I don¡¯t recall all the details of the replacement I did last year. ? I¡¯m not 100% certain if the purchase system on the rope component (that leads to the cockpit) used a double floating block or a single, but I think it was a single. ? Here¡¯s an overview of:
I used StaSet, or something similar, for the line that runs from the forward boom attachment point, aft to a (?)single block with becket (the block that floats mid boom) and back to the cockpit. ? I replaced the wire, that runs from the block¡¯s becket, aft and through the block or ring (attached to a pedant from the ring to the clew via the boom end sheave). and them back to an attachment point at the forward end of the boom, with a length of AmstelBlue. ?I replaced the block (or ring) at the aft end of the boom with a low friction ring. I reused the floating block.
?
The slippery Amstel Blue with low friction ring is a great improvement over the wire. ? I don¡¯t feel the need for an additional purchase. ??
?
In hindsight it might have been better to use a low stretch double braid eg WarpSpeed for the line from the block back to the cockpit, but I think the amount of stretch is probably insignificant?
?
I don¡¯t recall the size or lengths of line used but I know I based them on the original components. ? ?I put eye splices at both ends of the AmstelBlue. Getting the right length end to end is critical and required redoing the splices a couple of times to get it right.
