Technically, the centerboard generates lift (not lessens sideslip) upwind.? On a reach you may find that it affects yawing as it is raised from the full down position, where?it seems to act as a kind of pivot point.? When raised to just below the centerboard trunk, the center of lateral resistance?is moved up and aft, which seems to lessen the broaching force when sailing down waves.
