开云体育Ok. I have the cyllindrical chokes that snap closed. anyway, I was asking where the best place on the cable is for them... near the wall-wart or near the device being powered.

开云体育I have a couple of these power supplies. They're nice, but still would recommend putting an bead at the power supply end. It was still noisy with my SHARI.

Hey Chris- and all other's
You know how some guys will tell you Collins, Motorola, Kenwood, Ten-Tec? is best..They and their followers are obnoxious about it?? Well, here's the "BEST" Raspberry PI micro USB Power Supply (also available RPI4 in C-usb)
It can also be found on Amazon.com and they offer packages of RPI3/4's -P/S- a nice case- Wall-Wart-and Heatsinks less $$$ than CANAKIT.-I just bought 2. Looks real good with my SHARI's... CU on the net- de Larry W8LM |
Re: Hum / buzz on signal

For the "hum and buzz" interference, the ferrite core should be located at the supply.? I recommend 2 to 3 turns of the wall-wart cable through the type 31 mix (or Laird 28) core.

Hi.
Quick question: When putting ferrite chokes on wall-wart type power supplies, should they be located nearest the supply, or nearest the device being powered, such as the PI+shari? Thanks Chris |
Re: SHARI Node not transmitting audio
Just so everyone has the final answer to my question. Steve (N8AR) spoke with me on the phone and clarified that the node was not transmitting RF or Audio. From that he recommended I check the solder joint at pin 5 on the radio module. Sure enough, the solder was just barely touching the wall of the castellated recess on the module at pin 5. Just moving the module from one side of the room to the other was apparently enough to highlight my poor soldering skills. I re-soldered the connection (and a couple of others that were a little sloppy) and the node is back to working great again.

Rebooted server, ran simple sub and reset freq, PL tones, rx and tx output levels. Nothing had changed in either the radio or the node settings. I tried setting up a different radio with correct frequency info. I can see the node keying and it receives audio and dtfm. It appears everything is working but no audio heard. |
Re: TX audio/power save mode?
Not that I'm a Shari expert, but that doesn't sound like a power-save feature. I wonder if it's a throwback to an old cordless phone feature I once knew that provided the ring through the same transducer as the call audio, and the first ring always faded in from near-silence, jut the way the Shari nodes do. The phone manual said this was an intentional ear-protecting feature such that if you just so happened to have the phone to your ear when it rang, you wouldn't be instantly rendered hearing-deprived by the ring tone. Just a thought.

TX audio/power save mode?
Hi:
I've noticed that, with the Shari's radio, if the node doesn't transmit for about five to ten seconds, the next transmission fades in and is kind of distorted for about half a second. My other Allstar nodes don't do this. One is using a Uri-X and a Motorola Radius SM50, and the other is a Baofeng 888 on a CM-119 FOB. RX doesn't have this problem, only TX from the node. Is there some sort of power save mode where the op amp is shutting down after a few seconds, or something? If so, can this be disabled? |
Re: SHARI Node not transmitting audio
Assuming you are using PL, are you sure your RX PL frequency on the radio you are listening to SHARI with has not changed?? Is this radio still in the simpex mode?? Also check the Transmit A level (Item 3 of the SimpleUSB-tune-menu application) to make sure it is where you set it (probably 400 to 500).

Re: Raspberry Zero
开云体育HamVoIP won't run on a Pi Zero, as it is a different instruction set. I suppose you could convince ASL to run on it, though I'm not sure how well it would work. Probably not very well, since the Pi Zero only has one core. On 6/1/2020 6:48 PM, Paul Byers wrote:Has anyone mated their SHARI to a Raspberry Zero? Any pitfalls? Suggestion? |
Re: Raspberry Zero
开云体育AllStar Link will not run smoothly on a Pi Zero W since that board is a single core one. AllStar require a multiple core processor. Pi 2/3/4 will do the trick. Alberto KP4AP 73'?

Thanks Darrell. I understand what the usb connections do. I only have the one connected to my Pi3B right now. Don't see much need to have them both connected. Not really going to change frequencies all that much.
The advantage would be to have a smaller package to fit possibly in one enclosure. Like you said, I am not even sure that allstar / hamvoip would run on it. |

SHARI, has two USB ports one, for daily communication and one for programming the radio. You would have to swap back-and-forth to do those two functions or use a hub. I don’t know even know if allstar will run on a pi zero. Personally I said no it vantage for using a pi zero. Re: Two Days In And Almost Ready To Sell It
For etc/resolv.conf, the 127.0.0.1 is localhost and checks itself. Try editing the resolve file like this (via ssh (putty/MobXterm whatever you like)? from command line enter:
sudo nano /etc/resolv.conf [Enter]? _> the file will open in Nano editor, now make the file look like this: nameserver 127.0.0.1 nameserver 8.8.8.8 nameserver 8.8.4.4 nameserver 1.1.1.1 nameserver 1.0.0.1 then [ctrl]+X -> Y [Enter] -- Control+x exits, but will then ask if you want to save - Y says yes, and it presents the filename to save, just press enter the 127 remains, the next two are Googles public nameservers and the last two are cloudflare. There is a possibility that after a reboot the file gets reverted (changes lost - Don't know why but it has happened to me) so, just do the steps above again but this time after you save and return to the command prompt issue this last command (OR do it as you do the editing the first time to prevent loss in the first place): sudo chattr +i /etc/resolv.conf [Enter] -- What this command does is make the file "Immuteable" Uneditable, so it cannot be changed or overwritten -- to make it editable again, issue the same command BUT with -i instead. I am no Linux guru either, but have been in linux for a few years due to my IncrediblePBX (formerly PBX in a Flash) that runs in Linux so have picked up a few things. I hope this helps.? 73 de W1KMC |
Re: SHARI Disappeared off WiFi network
UPDATE:? I have identified to problems, the first is a voltage drop that will be causing some problems with the SHARI but more importantly when I go to configure the WiFi it scans other SSIDs around but does not find mine for some reason.?
So I will next week when I get my next pension I will order a new power supply and a wire to wire wireless adapter to bypass the WiFi. -- 73 de Simon, VK3XEM. |
