll have to dive to

Wow, never heard of anyone losing a shaft log. To me the critical part of the replacement is getting the tube aligned with the strut. If your work with the hole saw is accurate, it will be easier. In
