Re: Max prop coming out of reverse issue

Unless the yard forbids work below the waterline, grease the prop yourself. The hardest part of the job is not dropping the set screws or perhaps finding the set screws after you drop them. Takes about 10 minutes. Buy the kit from PYI.

Take a look at BoatWorks Today YouTube. Andy has lots of painting videos.

Also consider Alexseal, instead of Awlgrip products or Interlux products. Alexseal has an additive that makes roll and tipping very easy. Looks like it was sprayed on. Full disclosure, I have no interest in Alexseal and I have no direct experience with above the waterline hull paining.

Re: 362 Rudder Bearing Replacement

Roger -
?
I dropped my rudder in the fall, and can speak to a couple of your questions.
?
My lower rudder bearing was also a bit loose when placed into the tube in the hull, however when you use 3M 5200 and the two screws to set it in place, once that all cures it is rock solid. ?As far as alignment, as long as you mount the rudder back into place before the 5200 cures then everything should line up just fine, that is how it worked for me.
?
My old rudder bearing also had issues being tight where they drilled holes in the rudder post. ?I was able to file the burrs on the edges of the holes off and then everything worked fine. ?If yours are tight even where the shaft is true, that sounds like a judgement call about how tight it is and if it will bind when the rudder turns or not.
?
Good luck!

Re: 426 outhaul line replacement

I’m with Allison on this one. My S34mkII has far less main sail area but originally was near impossible to pull in the outhaul with wind over 15 kts. When we started racing it was critical so we changed to a 4:1 purchase in the boom and a track and ball bearing car system at the aft end of the boom. Huge difference so instead of beating the old sliding fitting with a winch handle to get it to move, one hand on the line back to the cockpit and it’s done.

Max prop coming out of reverse issue

开云体育

While looking for some other information on a PYI shaft seal, I found the instructions for feathering a Max Prop.

Reduce speed with engine in gear.
Stop engine.
Wait a little.
Shift to neutral.

Here’s the link to the FAQ page:

I also replaced and resealed my fixed ports recently. Painter’s tape and a flexible epoxy spreader are keys to getting a good bead. Avoid the temptation to overwork the silicone - I found one continuous sweep around the perimeter left the cleanest looking results.

BTW, I overbought the white Silpruf and have three unopened tubes (mfg date Dec 2023) available FREE to any Sabre board members for the cost of shipping. Private message me your info and we can work it out.

Re: 426 outhaul line replacement

I don’t recall all the details of the replacement I did last year. ? I’m not 100% certain if the purchase system on the rope component (that leads to the cockpit) used a double floating block or a single, but I think it was a single. ? Here’s an overview of:

I used StaSet, or something similar, for the line that runs from the forward boom attachment point, aft to a (?)single block with becket (the block that floats mid boom) and back to the cockpit. ? I replaced the wire, that runs from the block’s becket, aft and through the block or ring (attached to a pedant from the ring to the clew via the boom end sheave). and them back to an attachment point at the forward end of the boom, with a length of AmstelBlue. ?I replaced the block (or ring) at the aft end of the boom with a low friction ring. I reused the floating block.
?
The slippery Amstel Blue with low friction ring is a great improvement over the wire. ? I don’t feel the need for an additional purchase. ??
?
In hindsight it might have been better to use a low stretch double braid eg WarpSpeed for the line from the block back to the cockpit, but I think the amount of stretch is probably insignificant?
?
I don’t recall the size or lengths of line used but I know I based them on the original components. ? ?I put eye splices at both ends of the AmstelBlue. Getting the right length end to end is critical and required redoing the splices a couple of times to get it right.
