I propose a change to the document 'SHARI Allstar Node Setup and Configuration Guide'.? on page 2 the required hardware list suggests a SD Card 16G or larger.? this should be changed to 4G required and larger is optional.? from the Allstar Handbook (found here?? and other places) on page 8...

SD Cards
The information below is from Arm Allstar by Doug Crompton.
Just a reminder though that the read/write performance of the SD cards in a Linux application like Asterisk Allstar is immaterial after boot. So using a faster card is not going to make your system run faster. It would allow faster creation of the initial image and possibly faster boots (measured in a few seconds) but in most cases it would not be practical economically to purchase a super fast SD card. The speed which a card writes is also heavily effected by the type of writer (usb2/3) and the SW used to write. So while the relative differences in these tests might be valid the absolute values of these tests could differ greatly based on the hardware and SW used to write. Tried and true my choice is still the SanDisk Ultra but I am sure there are other cards in it's class that could be used. Also as I mentioned on the web page unless you have a compelling reason it is NOT a good idea to expand the filesystem on these cards after installing the image. Doing so makes total image backup a time consuming process especially on 16GB and larger cards and does nothing to improve performance or longevity
-----------

furthermore,
the image from the current repository at hamvoip.org expands to less than 4G.? it does not auto expand on your SD Card leaving anything above 4G unused anyway.

All of Allstar is messed up right now. The nodes are connecting and if you have a secondary Hamvoip registration then node information os somewhat displaying. NNX nodes are not even listed are now. I am sure it will all get fixed when the status server is rebooted. This has happened before.

No supply issues as far as SHARI is concerned.? Both the Pi3 and the Pi4 supply 1.2 amps max on the USB ports.? SHARI only needs about 500 mA in TX mode.

Hi Darrell,

Are there supply issues with either the PI3 or PI4?

What are the advantages of the Pi4 over the Pi3?

Thanks,

Electrically, at the USB interface, the Pi3 and? the Pi4 are identical. The only difference is the location of the USB ports to accommodate the new location of the USB ports in the Pi4.? If you plug a SHARI Pi3X (U or V) into a Pi4, The SHARI case blocks access to the Ethernet jack.? The same situation occurs if you you plug a SHARI Pi4X into a Pi3.? If you do not need the ethernet connection (i.e. you connect to the internet using the Pi WiFI) then they are interchangeable.? Also, you can use short USB extension cables.? In fact, you only need one cable as one USB connection is used to operate SHARI with Allstar and the other is used to program the radio in SHARI.? Either will provide the necessary power to SHARI.? Looking at any SHARI from the top with the USB ports on your left and the antenna on your right, the USB port closest to you is for Allstar and the other is for programming.

The only difference between a PiXU and a PiXV is the RF chain - thus the SA818 radio module, the output low pass filter and the antenna are different.

I bought, and am very happy with, two pre-built nodes, one each for VHf and UHF, and they appear to be specifically for the Pi 3. I own a Pi 4. While both units work perfectly, did I buy the wrong ones, or is it only the configuration and location of the USB ports that differentiate the two units, if indeed there actually *are* two units--one for the 3 and one for the 4?

Re: blind shari user needs help

Neil, I did some poking around in allstar (HAMVOIP version) and found these two files. This is from a allstar node that has a working SHARI attached. Maybe you can compare to your files and see if the URI setup has one of these parameters set in a way that the USB does not work for the SHARI. If all else fails, make a new SDcard and start over. I build portable Allstar nodes every day to play with different options. I have it down to about 10 minutes from making the SDcard to a running node.
